There's already a handful of EVs that have gone over a million miles. Sure some catch fire, but i've seen a few ICE cars catch fire too. One of them was at a petrol station in TX. If it wasnt for fast thinking squad driver that immediately pushed it out to the street the whole place would have gone up. If we dont adopt EVs, our lives will all be destroyed anyway. 360 to 420 ppm co2 just in my lifetime, and its going up exponentially. My EV is charged with solar panels, and i can get anywhere within 500 miles as fast as most ICE cars. I agree that EVs will bring an end to a mechanic's world. Tech is changing. What did all the farriers do between 1900 and 1913? Their world came to an end too. Of course there's s few still around. Its called progress. @mikelemoine4267

I'm in the US and we have weekly recycling services where we are told to sort out our glass, plastics and paper from normal trash and place them into marked bins for pick up to save the environment. We are warned that any oil or grease will contaminate a whole truckload of paper, so they ask us to rinse or wash glass and plastic before discarding. People who are out when they pick up (often before dawn) have seen the trucks dumping both bins into the same truck! The local news finally admitted that greater than 90% is still sent to landfill because the mixing of paper and plastics allows for easy contamination of the paper and because there is little to no market for recycled materials. The exception, I assume, is steel which can easily be pulled from the mix with magnets and for which there are recycling facilities to melt it back down. Most everything else goes in the ground, but at least it is washed first😞

@@deansh8506 The new batteries are superior to the original laptop computer batteries in the early EVs, but they won't outlast the car. It's possible they'll make replacements cheaper as volume goes up, but until they find a way to mass recycle them and clean up the mining, they will always be pricey. That said, most ICE cars made now won't last much longer than 10-12 years either as they've moved to so many plastic engine parts and overly complicated electronics that will make them unreliable with age. The plan is to keep us in payment forever by making cars like cell phones, you finance it and replace it every few years. The problem is that cars take up a lot more space in the landfill and unlike old cars that rusted back to the elements, these things will break down into toxic nanoparticles that will infiltrate the whole food chain and water supply. The ironic thing is all of this plastic is made from oil. Maybe someday if they find a way to make fusion reactors work or maybe a reliable and usable sodium battery, it will be more feasible. The bigger issue is that they are pushing it too fast and upsetting economies and overloading power grids.

Also we don't generate enough power or charging stations for everyone to plug in their cars. I just can't see it happening, at least not with the current technology but when you're talking 10 years into the future who knows what can happen (thinking the Jetsons again). The only thing that's clear is that the bloody politicians are wrecking this country.

It's all on purpose. Even the simple logistics of how a power grid could possibly support every other person owning an EV is nonsense, SA's power network is already falling over. It's to remove car ownership and to have something like lockdowns permanently. Keep everyone within a few minutes from their home
@brettmciver432
5 ай бұрын
Was it falling over before evs were a thing? Yes So how is that an ev issue? It's more along the lines of , oh we are not gonna invest in a better electric grid and only spend just enough to keep it stable ish. In the states if you took out just the electricity required to just run the jerry rig pumps that pump oil out of the ground you would get back enough electricity to power 16 million eves and stabilize the grid.
@Born_Stellar
5 ай бұрын
@@brettmciver432 so your saying that the grid was already having problems, BEFORE they went and added EV's? well that just sounds like EVs are making the problem worse. also if they stopped pumping oil and gas, were would the electricity come from for the EV's? are you 100% nuclear where you live? because if not its coal and gas. and if the gas didn't produce more power than it takes to pump it out of the ground, it wouldn't be pumped at all since it would be negative economically to do so. I don't think you understand the amount of power EV's take to charge. its something like having 20 ovens turned on for 8-16 hours a day. and oven actually cycle on/off during operation, where as EVs are a constant draw, so the reality is more equivalent to the draw of 40 ovens per EV. Ovens are already the most power hungry appliance in a house, adding 39 more that are on half the day would mean the grid would require something like 10-20x the current power. That means building 10-20x more power stations that run on...? what are they going to run on? and are they building these power stations? nope.
@brettmciver432
5 ай бұрын
@Born_Stellar So blaming evs for failure of the grid is fair, when the grid was already failing? Where should the blame be put? For eg in the 70s California was having black outs and brown outs way before evs were around. This is a fundamental infrastructure investment failure that's been building for along time , and has nothing to do with evs . The IMF in 2017 said that America alone spent 650 billion on oil subsidies. 50 billion more than what the US military had spent on them in that year. If they had spent half that money that subsidized oil , how would their grid look today, alot of these issues are greed and shareholders want profits now issues so just enough money only being spent to keep it kinda going is the issue. That's one of the reasons Elon built that big battery in Aussie which took over those peaker plants and now has stabilized the grid in that area, takes in excess solar during the day and stores it and releases it when needed , grid sorted.
@brettmciver432
5 ай бұрын
@Born_Stellar How much electricity is used to create a gallon of fuel? If you stopped for 1 month, just the jerry rig pumps that pump the oil out of the ground in AMERICA, the electricity saved would power 16 million evs. The pump houses for the pipeline ,stop them for the same month, and there's another 3 million evs that can charge. THERES AN AWEFUL LOT OF ELECTRICTY USED BY THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY, and every time you change what's needed or what you are producing you lose efficiency in that system , and most ICE engines are only 20-25% efficient, and those are well maintained ones so there's an awful lot of waste and inefficiency involved with oil production. We need it, yes, but why do we need so much?

Good video and thanks for sharing your thoughts Using my iPhone as an example, I purchased the one I’m using now in 2019. Last year after only 4 years, it told me my battery was degraded in needed replacing. Current max charge today is 77%. Scale a $1000 phone to a $60000 car over 4 years and start crying on the depreciation. Besides the battery, one thing people don’t think about is when software support will cease on their electric car. I had to stop using my previous iPhone which worked fine (after I’d had the battery replaced) because the updated apps wouldn’t work with the obsolete operating system. You might be able to replace the battery in your EV (at significant cost) but when the computers stop working, it’s going to be useless One final thing on LPG. What was once a waste product that found a use as a cheap but inefficient fuel lost its validity when the government put an excise equivalent tax on it. The advantage of converting and running fleets and big engine vehicles on LPG that would provide a reasonable equivalent cents per km cost was lost

Too much electronics involved that can't be fixed. At least in the old days when everything was mechanical if you couldn't find the part there was always a work around not so much when you are relying on computers to talk to your components. That's why a Model T that's 100 years old will still be around another hundred years from now and your new (name any car here) just won't.

I find it bizarre that due to the fact you get a shit load of sun in your county to capture with solar panels and put this energy straight into the cars that your country has been so backwards for all these years. I'm glad to hear the new goverment you have in power is changing this fact. Your country should be championing energy independence and this biggest fact why I love EV's is because us Brits can transition to some sort of energy independence and not buy in petrol from these rouge nations and keep our money in our country.

Luton fire was a diesel Range Rover. “Footage has emerged of a burning car that may have started the blaze at Luton Airport on Tuesday evening. The video shows what appears to be a Range Rover burning on the third floor of the building. Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the initial vehicle in the fire was a diesel car. A female eyewitness told how she attempted to put out the car fire before its fuel tank exploded and the building partially collapsed. The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she travelled to the airport to pick up her mother-in-law and daughter when she came across a vehicle engulfed by flames. “When we first saw the fire we tried to put it out,” she said. “We went down to a lower floor to find a fire extinguisher as there were already two empty ones nearby. “By the time we got back the fuel tank had already exploded and there was nothing we could do.” The fire service said the multi-storey building suffered “significant structural collapse” as more than 100 firefighters tackled the flames at the height of the blaze. Fire chiefs say a substantial number of cars were left undamaged following the fire but cannot yet be removed from the car park because the normal exit route is unsafe. Five people, including four firefighters, were admitted to hospitals in Luton and Dunstable for smoke inhalation. Another patient was discharged at the scene. Flights resumed just after 3.30pm on Wednesday after all planes to and from Luton were suspended when a major incident was declared.”

And speaking of longevity, twenty years ago we bought the Mrs a 96 Honda Rafaga, 2l five cylinder engine. That car is now close to thirty years old, apart from regular routine maintenance, its only ever needed a radiator. Unbelievable and I dont believe you could achieve that with modern cars. But thats like the lifespan of three electrickery cars potentially. Well, thats great for the environment isnt it? Ever seen a greenie drive anything but a shiny new electric car? EVs are here to stay. Compared to AUKUS, the government push for EVs is diddly squat. The doomsayers all laughed when Toyota introduced the hybrid Prius. Twenty years later they are still going strong. Lithium batteries will probably be replaced by a new generation of batteries. Finally think of all the petrol EVs are saving for those of us still driving ICE vehicles.
@Born_Stellar
5 ай бұрын
well maybe because hybrids make sense, pure EV's not really. If they are 'here to stay' it will be in tiny amounts, like 1% of all cars for the people who absolutely MUST have them. They can make the batteries better but we still don't have the power to supply even if 50% of the population had an EV, and I don't think there isn't really any gas savings. power comes from somewhere, and a lot of power generation is still liquid petroleum. Not to mention all the heavy metals they need to transport around the planet to make every EV.
@amraceway
5 ай бұрын
@@Born_Stellar I don't for one minute think EVs don't have some negative environmental issues. However already they represent way more than 1% of the vehicle fleet and that will grow rapidly. Even in EV resistant Australia nearly 10% of new car sales are EVs, despite every road block governments have put up against their introduction. Australia has excess solar electricity during the day to charge EVs.
@madcarguy12
4 ай бұрын
@@Born_Stellar What about how your fuel and oils are mined and brought to your local service station, remember the Exxon Valdez, deep water horizon, years later the planet is still paying the price, not everyone who buys a EV does it because it supposed to be greener, some do it to save $$$, i stopped paying $170 per fortnight in petrol to only paying $25 per fortnight in electricity for the same km travelled, let alone the no service required saves about $600+. Plus switching to OVO EV plan my whole house bill came down. The weight of a Model Y is 1.9t a Toyota Camry is 1.6t so 300kg is not a massive difference, my ford Ranger is well over 2t and people have caravans that are 3t, so what is wrecking the roads more? As for tyres they are a soft sports tyre and last the same as any sports car, most go through the first set quick because the acceleration and handling is something to be enjoyed, once you get used to it the next set of tyres will last a lot longer. Hopefully you don't complain about the number of emissions and tyre wear at Summernats as that is a sacrid event and environmentalist like you are a risk to our freedom.
@Born_Stellar
4 ай бұрын
@@madcarguy12 well 300kg, or 700lbs is actually a lot more, and yes you can compare different class of vechicles, like semi trucks weigh more than cars, but car for car, truck for truck, EVs are a lot heavier. 300kg being a lot yes. EV hummer is over 9000lbs, which is like 2 regular hummers or trucks. I think the model y is the lighter model too though, right? and more weight means more wear on the tires, the 'extra acceleration and breaking' is just even more added wear. studies have shown EV's produce a lot more tire particulate. and i wasn't complaining, I simply stated that the power comes from somewhere and the chances of it being 'green' are pretty much nil at this time. I think its pretty funny you got 'envrinmentalist' and 'anti freedom' from that. buy an EV if you want, but just like thats your freedom, I'm free to have an opinion as well. and my opinion is that all your savings will vanish as soon as your car needs a new battery or you go to sell it. like I said, just my opinion bro. i don't even know what summerknots is.

Stick to making your normal awesome videos, where we get to see the tinkering and repair of cars rather than delving into the EV versus ICE for clicks only brings out the worst in people, it also perpetuates the sometimes-false information about Electric vehicles and ICE vehicles. Myth 1: EV are too heavy (Model Y Tesla weighs 1.9t) compared to the 4wds (2.2T), Utes and luxury sedans, it's about the same or less, so road wear is no different Myth2: Charging takes hours - Who cares if my Tesla takes 4hrs overnight to charge on my home charger, so I wake up with 400km ready to drive the 18km to work and the 18km back, in 12mths of ownership I have only used a charging station once and that was more to see how it works. Supercharger took 12mins to charge the Model y from 23% to 62% which gave me 293km and cost $15. Quite reasonable. Myth 3: Tyres wear out quicker, the first set i would say yes as the power and handling make it so tempting to launch and push through corners, but they wear out the same as any soft compound sports tyre fitted to AMG, Porche, BMW I30N (Side Note: I replace tyres on my VP SS more often, usually the rear) Myth4: Battery last only 8yrs, the warranty is 8yrs that doesn't mean it dies at 8yrs, just like a ICe engine doesn't stop working after the 5yr warranty expires. Nissan Leaf one of the first mass EV made and they report that more than 93% are running their original battery and the vehicle has been available since 2010, The first few years had a few issues but once Nissan sorted them they have been fine, Toyota Prius batteries are very reliable 10yrs +, Some Tesla have clocked over 200,000km as Ubers and still only show about 8% degradation, so that's a loss of 32km in range, so you can still easily cover 330km from a charge. Most people will take over 10yrs to rack up 200,000km. Toyota on one hand say EV are not the way but then release a range of EV's vehicles. A Battery in EV are totally different to your iPhone, different chemistry and application, so not a apples for apples comparison, mind the pun. Also instead of looking for negative EV items on KZitem check out videos like kzitem.info/news/bejne/z25jtZ-cfJWDdKQ The team at Electried Garage are showing where $$ are to be made and $$$ to be saved. Myth 5: EV are no good for towing, correct to a certain degree, they can tow but realistically the tech isn't quite there, and it does reduce your range, but: if you need to tow buy a vehicle that is designed to tow, whether that's a small box trailer or a 3t caravan, chose the vehicle that's fit for the job. Nobody bought a Toyota starlet and then faced a barrage of hate about not being able to tow. Myth 6: Mining mineral, all cars' boats and tech use mined minerals, none of which are great for the environment, so if you are that concerned for the environment, sell your car, tv and and all electrical good, they all contribute to the problem, Myth 7: EV catch fire, really www.aap.com.au/news/electric-wreck-picked-to-bits-in-pursuit-of-fire-safety/ this from the fire brigade themselves Myth8: batteries cannot be recycled, check out Redwood in the US, check out Recyclus and Ecobat, they are starting to find that recycling is getting cheaper to the point that some items are cheaper to recycle than to mine new minerals. The more stock they get the cheaper the process, prior with only limited battery packs available the economy of scale wasn't there to make it profitable. Plus all the dooms day preppers and off grid people using old packs to full remove themselves from the grid. Myth 9: Doors have a manual opening latch just like normal cars. Just because you say the word Fact at the end of a sentence whilst also saying you're picking numbers out of the air shows you didn't do balanced research prior to the story and just wanted to jump on the EV bashing bandwagon to get extra click or likes. Then also saying you will call out anyone who raises a different view to yours instead of saying that you will, check their statements and come back to the channel with either "hey they were correct or hey you are incorrect and here is why" promote the discussion so we all learn. My Neighbours fancy BMW 4wd had an engine shit itself at 7yrs, cost to replace was $18k, so the car was scrapped as its value was only $18k with a working engine, it happens to all cars, some are dudes, some are neglected and break and others are looked after and maintained and go for years without issue. Issues: Road tax needs to be worked out as EVs don't pay the state road taxes, so the Govt needs to work this out to maintain the roads and keep it fair for all vehicle types. At the end of the day, you don't have to buy a EV, buy what you like, they are getting cheaper most are under $60k new with some in the $30k bracket and low 2nd hand values will make entry into the EV market cheaper. So, if you like an old school V8 (Who doesn't) then buy one or keep your V8 or V6 running, if you love to haul loads and weekends going bush or beach, great buy a 4wd and get out there with family and friends. If a hybrid suits you needs great buy a hybrid and get the best of both worlds. No one car suits everyone Just like an electric forklift won't work for your needs around the yard, a Electric forklift in some factories is a perfect forklift as the emissions in a closed factory from a diesel fork would be horrendous plus the noise. Horses for courses as they say p.s I'm not the smartest in the room, but not stupid either, lets get back to the original awesome content and not go down the tin foil hat wearing crap which dominates YT.

I agree; let me say this,make some folks think; ISome EVs sell for 100000!! f you ever see me buy a 100000 set of wheels,aV8, it's because i have at least 5 million THAT I WILL NEVER NEED in the Bank; 100000 for 4 wheels...! Karaaazy,man, Karaaaazy... CO2 is tHE BEST thing that ever happened to humankind; »»»»» you know trees? the huge Sequoia trees? any tres? plants, grass etc; Just how do you think they got the MATERIAL(cellulose, it is..) to GROW those 15 , 20 ton huge bodies? dirt?? NO, dirt stays at it is where it is, on the graond; so HOW??! whare does that MATERIAL come from???? well... it comes from the CO2 in the air.... AMAZING, the climate hysterics don't know this; (well, THEY DO, they are just too buzy making money off of the big lie...) the tree keeps the carbon, the C, for itself, to grow the huge trunk, and it gives us our precious Oxygen, the O2; so, the CO2 is split into C and O2, the miracle of the living vegetable kingdom; So i GLADLY continue on driving my DIESEL GASOLINE and LPG cars, all 6 of them, 1994 Isuzu Trooper 3.1 Td (OpelMontery here in Portugal,Europo,SW corner.. Lisbon is the capital lol.),a few 1994 to 1997 BMW 318TDS and 325TDS, 2004 Rover 25 4 banger,LPG pocket rocket, 2 small boats, scooters and motos, etc No cordless Evs for me,; nice as RC toys,not for cars; You see, there is ONE big problem: the best lithium batteries today have only 250 Watt-hour energy per Kg, while diesel or gasoline have 30 times more, they have 10000 watt-hours per kg; so EVs are TOO HEAVY, always hauling around their huge WEIGHT, making them very unpleasant to drive like loaded trucks all the time. Sorry for those who already commited their monies to that bad idea; Amazing is that ONE man, ONE man, managed to contaminate lots and lots of people with the fantasy; AMAZING And remember::: just because everyone says it, it does not mean it's true.
