I don’t - too bashful for that! Thanks for asking!!!

Hi Sailing Tips Guy Sorry I forgot your first name. Have you done a clip discussing the dagger board on your trimaran? I would be interested in what foil sections are used and if you have used a template to see if it is symmetric. Also are there Corsair 27’s experimenting with different dagger boards? Thanks for the great videos. Cheers Glenn

My name is Garry. No haven't done a clip yet on the dagger board for my F-82R trimaran but I believe it's a NACA 0012 section, which is pretty common for symmetric sailing foils (e.g. rudders) and incidentally also helicopter blades! Have you checked out Competition Composites (formerly Phil's Foils) for some of their shapes? cci.one/site/marine/foils-a-z/corsair-and-farrier/ They will also sell CNC cores cut to shape if you want to finish them yourself. Our rudder contains a core from them.

I arrived in the bay area in 1971. a few years later, I was at a party and a women showed me a picture of a foiling trimaran called the "Willie-Wa" on full foils. Do you know anything about this vessel?

No I don't know anything about that vessel - I wonder if any other viewers do? If so please comment below!

@@SailingTipsCa Was it the one designed by Adrian Thomson? I certainly remember the name. But perhaps I am confusing it with a different boat.

Great vlog. I think the real problem with all ocean going foiling sailboats is that the risk of the foils hitting something is increasingly high. If there was a rule that only allowed one fin and one rudder (protected by the fin) they would be less susceptible to damage and retirement. Of course, elimination of foils is not going to happen-the need/greed for speed is just too powerful-but maybe there should be a class for non-foiling multihulls. Now that I come to think about it, are foils allowed on the 50ft class?

There are a ton of non foiling offshore classes. More than there are foiling classes. Most fleets that add foils split into foiling and not foiling fleets as well

Yes hitting things is a very real risk! The foiling boats are generally required to be able to sail without them in the event that they break, although they generally won’t be competitive without foils, unless you’re Alex Thomson in the 2016 Vendee Globe. Here are the class rules for the Ocean 50 - makes me wish I had paid more attention in French class!!! oceanfifty.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/OCEAN-FITY-REGLES-DE-CLASSE-2022-DEF.pdf

@@rydenkaye9735 You are right, of course. Not sure why I overlooked them. And actually I am fascinated by the foiling boats. I just wish the wouldn’t break down so often.

There are provisions for foils in the Ocean 50 class rules, but that's about as far as I've gotten so far!
