Have you ever wondered how milk turns into cheese? Now you can find out by watching this video and making your own cheese at home!
Ingredients:
• 1 L (4 cups) of Full Cream Milk (*also known as whole milk)
• 250 mL (1 cup) of buttermilk
• 125 mL (½ cup) of cream
• ¼ teaspoon of kosher salt
Method:
• Add the milk, buttermilk, cream, and kosher salt to a saucepan and give it all a good stir
• Place the saucepan on the stove, and set the stove to medium heat
• Hold a thermometer in the saucepan, and stir the milk as it heats up
• Once the milk reaches 40 °C, stop stirring and continue heating the milk until it reaches 90 °C - checking the temperature every minute
• Once the milk reaches 90 °C, turn off the heat and allow it to stand for 1 hour
• After an hour, scoop the cheese out of the saucepan and into a sieve over a large bowl
• Pour any remaining cheese and liquid into the sieve and let it sit for 20 minutes
• Store the cheese (the contents of the sieve) in a clean airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days!
