@@ZuzuTheLemonNo, no hope for BBC at all. As Naom Chomsky pointed out famously in '96, BBC tell folk what to think and are very limiting on what they consider facts or/& information. Mainstream, neoclassical voodoo economics is the stuff BBC is tasked to perpetuate - even when Bank of England was forced (back in '14) to tell some truth, that BBC et al refused to report! I came across Skindred for the first time at Beautiful Days this year. They had stepped in at very short notice when the Proclaimers had to cancel. They were nothing short of amazing! Really entertaining, great showmanship, great musicianship and a great sense of humour! Despite the fact that they had only a couple of days notice their show was impeccably planned and delivered and included their own unique take on '500 miles' ❤

I was at my uncle's wedding in July. He's 53, a black British, long-dreaded DJ who loves Reggae and Metal and has DJ'd for 35 years. I said we should go see Skindred the next time they play cos they've been one of my most fave bands since I first saw them in 2003. He didn't have a clue who I was talking about. How abyssmally sad is that, when someone who plays reggae and metal for a living, and is British, doesn't know them? So I'm glad they're getting a little more exposure - though I'm not sure Morning TV is the best place for them... They need to soundtrack a Christmas ad :D

They're one of mine and my son's favourite bands (that list topped by the Darkness, obviously!). He was 11 when we went to Maid of Stone over the summer and they did a signing. They couldn't have been nicer to him! I could barely speak I was so star-struck! Just great. Then we got to the barrier and he did his first Newport Helicopter! He couldn't have been happier that day. Smile has been on repeat ever since. Over the years, I've introduced loads of my friends to them (since a friend introduced me to them back in 2010?) and I haven't had anyone that's seen them live not come away loving them (ok, there was somebody at Download this year, but she was just upset that 5FDP had cancelled). I've always felt they should be higher up the bill than they usually are (mid to late afternoon) so a 2nd stage headline was well deserved in my eyes.

Saw them about 5 years ago at a small rock festival in Wales. It was late, wet and for some reason most of the crowd had gone to bed, leaving Skindred with around 200 people max to perform for - yet they absolutely kicked ass. If you can go from performing in front of tens of thousands at Download and bring that same energy wherever you go, you're a great band imo.

Seen them at DL numerous times with an audience of thousands, and then saw them at the local rock pub too, in a packed little room, with about 300 people. Both iterations are always amazing and they put 100% into it. That's one of the reasons they're so loved in the UK metal scene. The music is great, the performance is always amazing, the guys are normal and so down to earth you'll usually find them wandering around after a show.

My take is that TikTok reflects the latest generation's rediscovery of the past in the same way the internet of the 00s enabled milennials to rediscover the past. And you had the same stuff back then with people downloading albums but the older generation reacted by fetishising vinyl as if to say "what you're downloading isn't the **real** music". TikTok dances are cringe, but so was Guitar Hero and shit like that. The thing that makes it sad and disorienting is that in each generation something is lost and new things are added that distort the meaning of the original. Everything just moves on and on.

I don't know how success is measured these days, but I think things have changed so much that there's no relevance to "charts" and radio. You can be a massive success online and make a hell of a lot of money from a great audience, while never having a label and never being played on the radio. You can tour and fill venues in the same way. I'm not sure democratization is the right word, maybe we're just evolving past the gatekeepers and slowly switching to a new model that's more organic and dare I say more wholesome.

Benji is such a lovely guy, i was lucky enough to have skindred as a customer at a touring supply company i used to work for and benji would get the bands drum heads and other bits before heading on the road. bloody top bloke!!!

Not my kinda music. I spent my rain day opening and listening to all 5 The Darkness LPs from the 20th Anniversary Box Set. Awesome release.

I love benji. I took my 14-year-old to see them, and it was her first ever gig. Benji was amazing and let me get a pic of her with him. I've had pics with him before, always got time for his fans x

Seen Skindred in huge tent, EVERYONE involved, EVERYONE windmilling, and then they came out for an encore (no-one else that festival did) and sung Hey Big Spender... because why not!

Saw them last year with Napalm Death, both supporting Volbeat. Fantastic gig. Three very different bands covering most of the music I love. Have seen Skindred several times live before - always great fun and get the joint jumping. And helicoptering :)

Benji was also on Nevermind The Buzzcocks this year too. With the rather marvelous Nova Twins on another episode. It would appear rock music is sneaking onto telly again

I saw them supporting Blackstone Cherry in 2011 along with Stone Gods ! There was a young girl in front of me totally rocking out to Skindred . after they finished - she just left , and didnt stay for the other bands. Maybe just a fan of reggae / metal , I`m not sure . But it just struck me as a really cool thing to do ...

starting from Fleetwood mac, tik tok really did wonders to older bands "come-back" to the "mainstream", its a love n hate for me as well

I'm old like almost 50. Tiktok is a new thing to me I don't pretend to understand it. If tiktok is getting young people interested in music that can only be a good thing in my opinion. Music has been my life only regret is I never formed a band too late now 😂 pass the zimmer frame 😂
