OMG! Louise that was my question (Raje is my 'like to be known as' name!) .. I couldn't believe you were reading what I'd said and speaking directly to me - to all of us like me - it made me cry! Such wisdom - and so affirming - to trust what we can do when we 'allow' it to happen through us. Thank you so much .

So inspiring, thank you for bringing this up, because most of the time you only know afterwards that the process was actually the exciting part. I know it from yoga when I first felt my body in a completely new way, or from philosophy when I first made a realization that completely changed my thinking. When you cross a level like that, it's difficult to remember the state you were in before. And therefore I should enjoy the process now in a reflected and attentive way. Nice! thank you

I'm very exciting about beginning our course! Thank you for these lovely words. I had not imagined the envy of anyone towards me not knowing what I'm doing! That's a lovely thought for us all, I hope. Maybe you'll say more about this eventually, but the one challenge in your words that I am not sure what to do with is this one: "this course is all about you!" I hope that while there will be much about me in one sense, it will be that deeper self that is not self-centered. I love already the introductions of people from all over the world on the Facebook page where I am feeling a beautiful community forming. I do want to play in a way that brings me more truly to me, but that me is not just ego, but a me that finds deepest meaning in love with others also. Such an amazing and wonderful gift you have given us already, and we haven't even started the journey together in the course!

Yes as artists we want to connect with others - so our art really is a gift. But in order to give that gift, we have to spend time with ourselves because being our own true self is the greatest thing we can do for other people

Thank you so much Louise for having this discussion. I’m having a very hard time understanding the abstract process. I am a past decorative arts painter. Everything was always figured out for me...a pattern to trace...what colors to use an how to do it. I did learn a lot a out mixing.. blending and a lot more. But not allowing myself be free in what I was doing. Didn’t learn much about composition. Now for the past year I’m painting outside the lines..trying to figure it all out by myself....some classes and KZitem. So most everything you just said makes so much sense to me...and has taken the pressure out of the process of doing an abstract. Figuring it out as you go with a few guide lines. I am keeping this video and for awhile I’m going to watch and listen to to it once a week. thank you for giving me permission in many aspects. I am so looking forward to June 3! Thank you.... I am already learning from you Louise, just in these build up videos. You have helped me recognise that there is something that delights me in art and that is what I need to experience. I don’t have to paint portraits or landscapes or beautiful still life to be considered an artist. I need to know what makes me drool and follow that path. As you said in this video, I might be doing something different to everyone else in the world but if it floats my boat then it is right for me. I am excited about what else this course is going to bring alive to me.

Louise, I totally understand your comments and it all makes sense - but - my problem is guilt. I'm 67 and STILL haven't found my style as this is because, as a child and young adult, I was taught that I was a practical person and must always work hard within any job I want to do. Nothing wrong with this of course but along this path I was also taught that if you are having fun, enjoying anything other than your job then it was a hobby and probably only for weekends! So now still today, while creating I feel I should be tidying the house or doing other "practical" things. I love creating and I get lost in it and it's like therapy and meditation for me. But I can't find my true style because I stop too soon to explore, or don't start, because I can never get away from the guilt. Does this make sense? 😕

Very well articulated! Thanks. I spent years thinking I should know what I was doing or have an idea before I started. So freeing to just jump in and explore and let the ideas develop. Also what I think you implied is that there are many kinds of ideas: some ideas are about ways to explore different types and combinations of media not necessarily ideas about concept or content.

So looking forward to breaking out of being anal and detail oriented in painting. I was always successful in technical drawing and graphic design - this is where I hope to explore the emotion expression. As you explained in other videos, I am very sensitive and emotional and tend to bottle it up with full awareness. I also tend to give up partway through a painting because I don’t like the work. I love the video you did where you said you were scared and then covered a painting over with black and I think I even heard you “pissed off” and slammed your brush to paint over a particularly annoying area! Yay I’m not the only one!

Hi Louise, it seems like what you’re saying is applicable to most fine art. Presently I’m creating collage with stitch, 3D mixed media stitch, and 3D tissue paper sculpture with mixed media. I’m signed up for the taster course and eager to see if my areas of interest are enhanced by your course. (I painted in the past.) Are there any multi-mixed media artists that have taken last year's course doing it again this year? Thank you for all you do.
