What would you use to core foam cinder blocks (open cell or closed)?
@DecoCreteTV
2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Open cell foam works the best. It'll be easier to get a good bond, just prime & start coating. If you have to use closed cell foam, you should rough it up thoroughly with a rasp before the scratch coat. I'll leave a link to a video on using the rasp. how much weight does the foam core support? Can i make a generator pad out of it and support the 400lbs that a generator is?
@DecoCreteTV
10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment! It's hard to give an exact amount of lbs that the foam core concrete can handle, there are just too many variables. I really wouldn't recommend foam core concrete for anything structural. I would stick with a full thickness concrete slab for your generator pad. I'll leave a link to our how-to video on forming a concrete slab. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!! kzitem.info/news/bejne/yKit16iubpObiIY

What thickness should the concrete be on top of the foam core
@DecoCreteTV
5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! The GFRC coat needs to be at least 1/2" thick to create a good structure. After that, the final layer can be whatever thickness you want. Most vertical carving mixes get applied at 1"-2" depending on what kind of look you are creating. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!

What is it Grfc backer?
@DecoCreteTV

Yes, the scratch coat on the foam is a GFRC backer mix, approximately 1/2" thick. After that, you can use a vertical concrete mix to create whatever you want. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!

Thank you for responding. Excuse my ignorance but do you posted any explanatory video on the subject? Thank you!

@@BybleBytes@BybleBytes We don't have any videos out yet that are specific to GFRC on foam. We may put one out in the future. In the meantime, here are a few that go over scratch coats and GFRC countertops. kzitem.info/news/bejne/2ZWZzqCOsYB8eWk kzitem.info/news/bejne/zm-Vlm1jiaZnfag

Would foam core work for a concrete aquarium?
@DecoCreteTV
6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I would stay away from foam for aquariums. Not saying it wouldn't work in some situations, but water creates a lot of pressure. That would be quite a bit weight for the foam to hold back. I don't think the foam would collapse, it would just be a matter of anchoring to the floor. We've built plenty of water features out of foam, but we don't have any experience with aquariums. Thanks for watching!!

Hot wire is the only way to go if you really care about the amount of mess and scrap styrofoam. Seeing him chainsaws outside and sharing the styrofoam with his neighbors?

The chainsaw definitely makes a mess, lol. That shot was from quite a few years ago, before we started using the hot wires. Thanks for watching!!!!
