Nope, high paid players limited the cap. Even if Magic wanted to join forces with Bird, he could not do it. Nowadays the league has the money and a soft cap to move around stars in a more flexible way. It's unfair to point out 80's and 90's players as they are true competitors, how can we know? If Drexler had the same freedom of today's player, he would join Hakeem right after the end of his rookie contract? It's impossible to tell. When Magic came out and said he would never join Bird, it was the Captain Obvious striking again. Jordan the same thing, why he would join forces with another star if he already have a star playing with him? The Bulls was the only team in the 90's who had 2 prime and legit stars playing together for the entire decade, Jordan already had a obvious advantage.

@RRRRRRRRR33
7 жыл бұрын
Shaq and Penny only played 3 seasons together, Penny only had a case to be considered a proper star in the last 2 seasons, still not elite. Stockton is the living proof that Stats means nothing, he was never elite PG who could affect the game with star power like Thomas and Magic for example. The own man admits that, he was very consistent and impervious to injure, but not a proper star. Malone was a true elite, but not Stockton. Pippen on the other hand, compared to these 2 (and Kemp, you forget this other classic missconception), Pippen was a elite player for real. To put in retrospect, Pippen is a better player than Drexler. His playmaking ability, especially on defense, was far superior compared to other wing players of his time. He and Jordan are the best perimeter players of the 90's, good luck trying to stop that. To use modern players as examples to elucidate this more easily: It's basically absolute prime Kobe and prime Kawhi playing together for 10+ seasons. Jordan obviously had a huge advantage, no other team in his era had 2 elites at the same time.

Not even top 10. To put in perspective, Tim Duncan has a better legacy than James. Now consider KAJ, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Russell, Hakeem, etc.. It's disrespectful to skip all those historical players just because casuals have this fetish that every perimeter player should be compared with Jordan. The same exact thing happened with Kobe on his prime, people comparing him with Jordan directly and forgetting all the other greats. You should respect the game, child.

Jordan has 13 playoffs appearances. LeBron has 12. Jordan has 6 Finals appearances. LeBron has 8. Jordan has been eliminated before the Finals 7 times. LeBron has 4. Whilst Jordan's 6-0 record is untouchable, you can't deny that LeBron is atleast on Jordan's level. 8 Finals appearances in 12 playoffs is insane. If you're so in love with calling out LeBron for his 5 Finals losses, why aren't you calling out Jordan on his 7 losses before the Finals?
@kevinflowers463

He does get called out on it all the time about how he got eliminated by the bad boys and Celtics 5 years in a row. You know what I haven't heard consistently from MJ fans..."well MJ had no help so we shouldn't hold it against him". "MJ averaged 44ppg 6&6 against the Celtics so its not his fault. It was his teammates fault" "MJ was able to take the bad boys to game 6/7 so he should get credit for taking a couple games from a great team"..That is literally what we hear every year the moment LeBron loses or sometimes we even hear it during a series......and why are you arguing just finals appearances to say "you cant deny LeBron is on MJ level"....in 13 appearances MJ WON 6 titles...Lebron 3 for 12
@RRRRRRRRR33
7 жыл бұрын
Because Jordan was never the favorite to win, a very young Jordan playing alone against Bird's Celtics and the bad boys? Of course he didn't had a shot. But LeBron had the only team in the league with 3 prime stars, still, he was humiliated agains Dirk. A past prime Spurs inflicted the greatest beatdown in NBA finals history against his team, 14 pts differential. Jordan was always the favorite in the finals, his team was the only one in the league who had 2 prime elites playing together. And he played accordingly, his level of play raised dramatically and the Bulls dominated the west. James is the complete opposite, he had the stronger team and the west humiliated him badly. Even a 23 years old Durant was able to overplay James on his prime back in 2012 finals. That's how inferior he is as a competitor, you can't simply reach the finals and then disappear. Stat padding is something obvious considering his talent and the talent around him, still, even Iggy overplayed James defensively, lol Jordan would never allow the opposite SG to have a better series than him, as competitiveness goes, this is unnaceptable.
@85pearlboy

lets start with jordan, bulls were expected to lose against the bucks in jordan first trip to the playoffs, against the celtics (maybe the greatest celtics ever), against the bad boys (greatests pistons of all time), and finally agaisnt magic orlando (rusty jordan). so, they were expected to lose 7 times, which they did. what about lebron. cavaliers were expected to lose vs the pistons in lebrons first trip vs the pistons, expected to lose vs the powerful spurs, not expected to lose vs magic in 2009 and celtics in 2010. the heat were not expected to lose vs the dallas mavericks in 2011 (worst or best upset ever in my opinion). not supposed to lose that badly vs the san antonio spurs in 2014, expected to lose vs golden state warriors 2015 and 2017. so. lebron james and his teams were expected to lose in 4 or 5, they lost 8 times, get my point?

Bro the cavs added korver and d will, the Warriors added the 2nd or 3rd best player on the planet. Lebron was 1 assist away from averaging a 32 point triple double while shooting over 50%. He can't do it by himself. Kyrie was taking bad shots all night, love was MIA, the bench might as well stayed in Cleveland, and the team he is going against is a dynastic team falling short only to Jordan's bulls, and I still think that series would go to 7. Lebron deserved some blame for sure. But to say that it's his fault they lost is ignorant. He was the best player on the floor except game 1. Switch Lebron and KD and see what happens

Only loss that can be credited to him was Dallas which was truly one of the biggest choke jobs ever, thats on him. These may sound like excuses but if you are objective and fair these are facts.. Jordan had Pippen, Magic had Kareem, Shaq and Kobe had each other for the majority of theirs, who has LeBron had who has consistently had his back and could be relied on in the finals? Other than Dallas he has always been the best player in any given series and been let down by coaching and team mates, then he also gets criticised as if he is the coach and GM, this is media hyperbole and is not reality, the fact he is scrutinised on these levels to the extent he is is just unprecedented and honestly disgraceful a lot of the time, I feel sorry for him.

LeBron "shifted the world" when he went to team up with Wade and Bosh in Miami and was unfair at the time. Stop crying. LeBron=KD Irving=Steph Love=Klay Tristen=Draymond The difference is that the Warriors show up most of the time while the Cavs only show up against the inferior Eastern Conference teams.

Lebron James the GM made the right moves, the players didn't play. On paper the cavs are good but when Deron Williams hits ZERO FIELD GOALS, Kevin love shits the bed, Korver misses a CRUCIAL shot, that's not his fault. How is that on him?

zingGodin thats still on him. Thats his choices. He chose players who will mostly wait for him to make plays. He took players who are beyond their prime mostly on the slide. He though he can just distribute the balls and they can catch and shoot. They are specialists. like Thompson can be for rebounds and offensive plays later. GSW players are versatile. They can do a little of everything.

Win Mer no, it can't. the 1st year Heat weren't as good as this Warriors team. Heat had more talent than the Mavs, but they were still figuring shit out. LeBron and company played poorly, and the Mavs were underdogs, but the skill differential was not close to how big it is now. especially when the Cavs bench plays like absolute shit.

Win Mer It does matter though lol. Youre telling me that the 07 cavs whose second best player was mo williams I think had any chance to beat the spurs? And who a team faces is one of the most important things. If Lebron beat a sorry finals team last year in the finals people wouldnt brag about it so much but its the fact that the warriors were 73-9 and the cavs came back from 3-1 that mattered.

Is it really that hard to understand that Lebron and the Cavs largely made good moves given the constraints of the situation, but that the Warriors were simply too good? Sometimes in a fight you can train hard and do everything technically correct...but simply have nowhere to go...that was this 2017 Cavs vs. Warriors dynamic in a nutshell.

Kellerman. Do your research. Warriors were going after KD after they BEAT LeBron in 2015 Finals. Don't tell me KD chose to go to Warriors because of LeBron (if anything, it's more like if you can't beat em, join em). Don't tell me Warriors got KD because of LeBron. They were going after him as soon as they realized they had the cap space to get him because, um, what fucking team that has a chance to get KD wouldn't try to get KD? Get a clue.

Lets be real. The warriors elected to add Durant to be better. Let's be clear. They did not NEED Durant to beat the cavs because they were very capable of doing it last year. Draymond got suspended, Curry was not 100% and Iggy and Bogut were injured. So last year they were at a disadvantage and were still up 3 - 1. Any team that can be up 3 - 1 also has the ability to win. So the narrative that Lebron is so great that they had to go get KD to beat him is stupid. They increased their chances with KD, but its not like they had no chance.

it didn't...as time passes people will see it as another loss. Why does wilt not have have goat status considering the numbers he threw up? I am sure his finals record factors in. Why aren't jerry west or Baylor higher up on peoples all time list ranking? You never hear west as a top 5 player, I really don't even hear him as a top 10 player. He put up great numbers but went 1-8 in the finals. You don't think if he was 6-3 or even 5-4 that his legacy would be a lot higher then it is now?...you bring up triple doubles, Big O pretty much averaged a triple double for the first 5 years of his career. Why isn't his legacy as great as it should be....rings matter whether people want to admit it or not. LeBron's legacy took a hit last night. Its not major but he made it a lot harder for himself to come out look like the goat

Last year the warriors had both iggy and curry hobbled, bogut went down, AND dray got suspended, yet the series still went down to the last minute of game 7. So anyone trying to claim they weren't already WAY better than the cav's is calling you stupid. If you need the league to bail you out with a suspension and it still takes you till the last minute of a game 7 against a team with 3 injured players, then you clearly weren't as good as them... Now lebron's team has been owned in the finals for 4 years in a row even though he always has the most expensive roster in the league. How can the media actually expect us to believe he's one of top 5 players ever? First he gets wade and bosh, then he gets irving and love, yet he still keeps coming up short with some of the most loaded rosters in league history? He couldn't even win a second game against the spurs in '14, clearly outclassed by a KDless warriors in '15 and '16, and now that they have KD he couldn't even win a second game against them!

Nobody is blaming Ty Lue for some reason. Instead of configuring a lineup where he stops trying to force Deron to make shots, he should have played Derrick Williams to help on KD. He got no god damn minutes and therefore zero experience. His athleticism is exactly what they needed, not a short injury riddled point guard out there missing every shot. Also, Kevin Love.... come on brother. That was embarrassing.
