Have you ever wondered how Finns celebrate Midsummer? Well, here you go! I take you along to Mäntyharju with my family (sister Lili, parents, mum's sister and her fiancé) to spend a lovely family Midsummer - or "Juhannus" in Finnish. I go for a morning swim, we do a little boat trip and have the most amazing local Finnish food of salmon, fresh potatoes, salad... Of course we also go to the sauna, swim a lot and sit by our little Midsummer bonfire. And Lili and I do Finnish Midsummer love spells!

These are the MIDSUMMER LOVE SPELLS (juhannustaika) that we mentioned:
- Collect seven different types of flowers around midnight. Don't speak whilst or after doing so. When going to bed, put the bouquet underneath your pillow. You will see your future husband in your dream.
- If you roll around naked in a wheat field, your future husband will appear in your life within a year.
- When the clock strikes midnight, let your hair loose and run to the field. Go around the field three times. When the person of your fancy will eat bread made out of the wheat from that specific field, he will fall in love with you.
About the Finnish Midsummer:
Midsummer is a main national holiday in Finland. Originally a celebration of the summer solstice, it is typically spent with friends and family away from the city. Lighting bonfires and bathing in saunas are two of the most typical traditions in Midsummer celebrations. Barbecuing, fishing and boating have later become standard Midsummer pastimes while enjoying cottage life. One Finnish tradition are the magic Midsummer spells, many of which have to do with hopes of increasing fertility and finding a future spouse.
