I really enjoy the content this channel provides regarding the human achievement in track & field. Now for the uncomfortable part. 99.9% of the athletes showcased here are on some form of performance enhancing drugs. The system as implemented today (athletic commissions) makes people into "cheaters" in an unfair manner. This "moral stigma" regarding hormones is borderline misanthropic. Legalization, openness and clarity would benefit everyone.

When Eliud Kipchoge eventually unties his racing shoes for the last time, he will have become the GOAT! There will always be discussions and comparisons, but in a final analysis, Mister Marathon will have elevated the mystique and romance of Marathon racing to a new and lofty place. Without question, Eliud has already taken down any curtain of obscurity during his exemplary running career, building it ever so slowly to a place that only he may have foreseen, somewhere within all those thousands of training runs and intervals and support work that he has done for decades. I spell G.O.A.T. with these letters: E L I U D K I P C H O G E. The answer is always 42 (kilometers) and the records are his. The reality is yes both the Ethiopians have won more races and the 5k/10k distance also crosses over into the cross country disciplines. These distances are considered better events for benchmarching an athletes earobic capacity and all round fitness. Having said that I tend rank track and road as separate sports all together as they have little in common. The best track runner Ive ever seen is Hitcham El Guerrouj and the best road runner is of course Kipchoge. The two Ethiopians were very well rounded runners and successfull at all forms of distance running. Kipchoge’s records will be broken at some point but there is no way that anyone will touch to the totality of his accomplishments.

I believe that long, long distances are correlated with age. Somehow it seems that the peak happens after decades of training with these distances.

Your ranking can’t be right. First of all i think no other marathoner has won more than kipchoge consistently and for goodness sake he holds the world record. He has recorded the greatest time more than any other so I don’t how you came up with your ranking but a respectfully disagree. Even just having the world record for me is enough to believe he is the greatest let alone his consistency

There’s a very big difference between greatest Marathoner ever and greatest distance runner ever. Bekele is borderline undisputed greatest in distance running. Won everything on the track and in CC, and even saw great success in the marathon. Gebrselassie did the same.

@@thedailystride5407 I absolutely agree. It's still a miracle how kipchoges 2:01:39 didn't get broken by Bekele In 2019. also remember Haile was running world records week after week with Daniel Komen. They were racing every time . Very busy schedule. He ran 26:22 and then a week later he ran 12:39! When Bekele broke the records in 2004 he also did them within 1 week of eachother. He also won double world cross country championships that year. Not to mention the Olympics in Athens as well

3rd? Seriously? What does he have to do to be recognized as the goat? None of the other two are currently world record holders and it doesn’t get more long distance than a marathon where he Has only lost twice in 18 races and only human to go under 2 hrs in a marathon

If you ask any person on the street what Long Distance running is, they would immediately say Marathon. So, Kipchoge IS the GREATEST Long Distance Runner ever!
