Personally. I switched after 20 years with Canon and last using the R6 to the Sony A7 IV and to this day. I am always amazed how bloody good this camera is. It is quite amazing.

Great video. I purchased my A7IV when it came out. Still love it. I am a hybrid shooter shooting stills and video. I tell people this is a piece of equipment, not a piece of fruit. The A7IV is as good today as the day we bought it (if we took care of it). It didn’t spoil as it got older. Rather than chasing new shinny gear embrace the feeling of mastering the equipment.

I bought an A7iv a couple of months ago. The difference between the Sony and my Fuji is significant. I’m guessing the Mark V will be heavier and bulkier, which would make it a no go for me. I might get a A7Cii for travel, but I have no need or interest in more megapixels/heavier camera. The compactness and weight of the IV, with the Sigma I series and Sony small G series lenses is as big as I’d ever go. I played with that Nikon Z6iii and the LUMIX S5ii, but these are beast bodies, large and heavy. I ignored Canon because their better lenses are heavy and expensive. I don’t care how old the A7iv is because it’s new and improved to me, and hits the sweet spot of usability and image quality.

I’m still using two A9 Mk1 camera bodies. No need to upgrade at all as they give me all I need.

Overall, I think the 7C II would be a better choice today, but it's also worth considering waiting for the A7 mkV. Sony α7: The first model, the Sony α7, was announced in October 2013 Sony α7 II: The Sony α7 II was announced on 20 November 2014 Sony α7 III: This model was announced on 26 February 2018 and became available on 10 April 2018 Sony α7 IV: The Sony α7 IV was announced on 21 October 2021 and released in February 2022 So next one maybe end this year!?

I'm going with an A7cii and potentially add an A7V in the future.

Camera technology hasn’t really moved since 2017. Even the A7111 is a great camera today

It all depends on what you are doing when asking "does it hold up". If you are a non-professional, I believe 98% of all photographers will be covered with an A7IV. I use an old A7Rii. If you only shoots studio portraits, product photo or landscapes/cityscapes, it will have you more than covered. You dont need anything better for that - as an amateur; of course a pro needs more fast and reliability even in studio. That said, as I want to go to bird/animal photo and event photography, I want (need?) that better AF system for fast moving subjects and Animal and bird eye AF. Point is, A7Rii is enough for many still, then definitely the A7IV is more than enough. Do I want an A7RV? Yes. But my wallet and storage solution does not. 😅
