Well, the whole music industry really is built on content, not art. Art's too inconsistent in terms of quality and quantity, look at Kendrick. Man went on hiatus then dropped MMaTBS and people really didn't fuck with it much. Now he is/was basically on hiatus again UNTIL the Drake thing came up. Thousands of Kendricks couldn't sustain this machinery that is the music industry. It needs "Drakes". Is that good? I don't think so tbh. He got heat because J Cole had multiple songs calling himself one of the greatest. As a rap artist, when you start calling yourself you are going to have people looking at you. Because the title of one of the best is a title that holds meaning, regardless if people try to play it off as otherwise. The he name dropped Kendrick as sharing the mantle of one of the big three. Which Kendrick took as an insult. Kendrick does not want to stand nor get told by another artist that he stands on the same level of Drake and himself. So Kendrick tested his "I'm one of the best" claim and dissed him. Only for Cole to back down and not even give it a true fight back. That was enough for people to give him crap. Because battle rap is virtually the foundation of rap. It was seen as pathetic regardless of how he tries to frame it as "mature". Just like the video stated earlier it's "framing". He's framing it as some mature move when it wasn't. He backed down because he knew Kendrick would absolutely violate him and he chose the most profitable outcome. Get crap for a bit for backing down with a potential for it to die down later or try to fight back, get demolished, and have the possibility of career ending information to be brought to light kr resurfacing. Just like what is happening to Drake currently *That* is why people give him crap.

@@dually81 I do think Kendrick wholeheartedly feels that way about Drake but in regards to Cole it's not equally that serious. Cole isn't a vulture like Drake is, Cole is selfmade and authentic. It's out of character for him to team up with Drake (I also believe Drake wanted Kendrick on First Person Shooter as well because he has a hard time reading the room) and Kendrick might feel some kind of way about that, but it's really been about Kendrick not wanting to be called in the same breath as Drake specifically. He's done a lot better than Big Sean tho who has extremely underachieved. People who actually believe Drake planted the info are coping. It makes no sense that he expected Kendrick to take the bait and was completely unprepared to respond. No follow up track ready? No pics posted to IG showing evidence of this setup? Even trying to say the picture was planted makes no sense. So the Ozempic, gloves, and “Shortee Collection” were references to Ross and Kendrick, but what about the sleeping pills and anxiety meds? And why do they have Drake’s legal name on them and are from legit pharmacies? The reason the pic can’t be posted on streaming is because Kendrick doesn’t own the picture, and it’s a HIPPA violation, so the “hiding the picture” sht don’t work either. Instead of being happy Kendrick took the bait and going straight to exposing the ruse, he let MTG simmer AND let Kendrick post another track while he sat on the internet defending himself to Wackademics. He didn’t even write The Heart Part 6 until the day after Not Like Us was released. It’s okay if you like Tootsie Sliding to the man’s music, but cmon y’all can’t really believe this. 💀

I'm not going to lie, I was routing for Drake during most of this beef for a few reasons 1. I'm from Toronto & have been listening to him for about 15 years. Routing for Drake meant routing for my city to me. 2. I was conflicted about Kendrick. Dude saved my life back in 2015. TPAB - more specifically Mortal Man - stopped me from doing something I wouldn't have been able to undo. He also gave me the confidence to pursue music which gave me that sense of purpose. I was 19 then. Over the years I got burnt out musically; I was only sleeping 4 nights a week because I was up writing music (only to not get paid or credited). Personally; I had been separated from my family after the divorce and had to figure life out on my own I guess lol. I guess what I'm saying is, as a fan, I felt let down when he took that hiatus. Not even let down. I felt almost betrayed. It made me question if he was truly who he claimed to be. I guess that's some abandonment issues of my own I gotta deal with lol. Around that time (2018-2022ish), rap was drastically changing and I couldnt tell if it was writers block or if I just didn't have it in me anymore, but I just felt so damn jaded as an artist. I actually found myself questioning if I've been faking being an artist because nothing I was writing about felt real. I genuinely felt appalled reading my lyrics to the point I took a heiatus of my own. Up until recently, I was struggling to wrap my head around it but this entire beef and videos like this helped put it in perspective. The reason I was jaded was because my suspicions were right - everything about hiphop for those years was fake. It wasn't that I was disconnected from the culture; the culture was being replaced by a cheap, corporately created caricature of itself. Artists were coming out of seemingly nowhere getting all this fruit for what felt like no work. They sounded the same, looked the same, etc. I think we all felt that frustration about it over the years. Funny thing is Drake was the one rapper that benefited the most from this forced cultural shift (also what I think kendrick meant by forced opinions). Ironically enough, it was Kendrick who came thru with the fury and freed the culture from Drake's chokehold; at the same time, helped me understand what I was going through. As much as I wanted Drake to win, and as disappointed as I was about him losing (among other things lol), I think ultimately for the best. Kendrick exposing who Drake was is important for so many reasons. God knows how many people he freed from that dude's brainwashing and influence. In the end, was Drake ever really for Toronto? Kenny succeeded in making fans lose trust in him. And now with these allegations. Even if they're unconfirmed, they've shed light on his questionable behaviors. All in all Kendrick came in with a Saga's worth of tea and drama & possibly wiped Drake off the map and gave millions of rap people around the globe something to celebrate. TLDR - projected abandonment issues onto Kendrick; Kendrick saved the culture; RIP Drake

I’ve been a Drake fan since Lil’ Wayne took him on tour and snippet of Money to Blow was released around 2007/2008. I believed if Drake was good enough for Lil Wayne, then he was good enough for me. I was also 17 back then. Now at 32, Kendrick helped to open my eyes. As you said, he did free me from lies and chokehold that Drake has kept us in. Feeding us garbage music with no substance. I can’t even listen to his music anymore. I don’t look at himself the way. I outgrew him.

As a Canadian rapper, he’s shown a lot more love to the U.K. than Kdot or the overwhelming majority of American rappers. That’s just the facts. Not just in music but with ‘Top Boy’ too.
