For anyone wondering , the D major pentatonic shapes he’s playing is the same as B minor , which is the relative minor of D major . Mixing major and minor is my fav thing to do on guitar … the BB box is a perfect example of this . Great lesson . 👍🏼

This has been a wow moment for me as a 3 year player. Using similar phrases backwards and fires between the scales, and using the 2 minor notes in that Scale pattern, same with the major scale, like a conversation …… Awesome lesson ,

Your lessons are great, but Clapton? It's all Clapton's been playing for 65 yrs. It's Mel Bay Book 2 How to Play Blues crap, Not the guitarist I would aspire to be, a boring, repetitive, monotonous drone. he's a fraud. Lacks any musical imagination (talent), his technique IS flawless, but if he's your goal? Lot's o' luck, gentlemen! There are plenty of shitty seaside bars with open mic nights, do yourselves a favor, LOOK UP, NOT DOWN, it's not 1975 anymore

With all due respect to your excellent channel, and another really great video --- I gave up on learning dots and patterns a long time ago. I did this for a long time, but eventually found it really frustrating and limiting The best way is to learn all the actual names of the notes on the fingerboard, and the chords and arpeggios in every key, major and minor. But I sure do like your excellent analytical videos of what guys like Clapton are playing.
@PowMusic
Жыл бұрын
Chords, arpeggios, scales, and the harmonized scale (chords in a key) are patterns. You can’t help but visualize what you learn - I aim to expedite that process for people, and to connect the music to the underlying structures/context. Notes are absolutely necessary to learn but intervals (numbers) are absolute to all keys. What works for one person won’t always work for another so thanks for sharing your perspective

Excellent video! As a jazz player who also loves the blues, I really appreciate your vocalizing "Blue Moon" with the opening riff of "Sunshine Of Your Love". Eric's improvising is on the same sophisticated level as the great jazz improvisers. It's no accident that Cream had two of the best jazz musicians in England in their lineup. Long before Cream, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce were top jazz players in the British scene. Eric was able to fit in immediately with them and improvise on a supremely high level, equal to the very best jazz players. He's a very vocal player in his phrasing, like a sax or a harp player. In addition to that, he's also one of the greatest electric guitar geniuses who have ever lived.

This is a ‘Pearl’ of a lesson ! Early Clapton mixing major and minor pentatonic is so essential ! Careful though…….it’s easy to think it’s just a ‘1. 4. 5’ cycle but like all “songs” the melody, progression and meter demands ‘Creative Phrasing’……eg bending and holding notes longer than just a ‘1. 4. 5 ‘ cycle…..it’s these nuances that ‘bring the major’ of Clapton !

Many ways to theorize the same things...but Dorian doesn't have a major third, although the 6 and 2 are indeed part of the major pentatonic so that's def one way to see it!
