He's been growing so fast, his muscular mass and coordination can't keep up with this crazy rate, that has been the main challenge in his life so far. The minor adjustments of a normal teenager growing up are major adjustments for him, years after years. But he is working so if his body can stop growing up, his athletic abilities should develop to match his height. I bet he must eat a lot but how hungry is he really? That's the million dollars question.

@ofishal1503

Since Porzingus came in the league.. around that time, I started saying that it will soon be common for teams to have Point Centers and eventually the rosters will only consist of 7 + footers at all positions who are athletic AF. Can shoot deep consistently. Have handles. And finish at the rim with the best of them. If you're 6ft or even 6ft 2 point guard, you're now a liability on defense. Modern PGs they perfer them to be 6ft 5, 6'6. Eventually it will be all 7' players with a similar skill set of wembenyama, Chet, Porzingus, etc. Eventually there will be a very good coordinated 8 ft player, with some athleticism ... Who will play in the NBA. They are getting taller and taller... And more and more skilled.

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. All of this shows you the perspective I am writing from. He looks pretty good. At 7'9", he can actually take dribbles, and do the step step dunk. Take someone from my era, Dale Davis, who was "only" 6'10", and is one NBA player who could not get the ball on a fast break, and do a simple bounce bounce step step dunk. Ervin Johnson (of the Sonics and Nuggets) also couldn't do this. However, Rioux looks light, and like he would be pushed around by Shaquille O'Neal. BUT, in the NBA in 2024, we don't have Shaq, Hakeem Olajuwon. In fact, even the best power forwards and centers are Stretch 4's and 5's. He's certainly intriguing. What I really like about him, is that while he's a good shot blocker and dunker, he NEVER talks trash. I really like and respect skilled athletes, who let their game speak for itself, without braggodocio. I really wish him well.

But if I’m being honest I’m not sure is Strength is as necessary in today s NBA With everyone being Face up and Rim runner styles C. His biggest concerns for me will be his perimeter defense. But as a coach I will go into it knowing to give him more help with the fence on the perimeter and keep him down low. And I would also like to see better lateral move them out of him. Historically once they get over 7’2” they’re more susceptible to injuries like foot, ankle, knee, and hips. I actually thought 7'8" Muresan was the height limit for a human to be healthy enough to play basketball regularly. Clearly I was wrong

Lets see how he performs in college this year. He's still growing.

Time to raise the hoops. not even a game for 8 footers. kinda silly with current hoop heights.

When someone is 7' 7" or taller, the first thing you can conclude is that they'll probably have a nearly non-existent nba career, at best. Gheorghe Muresan only had 1 season where he averaged better than 11 points / 7 rebounds. Manute Bol had 0 seasons where he could averaged above 4 points / 6 rebounds. Go see Kenny George for a 7' 7" center who averaged 12/7 in college with a FG% of 70%, and see whether he was even drafted. Or 7' 8" Paul Sturgess. Greg Oden couldn't even stay healthy, and he was only 7' 0". The legendary Mount Mutombo was only 7' 2".

He moves pretty well. 4 years of college and putting on some muscle could make him pretty decent.

That kid should have go to Real Madrid when he had the chance... In Spain U18 first division every team have at least one big guy (6'10 or more) capable of going toe to toe with Rioux. He would have been a better player after that experience.
