When you show up at a big party, what's the first thing that you do? Turns out, it's the same thing that acid and base molecules do when they show up at a buffer. ;-) Scan the crowd, and find the best molecule to interact with. AP Chemistry Unit 8.3 with Buffer Calculations.
What are buffers, and how do we calculate the pH of a buffer? The first time you see these questions thrown at you, the outlook can seem bleak. However, in this video we try to get past the chatter and get to the real understanding of buffers.
Buffers are solutions that contain a weak acid and it's conjugate base, so it is able to withstand the punch of any extra acid or base added to it, with a minimal amount of change in pH.
We also do some calculations that you are likely to encounter in your #chemistrytravels.
