from the video a good exercise is: find chords on the piano that have different shapes on the fretboard like those open triads rick repeats a lot, create a harmonic line and then arpegiate them cascading in odd numbers like 12345 -123.

@@xyzyzx1253 I have tried. I'm good with 6th and first string and all strings in the first 5 frets, and 12 thru 17 obviously the same. When practicing all scale positions, let's say pentatonic I know where all the roots are etc while playing them, but the pattern is what helps me. If I were to pickup the guitar and someone pointed to a random position I still often have to think for a few secs. I think it's a brain defect. :)

It's actually easy when you know how to train and apply. You just have to learn and study intervals, then triads to mount the chords. When you practice the intervals I. The right way, you understand the neck without thinking too much, try that.

To those wondering about the theory behind this, im guessing he uses inversions of the same chords to then find lines inside these new positions. If you want to try this on a basic level, try to play a basic barre chord and then find new position going up the neck, scrambling around the notes to find new positions. Then, use what you find to inspire some lines that go in the same direction. Hope it helps at least one person, cheers!
