Lapras is one of the strongest Pokemon in all of Red/Blue, with a deep movepool and amazing stats. Will that be enough for it to take a stop in the top tier?

The Porygon run is right around the corner, I can feel it!
@scragar
2 жыл бұрын
Porygon is potentially really strong. It can turn into the same type as it's opponents which is a reasonable defence, it learns sharpen at level 1, so it'll always hhave a stat boost move(badge boost glitch), and naturally learning triattack by level 42 means it has a naturally strong attack. It's special isn't too bad either and it learns psychic so that works against ghosts(although I think Agatha will be a pain). Most likely threat is the run just never getting started, only tackle to attack with until level 23 means Brock will be a run killer, conversion will reduce the damage,but Onix is stronger in every way so I can't see getting past it without a lot of luck.

@@sonofashepard130 struggle isnt typeless in gen one. I dont remember how high you need to get to beat Brock but i dont belive it was as high as 23. Conversion is a double edged sword there, it reduces damage taken but also rids you of stab. Tri Attack is meh, most importantly Porygon learns psybeam and recover on its own pretty fast so midgame is a breeze. Later on yes, sharpen allows you to badge boost and you have all you need when it comes to coverage. Easy run with some interesting strats in the earlygame, actually would recomend as a starter one if you want to feel out soloing

I think Cloyster could be an interesting Pokemon to run, great starting moves in clamp and aurora beam, as well as harden for potential badge boosting later, 9th best base stat total Although it is in the slow level up group and its speed isn't the best, still think it'd do pretty well overall
@Skarfar90
2 жыл бұрын
It might be on par with Dewgong in that regard. Their stats are pretty similar, having the same base speed and Cloyster does have a better stat total (480 vs. 405), but slightly lower special (85 for Cloyster vs. 95 for Dewgong). However, Dewgong is in the medium-fast level up group, so it does out-level Cloyster quite a bit. I did a run with Dewgong just to see how good it was... Well, I beat the game in 3 hours and 11 minutes. Now I am curious to see how Cloyster stacks up.
@Skarfar90

@yossarian The problem with Jynx is that she only starts with a base 40 normal move. This will cause problems when you face Brock. Jynx has very low (base 35) defense, and a low (base 55) attack stat, so she will struggle a lot with the rock pokemon in Brock's gym. Not to mention that Brock has a lot of Full Heals. So... time-wise, Jynx will definitely be slow in the early game, but gain a lot in the mid-late game when she gets access to ice and psychic moves. However, Jynx does have pretty good special and speed, with both being base-95. I would estimate that Jynx would end up at around 5 hours of in-game time

@@darkfiredragon3410 So ive been thinking about this. I kinda disagree. If you use the same move pool, Starmie has much better special, speed, and a 22% crit chance. misty maybe hard, but the bridge rival might be much eaiser. you struggle against misty, but you can take her on after clearing the nugget bridge. i think the late game will make up the time for early game, as brock and everything before misty is a breeze with the speed and the slightly better special. but the concept of being almost twice as fast will net you so many more crits, and lost battles to speed. also psychic stab runs through alot in this game. but i think we both make valid points, and we will see when it happens :)

Brock was an absolute joke, due to Snorlax' high attack and good starting move (Headbutt), and I was able to beat him at level 11. Snorlax' amazing health also contributed to this

@@Skarfar90 What was your Snorlax moveset for facing Agatha? Just curious. Seems like Earthquake is best for Agatha, so I'm guessing the best move combination for Elite Four is Amnesia, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt and Earthquake? Lack of Normal STAB hurts, but Earthquake is still strong against stuff like Gary's Alakazam.

As someone who never actually played the original (just firered), it's hilarious that you can get an ice beam just from giving some dude a fresh water. That's like if you traded someone a gatorade for their glock.

I did this too a while ago. Actually did it twice because I messed up a couple times and I did my first attempt on minimum battles. I'm only 5 minutes into the video when I'm writing this so I'll update this comment occasionally just in case anyone sees it So my strategy against Rival 2 was very different from yours. I actually battled Misty first and here's why. We have access to one other move and that is bide. Usually Bide is a terrible move but in that case it was a solid choice. Lapras has a really high base HP so it can easily tank everything from Mistys Pokemon and deal double the damage back. This is probably the only time Bide is actually useful in one of these runs. After beating Misty we get access to Bubblebeam and even leveled up so Rival 2 wasn't that bad actually. Update 1: I did Surge right away. The only way to lose is Raichu using Thunderbolt twice which it rarely does. You deleted BODYSLAM? Oh brother I'm sure you're gonna regret that one. I deleted sing and didn't teach psychic for a very long time. Update 2: I obviously had the same issues as you against Agatha. I taught Psychic for this battle and deleted ice beam. After Agatha I got rid of Psychic again for Blizzard. Lance was a joke with Lapras moveset and stats. The final battle went pretty much like yours except I had Bodyslam for Alakazam and as sort of a plan B if I get a special drop. My time was actually faster than yours because I saved time with Misty and Surge and I learned from my first attempt with Lapras. I ended up beating the game at 3:30 and honestly I would've put Lapras into the tier of Gengar and Alakazam.

It would be cool to see how quickly you can finish a run when you have 4 good moves from the start. For example, starting with Starmie with Surf, Blizzard/ice beam, Psychic and Thunder/thunderbolt. I reckon you’d blitz through the game so much faster.

Here is a nice starts for you to consider: What if you got into the elite four poisoned? Like, have a weedle poison you or something. It won't affect you by much, as you heal before each battle anyways, and its will make Agatha a lot more consistent.

Poliwrath may be the best untested mon remaining. Starts with hypnosis/water gun/body slam. This gets it straight through Cerulean easily & opens up the rest of the game, where it can learn psychic, dig/earthquake, ice beam/blizzard, and submission. As long as you plan ahead for when you want those moves, you’ll have an answer for everything. Submission has STAB and beats Lorelei, and he resists most of her moves so the recoil is survivable. Hypnosis covers any imperfect situations. He has an answer for everything from Brock to Champion, no dead zones in the run. Also, he’s in a decent exp tier so he’ll level up at the same rate as Alakazam (faster than lapras and gyarados). I bet earthquake even OHKO’s agatha’s Gengars. Flaws: 70 base speed will cause problems in Agatha lottery. And no stat boosting moves for badge boost glitch.

RNG is RNG for the crit thing. Lapras has a 10.7% crit rate in Gen 1 and well, 1/10 isn't bad, so a closer to 1/4 in some fights would be expected in a few fights, especially cause its multiple resets. Like how his first Agatha Lotteries were definitely more than 50% hurt yourself chance. The level 18 thing may have been an attempt to use a rare candy early and defeating the other swimmer as well as seeing if 2 levels might be enough to outspeed the Pidgeotto... With how it went, the extra time it took definitely didn't warrant the grind.

"Hey everyone how's it going" Well Jrose11, I finished my paper mario stream with a friend and its xmas season at work so its been really hectic (work every day but xmas till my vacation starts new years) my pc fan died finally after almost 12 years of oiling it every month and a half, had another ezcema flare up on my hands and someone stole my birthday gift for my doggo meaning I may break my streak of giving her a birthday gift. On the plus side, you showed up with a new video quicker then I expected so I'm very excited! You know despite them giving you a very rare pokemon, I really never got into Lapras in play sessions. It was always something I'd forget about despite the anime. Usually because by the time I got to it, my water type was firmly locked in. I do like the idea of Perish Song in terms of a TB combat system because it drives up the ante if a user refuses to switch, and also allows for you to switch to a better situation. Almost like a reroll button in a D&D title. Don't expect it used much here. Curious to see if it can approach Poliwags time.
