kimi boo these are all English words yet plantain is not an English food therefore the pronunciation will most likely change. For example though we pronounce foods like jam with a j sound , the Spanish pronounce jalapeños with an h sound , therefore everyone else pronounces it as a h sound.

Yes. Finally. Too too many get this wrong and then try to defend with ignorance. It's as in 'tin. Noun like mountain, not like the verb sustain. Mostly ignorance that gets repeated. All, it's ok to change to what is right.

Gwarn yardie Jack. Pronouncing Plantin it the correct way. Let me break it down for those in denial. Plantain is a noun. Nouns ending in "ain" pronounce the "ain" as "in" and plantain makes sense in the context in which those words are used. "A mountain", "the captain", "a chaplain", "the fountain", a/the PLANTAIN . Verbs pronounce the "ain" as "ayne". "I maintain", "they sustain" "we refrain". I/We/They plantain does NOT make sense. I got enough love for my Africans out there but please just take your L on this one. Even if you can't, let's all agree pronunciation does not change is beautiful taste.
