Don't worry guys I know an engineer friend who was unable to explain me this. As I was very intrigued with the working of ACs I started the journey to find the principle behind this. At first I couldn't understand this video 2 years ago but now after a lot pf reading and doubt clearing I come back to this video. Now this feels like such a simple process. Thanks to all the great scientists who worked on the principles of thermodynamics, pressure, temperature, and vapour relationship. Grateful to Charles, Boyles, Pascals, Joules, Thomson and many more great scientists who worked hard so we can live a great life

An air conditioner works based on four main processes: compression, condensation, expansion, and evaporation. At first, the refrigerant is compressed in the compressor, increasing its pressure and temperature. It then flows through the condenser, where it releases its heat to the outside air and transforms from a high-P, high-T gas into a high-P, low-T liquid. Following this, the liquid refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, where it expands and cools RAPIDLY due to the pressure drop, turning into a cold mixture of liquid and gas at a much lower temperature. (expansion is fun, as here the liquid turns partially into gas without raising temp) This cold mixture then moves to the evaporator coils, where it absorbs heat from the indoor air. As the refrigerant absorbs heat, it evaporates into a low-pressure gas, which is then cycled back to the compressor to repeat the process. Hope I could simplify the explanation

@@sjinfinity so the compressor only work to build up pressure so it can go through valve for instant cooling. but due to high pressure from compressor it also heat up too much and we dont want that so it go through condenser to loose some heat and now this can ready to go through valve
@sjinfinity

@@GauravSingh-qf8lh right about the losing heat part, but condenser plays an important role also in converting the refrigerant from gas to liquid form which is necessary for the the next expansion process

I wanna thank you for this spotless explanation. I'm a teacher and what SO MANY OTHER VIDEOS DO that gets me extremely frustrated is they don't go into ENOUGH detail - but this video, however, provides ADEQUATE detail. Imagine asking someone 'why?', or, 'how?', and then having them just stay silent. That's what the other videos do. Not this one. This video FINALLY helped me actually GRASP the concept instead of leaving depth to be desired. 10/10 explanation, and you've earned a loyal subscriber! Cheers! 🎉

I've read a science article where they explained how they found a new "loophole" in quantum mechanics which could potentially change the air conditioners dramatically, where you could lower the temperature the similar way as you can rise it. You know, like in the hair dryer, it is super easy to make it hot but you cannot create similar blower which could make the air go cold, yet with that new discovery it could be possible in the future. So basically you would not need to take a hot air from the room and transport it outside, you could simply lower the temperature of the device itself just like you make it go hotter.
@Shy_guy9795
2 жыл бұрын
Uhm, modern ac’s do not transport air anywhere outside the room
@nikokapanen82
2 жыл бұрын
@@Shy_guy9795 Well, i meant the temperature. Modern AC's needs two devices and tubes between them. One device is outside and another inside to transport the heat from inside to outside but in that science article, it was said that according to some quantum mechanics properties, you could run temperature not just from cold to hot like in hair blower or stove but the other way around, from hot to cold without breaking the laws of thermodynamics.

First, This vid mentions evaporation a lot!. There's a big difference between evap cooling and refrigerant cooling. An example of evap cooling, is what's called a "swamp fan" and sweating. It uses water to absorb heat and carry it away as it evaporates.. Evap cooling does not get as cold as refrigerant cooling systems. I met an actual NASA chief engineer and we spent the evening talking physics. In chatting, we covered this subject, and he revealed the magic. I must say, his explanation was much easier and clear. Basically, we should understand that energy, seeks balance. If a fully charged battery, is coupled with an uncharged battery, over time, they will both be at 50%. Energy will transfer from the higher side to the lower till there is balance. Now, view heat as energy stored on an atom. Think of those atoms at 1.5V batteries. When you compress them, (forming a liquid) think of them lining up in series, multiplying the voltage. In terms of heat, the overall mass, gets hotter. As it passes through vents, that concentrated energy, is transferred off, to the surrounding environment (through the conductive copper, to the air outside). The condensed liquid, though still a bit warm, collectively, has lost much of it's heat/energy. When you take that liquid and then disperse (diffuse) it back to a gas (decompress it), those individual atoms (batteries) are spread apart, and have dropped from 1.5V to 0.5V (figuratively) and are much colder. The cold gas, is then circulated through vents in an area (the home or refrigerator) ) where the higher energy (heat in the home or refrigerator) is transferred into them (bringing them back to 1.5V).. The gas returns to the compressor, and the cycle repeats. When This makes sense, then it's easy to understand, that heat/higher energy, always travels to cold/lower energy areas, to create balance. However, this should not be confused with how cold air, rushes into warm areas. That's a result of air pressure, since cold air is denser than hot air. (although, this is another form of energy balance). The principles of heat loss, become more apparent when you visualize air, as layers of atoms. heat transferring from the source, traveling across the layers, in effort to bring them all to balance.. and why water, conduits even greater energy, and moving water, where the layers are constantly shedding and being replaced with new ones, conduit even greater amounts of heat from the source.
