Wow so calculators use binary? Wow, I never knew that. It's actually pretty much like a ultra-simple computer, it has input, output, memory and an arithmetic logic unit (like a cpu), but without all the versatile features of a computer cpu. Cool

It calculates any operation with boolean algebra which can be easily integrated in circuits that handle binary numbers, I would elaborate but it would take 3 hours to explain everything, this stuff is a substantial part of what is taught at comp-sci

@@xXArmageddon1382Xx [ I am just trying to help understand how these machines can even Make sense of those 0&1's] 'Logic Gates'. To understand this it is better to see 0 as low voltage and 1 as high voltage, And with these 0&1 we can create a binary number system for our task. With these it is easier to see 'outputs', as machine can detect 0&1 simply as presence or absence of current. AND logic gate detects if two inputs are same or not. (Imagine 2 switches in series, circuit gets completed only after turning both switch on) NOT - turns 0 input TO 1 output and vice versa ( Imagine 2 wires connected to battery in parallel, one normal and other one with switch, and switch on, off changes path of current. And we are detecting change in the parallel normal wire) NAND- AND followed by NOT OR- NOT on two seperate input bits, whose input goes into NAND (If you get the gist of it, you can see how we can make more and more of these, but all these are just tools to do operations) To add 2 bits in binary we actually need 3 bits because as we have only 0&1, so 1+1=0 with a 1 carry over. The third bit is this carry bit. Now our logic gates come handy, As you can see we can get 'carry bit' just by AND. As ((0,1),(1,0),(0,0) input give 0, and only (1,1) input give 1 output. By using these simple logic and circuitory we can make these machine do many such functions. I am sad my ability to explain is inhibited by comment section and pen paper with example would have been better.

I know in the programming of calculators the way they change the number say if you press 5 and 4 it doesn't increase it by 4 because then it would end up with 9 we want 54. How do they do it well. Check this calculation out 5x10+4=54. Basically you multiply the number you have by 10 then add the number you want to put on.

Hey guys, writing an in depth assignment on calculators and was wondring if anyone knows how accurate this information is? Especially when it comes to RAM storing the addition command, instead of using registers. And also if it uses x and y registers to store temporary numbers, instead of RAM Thanks alot:3

I'll use the equation 1 + 3 as a sample. There are several ways a calculator can do this and it all depends on the arithmetic engine it uses in ROM. For example, 1 is pushed to the stack, then 3 is pushed to the stack, then a call to an addition function is performed. The result is pulled from the stack and displayed. I recommend looking at videos regarding BINARY NUMBERS, TWO'S COMPLIMENT, FLOATING POINT
