Your review of Monsters and your problems with it describes very well why I never wanted to pick it up although I'm interested in the topic. I'm always wondering if all the people who are defending (living) artists, arguing that you should separate the art from the artist, would still stick to that opinion, if they themselves or someone they love would become a victim of some of the artist's actions.

Best TBR Spin. Guilt free removal of The House of Spirits and select one of my Shorty September books. Picking up Black Vodka by Deborah Levy, a collection of short stories. Bought them secondhand at the same time and amused the woman at the desk, who asked me whether I was going for an alcohol theme.

I was thinking of the Monsters book when the recent stuff about Alice Munro broke. Basically I love her stories, whatever the author might have done. And the current cancel culture has many readers avoiding her books. Plus it is uncomfortable that accusations have been made after her death so she has no right of reply.
