Gensler’s design team shares the story of our firm's work with U.S.VETS and Tunnel to Towers Foundation to develop housing in Houston for homeless veterans to support the national organization’s mission to provide homes and facilitate re-entry programs. The first phase of the project will develop 150 units and the second phase will add another 17 units to address the worsening homeless situation of veterans in Texas.
Gensler Associate Amber St. Julian, who has several relatives who have served, says the project is important because, “all of these veterans have served our country and sacrificed their lives to make sure that we have a better world to live in, so the least we can do is make sure they have a place to lay their head.”
The goal of this project is not only to functionally provide homeless veterans with a temporary place to get back on track through well-designed training programs, but also to create a home that empowers veterans to establish a sense of belonging and meet their new families. By working with U.S.VETS, we believe this will create a new home that can restore pride for these forgotten heroes.
