Its been complicated, especially when I have to use a cane or a wheelchair on bad days only and most of the time I can move around without help, with a different gait, not like when I was healthy, I think its one of the most complicated things to explain

I've only recently got diagnosis but I've been suffering flair ups for years and am quite fused now (my brother got diagnosed years ago but I never pushed it after initial scans well over 20 years ago in my late 20's didn't show anything). For a long time I was told you didn't have it if there weren't high inflammatory markers.. finally saw a physio this year who said she was sorting an urgent referral and it has moved along quickly to diagnosis since then. For me finally being able to confirm there is a cause for these flair ups and it has never just been in my head and that changes have been occurring all along is a huge help for me.

@@NASSCentral Thank you so much. I have signed up and am finding these resourced and videos brilliant thank you. I've also sent them to my brother who's been struggling for years too. I've also signed up for the the May walk, keeping walking with my dog is a massive part of what has kept me going this long. That and lots of stretching. I still do plenty of squats, these seem comfortable enough.. is that a safe one to do with AS if you don't mind me asking? (i dropped a lot of other stuff that became too painful like sit-ups and press-ups some time ago).

Hi, it's always worth asking your rheumatologist if they can refer you to a rheumatology physio. They can give you personalised advice on what exercise is safe and helpful for you to do. We do have this video on weight lifting, which may be interesting: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2GmwrKGakn6Ddag ~Zoë

@@NASSCentral thank you. I will do this when I next speak to the nurse. The physio who referred me works with them and my GP (luckily for me) but for this it'd need to go via them so I will ask thank you.

My first flare in five months and having started a new job in that time, this is really helpful advice for going in to work tomorrow. I’m sure there’ll be a few awkward questions from colleagues 😏

Hi, we recommend speaking to your rheumatologist about whether you should continue the medication. Some medications need to be taken regularly to continue the benefit, but it depends on your personal situation. If you'd like to chat to someone, do give our helpline a call on 020 8741 1515 (open 10.00-16.00, Mon-Fri) ~Zoë
