To everyone asking about harmful dosage it works like any other drug. You start off with a small dose to build up your tolerance. You don’t immediately start with 2000mg. I recommend taking 250 mg to start off with for a couple days and then bump it up to 500 mg ONLY if you feel your body is ready. Remember everybody is different.

I started at a 1000mg. I was fine with the flush but my legs swell and if I take it a day after or consecutively for 2 days or a day after I still get that swelling. I'll restart next month and start with 100mg and increase it from there after a few months to get my body used to it.

@@hannaishak7206 Uric Acid not bad. I guess it was because I jumped the gun by taking 1000mg before saturating from a low dose or it can also be due to the brand of Nicotinic Acid I used which was Piping Rock. I'm up to 600mg now Nature's Way brand twice a day (Morning/Evening) working my way to 1000mg. I suppose my body is adjusting better to it since asides from the expected flush that clears up I've no other side effects. I take this with Bilberry (eyes) and Vitamin C for the Arteries along with my 2 Tbs of Sea Moss in the morning since your vasodilating your arteries no better time to infuse it with other nutrients.

I bought some Niacin from GNC in the last year, to help with blood pressure, (as it is a vasodilator), I bought the 500mg tablets, did not know about the flushing part, took me a couple days to figure out what I was taking (was also taking a prebiotic, may have been past expire date, so thought that was what was making me flush and my skin to tingle, mine did not actually itch, just tingled a bit) both the flush and tingling subsided after about 20 mins or so. I was not sure on how much to take daily, found some evidence to not take too much, so I quartered the tablets and take 1/4 every day. Did not know about taking at night before bed, to help with the flushing (not noticing as much at night), so I found this video informative. I was worried about taking too much and it causing damage to my liver or kidneys... so am opting for a lower dosage. I also found that taking with applesauce can help to reduce/negate the flushing/tingly itchy skin.

The first time I took niacin I did not know you were meant to flush so I started panicking, then started googling it to find out it is a normal reaction and harmless. Ever since I really actually value the feeling of the flush, when the peak of it ends I start becoming deeply relaxed and free of anxiety and just overall tiredness, it makes me very calm and energetic. I'm taking 500mg every day now in the evening and it also helps me with insomnia from past benzodiazepine use. It's almost like my brain and chest are taking a really deep breath.

BEFORE TAKING SLOW RELEASE OR NO FLUSH OPTIONS INSTEAD OF REGULAR NIACIN DO YOUR RESEARCH ABOUT THE DOWNSIDE . Regular niacin will not cause flushing if you slowly build up your dose over days or weeks ---- FLUSHING DOES NOT HARM YOU --- ITS JUST UNCOMFORTABLE FOR A SHORT PERIOD --- YOU FEEL HOT AND ITCHY FOR 15-30-60 MIN OR SO. it depends how sensitive you are to it so start with the low dose maybe 50mg/day and build up.

A few tips, the flush lasts only about 15 mins and reduces a great deal in a short time, the Niaspan is a disgusting rip off of what is basically niacin in a slow release form sold with the word play "extended release" it should never have been allowed a patent. Slo-Niacin is just as effective for a fraction of the price. these slow release forms of niacin have stronger effect and can be a strain on the liver, so try the regular niacin first.

It messes with lipidnoegenesis, gluconeogenesis and perhaps glucose sensitivity. I also don't know how circadian rythms play into this, all the less given that Niacin to NAD might take up to 10 hours - If I remember correctly - don't take my word for it. Some of the NAD will come from recylced niacinamide and I don't know at which rate and how much of it. Last week I started taking non flushing Nature’s Bounty brand but unlike video, it has 400 mg of niacin with inositol hexanicotinate for flushing. I’ve thus far had no flushing. Was taking it at night and found interrupted sleep and mild stomach issues. Started taking in morning and wow super energy. Noticeable lowering of BP too.

Niacin is a vitamin you must start slowly and gradually work your way up to your desired dose. The first time I took it it startled me because I wasnt expecting the side effects. The flushing doesn't last long and as you increase your dose the flushing can eventually go away completely. I have found all the "Take with X and you wont flush" to be bogus. The only thing that worked for me was dosage saturation. I am currently on 4grams and I no longer flush at all. I had debilitating arthritis and am mostly pain free now. I also noticed an increase in cognitive function. 3 years now and no down side except peeing a lot. Stay hydrated.

I enjoy that niacin "flush" when I hit the hay. It feels cool & refreshing ... as if I'd just completed a steam bath (even when that's far from the case). People are always startled, scared and misjudge it when they don't know to expect the flush. When they DO know ahead of time, however, they can enjoy its uplifting effects ... presented at the RIGHT time & environment . Best to take it just before you go to sleep. It's so comfortable while you just lay there motionless, you won't feel like moving. Even feels like it reboots the mind ... feeling more rested afterward ... both physically & mentally. (Just be prepared for its slightly extra cooling effect ... with an adequate sheet or light blanket.) :)

If B3 blocks the decomposition of adipose tissue how can someone lose weight (fat) while taking B3?
@Littleprinceleon

Niacin is transforned into NAD which is part of the basic cellular metabolism... If there is enough NAD in the cells perhaps they burn more calories... Although they should also work more efficiently (meaning less waste, so less energy needed... so maybe the excess is stored as fat 🤔😉): I would say that under 50 one should NOT normally need extra B3 uptake. Perhaps it helps with muscle building with regular exercise. If you start to search after how complicated are the networks affected by most of the supplements, you'll realise that one can only rely on good quality clinical studies: even those produce many times more or less contradictory results. But those are at least explained after some more investigation, while most of the problematic issues found via basic or epidemiologic research have no satisfactory answers even after three decades and hundreds of studies

Awesome content! Great useful information. I love the way you simplified the science and understanding of how to use Niacin, Vit B3 and how it works. Do you have any more video's on the Vitamin supplement topics? I am preparing to teaching nursing students Fundamentals and nutrition and you were right. We basically tell them B, metabolism and nerves. But you get to the science on how this works simplified to understand why. Love the presentation and I will guide students to this video in case they want info to the point and clearly presented. I will look to your other pharmacology videos when I get to those topics. Thank you.

My entire upper body got very itchy while my entire body swelled a bit & my every single hair felt like a spike in my body. I felt like a hedgehog. My heartbeat quickened as my blood pressure & temperature rose. Woke up this morning feeling refreshed. Not sure why my body reacted so strongly but Im guessing its because Im riddled with spike protiens from touching the vaxed public at work which is inflaming my joints terribly after each shift.

Be careful when taking Niacin. I took regular flush 500mg of Niacin and within 30 mins, the flush effects were crazy, my heart rate went to 120 and I felt dizzy and blacked out for 5 mins. Luckily, I did not hurt myself. Effects were gone in an hour but it was a torture. So start with a small dose to see how your body tolerates it.

@Littleprinceleon

Hexagonite? Surely? Non-flush version has six (=hexa) niacin molecules chemically bonded to one inositol molecule... The nicotinic acid (= niacin) is slowly and not very efficiently stripped off of the inositol.

You should inform people (since you state it several times) that LDL is not bad because it is the same as HDL just with higher concentration of fatty acids (same protein structure) just the phenotype of LDL is something to watch. Differentiate the LDL into it's 7 components and see if you have high glycated end products. Maybe that is beyond this video but people should not be afraid of LDL. You cannot live without it.

Over the past few years, my health condition has become more and more complicated. From digestive problems, high blood pressure, complete exhaustion, inexplicable pain and more. I went for various examinations, but nothing was found. I had a dream about a month ago. I was in the clinic and explained to the doctor that I drink a lot of water. She replied that I should take niacin. I admit that I didn't know what it was until then. I've been taking 500g a day for three weeks now and my condition has really improved a lot.
