Bonjour de France (as I don't speak English properly, I'm using an automatic translator), Thanks to the KZitem algorithm for putting this video up, I didn't know that Egypt was building a high-speed train network.

This was such an insightful and well researched video! Egypt seems to really be advancing and building a lot within its country! I am excited to see what else you come out with next!

One major reason that HSR will work fine in Egypt as opposed to the USA is the population layout. If you examine maps of the residential areas of their cities, it becomes obvious that Egypt has few, if any, suburban areas. Egyptians live in cities. The social and financial stratification all is contained in their urban areas, with few reasons or options to "flight." The USA population is highly suburbanized, spread out, and segregated, with poor populations mostly confined to the cities and stigmatized suburbs, and middle class/upper class sprawled out to distances from urban centers that would never be seen elsewhere in the world. HSR could work in the USA, but the layout would have to be radically different to ensnare ridership. The nature of commuting in the USA is also a major obstacle, with a high amount of suburb to suburb to commutes what would make foreigners scratch their heads.

A lot of what you’re saying is true for flying too, which is primarily where a lot of US HSR corridors will be competing. Where it isn’t, say for example LA to Vegas (80% dominated by driving) there will be a number of massive park and rides directly on the highway and also suburban stations on the periphery of both cities connected to other rail and bus services for continuing journeys. Something similar is being planned for California HSR except that this line will also function as a high-speed commuter line for connections between San José and SF as well as from Burbank to Orange County and will also offers fast connections to a number of airports. This model could also work extremely well for the Texas Triangle too which is probably the other strongest HSR corridor outside the NE.
