Got a drug test down at our local MLK BLVD when I was a teen, many moons ago, and while I was there because my foster mother caught me smoking pot in the back yard... The test came back positive for opioids. I'm not upset about a failed drug test from around 20 years ago, or upset about anything, really. I'm just not shocked that nothing seems to have changed. Adult now without any drug addictions, but the fact that I may have used heroin when I was 14, stayed in my childhood records until I was 18. Did me no wrong, in the long run, but what a thing to have over your head as a child without a "normal" safety net.

One of the companies that could show verifiable data their reads were accurate used stored data from convictions from the previous 30 years or so and discovered how many were not just mistaken (close), bad (far) and fraudulent. Facial Recognition Tech is the new frontier of bogus evidence that exists to bypass scrutiny, it's fucking garbage and everyone who is pushing for it has a history of skull measuring and race science. Shit can't tell the difference between you and a coat rack let alone you and any given person.

@Sol-Invictus Haha exactly man, and to me it's always been kind of absurd that people actually for that fake pee when labs can tell that it's fake. I guess they couldn't figure out how to find a friend that wasn't using to donate a sample to them and then just discretely give that sample to whoever is administering the test. A friend of mine had one probation officer that was just a moron so after my friend gave the sample cup to her PO the knucklehead didn't even look at the tempature strip on the little plastic cup and proceeded to place the sticker with my friend's name over that tempature strip. (My friend actually knew better and made sure to provide a sample with the correct tempature but she still thought it was funny as do I.) And that's just once instance of her incompetence. I hope that PO is still unknowingly letting other non-violent drug offenders get away with petty things instead of sending them to prison. Why would it matter if something is legal in a state over? Its still illegal where you are. And it's illegal federally. Don't get me wrong, I say ALL drugs should be decriminalized. But you're not helping by being as nonsensical as them... Also, yes, itll show the overall "family" of drugs, and then you can do further testing to narrow it down. In other words, itll show something is an opiate, and you can do more testing to see if its heroin, or fentanyl, or morphine, or whatever else. They don't need to determine which it is on the street to make an arrest, because all these things are illegal without proper prescriptions.... If anything you should focus more on how often these tests show false positives. Or false negatives. Both are a huge issue. Especially for law enforcement that don't know any better. Ffs, do a video on how many cops have "overdosed" simply by VIEWING what they THINK is fentanyl. Theres a real problem too. People are so sacred, they talk themselves into panic attacks, from seeing something, and that gets mislabeled as an overdose, adding to the hysteria. Again, just decriminalize everything already. You can still charge people for the crimes that stem from the use, like public intoxication, or driving under the influence (although that needs reworked too), or theft to support habits. But the actual use shouldn't be a crime. It causes way too many issues itself.

Capitalism doesn't care about what is right, only about what is profitable heh
@evelynwaugh4053
7 ай бұрын
That seems logical, on the surface. I don't think it would change anything, though. Firstly, we would have a huge problem with the safety, purity, etc. of the substances. We would need lots more governmental oversight because you can't just manufacture and sell any old thing that could harm someone. You can't even sell cookies without jumping through a lot of hoops. Secondly, even if drugs were legal, there is still a cost (actual cost to manufacture and distribute, overhead, plus profit) and someone will be motivated to undercut that cost. Having some substance available legally doesn't mean there isn't a black market demand for it. Like in CA, where Marijuana is legal, there is still an incredible amount of crime related to Marijuana. 5 people were just killed in San Bernadino County 2 weeks ago over a cartel territory dispute, and that kind of thing is pretty constant. In OR, where even hard drugs are legal, crime is rising. I also think that a society has a right to protect itself. Having a nation of addicts would be absolute anarchy. Addiction changes the brain; for some, the brain damage is so extensive it becomes a disability. A society can only work with a limited amount of non-functioning citizens. There's a tipping point.
@whateverwhatever4026
7 ай бұрын
@@evelynwaugh4053 Some of that is fair points to talk about, other things are your own misunderstanding and misinterpretations. Firstly, we already have a massive problem with purity. I'm not saying the government can't be involved at all. Ideally there should be legal access and avenues. Like now, they're just very very very flawed. People are already dying in mass because they're taking tainted drugs because they don't really have another option. Heroin doesn't even really exist anymore. Yeah, heroin, something that's already extremely dangerous and damaging is one of the best options, and NO LONGER an option now. It's all Fentanyl and Tranq. Mostly the Tranq. And that's such a problem, medical professionals don't even know how to treat it. People's arms are literally falling off before they drop dead, with no dependable way of bringing them back. There's no where to go but up. Like I said, the ideal, wouldn't be a free for all. That's the problem in places like OR, and WA, and CA, and MN, and so many places that have just given up entirely. That's not what I'm talking about. These places are just letting everyone do whatever they want, including stealing for their habits, and doing drugs out in the open, and anything else. It's the opposite extreme and just as bad. That's what you're envisioning and that's just as wrong as the "War On Drugs". Strictly only the drugs themselves should be decriminalized, along with support systems to help people. Plenty of addicts do want to quit, but options are very very limited there too. Not to mention, functional addicts are a real thing as well. All of this is possible, but you can't go crazy and murder anyone with a problem, and you can't let the addictions complete take over and have addicts stabbing everyone for a fix. Both are TERRIBLE OUTCOMES. It should be like something like Alcohol, where you're still not allowed to do it in public. Where it's regulated by the government most of the time. Where it's much less stigmatized and people can either do it, OR quit easily with help, without most of medical professionals looking down on them and telling them they're better off just dying. Crime will still exist, because a utopia is literally impossible. But it's definitely better than what's happening now....

@@evelynwaugh4053so a society reaches a "tipping point" ...well I think the tipping point of so many removed from the workforce and economy in prison causes much more damage. Drugs are illegals not because of the prison industrial complex propaganda you regurgitate...but because a very high %of lawmakers invest in private prisons. Funny how people will claim to be defending the country they love that prides itself on freedom by advocating taking freedom away from people that haven't hurt anyone, stolen or damaged anyone's property, and only crime is using a substance likely less harmful than alcohol which has caused more damage and deaths than all the other drugs combined.
