In 1970 I bought the 2nd from the top of the line Sansui, 35 REAL RMS wpc, AM-FM receiver from Radio Shack who was clearing out all of their non Radio Shack equipment, for $320! At the time that was a steal! And it put out 38 watts per channel. Times have changed.

The specific TPA3255 Texas Instruments power amplifier chip in class -D can give you 250W AES into 4Ω or 2x140W AES into 8Ω at 1%THD+N... BUT demand 53,5V/11A Power Supply.(48V/10A-> 210W/4Ω or 120W/8Ω) if you want lower THD+N you must expect power about 2x120w in 8Ω or 2x220W in 4Ω. if you want and power stability in 2 ohms you must degrese the power voltage under the 49V. this option of course will decrease and the output power of amplifier. it is not significant differences, owing to the logarithmic acoustic resoult of the power, but is still differences. the big problem is the power supply. with these thermal radiators you can not increase the voltage, over the 40V that give you not more from 2x80W in 8Ω or 2x150W in 4Ω. and allways we speak for AES watts. NOT RMS. and of cource no need to talk about symmetrical voltages which are necessary for a Hi-Fi performance. the 5533 op amps are real hi-end preamplifire chips and not need to replace. especialy in a class -D medium quality power amplifier. it is unneccesary expences. And one tip...: the power of your power supply must be 20% bigger than the total power of the amlifier giving, except the suitable voltage . (in class D amps. but in class H - AB1 - AB2 much bigger)

Nice little review but it would be nice to get some subjective impressions since you've used quite a few amps now. I would be really interested to know how something like this stacks up to the IcePower amp and Orchard Audio amp you built.
@Toid

Well, I’ll tell you this. I haven’t come across anything that stacked up to Orchard audio yet. That is still the best sounding amplifier that I’ve heard to date. I wouldn’t consider as good as the ice power, but for $100 it’s a really great amplifier.

Yeah, it’s pretty impressive. How much power and output for its size. Especially if you have a lot of amplifiers on hand with different power supplies that you can swap out. But even with the power supply that it comes with 146 watts is not bad at all

Decent little amp, but I prefer the Aiyima A07, if amplification is all you need, with a larger power supply. That thing dynoed very well by Big D

I love the AO7 as well. I actually have a new Aiyima and then I’m going to have on the channel soon. Having said that, I actually prefer this one over it. The main reasons are the 3.5 mm pre-out and the ability to change out your op amps if you want. But I also like the ability to have bass and treble controls. All things that the Aiyima doesn’t offer. So for me this one holds the edge over it. But I don’t think you could go wrong with either of them.

You guys (or most of you) are overlooking, perhaps, the biggest feature of this new BT20A - and that is the ability to change out/upgrade the two Op-Amps inside. Having this ability enables the user to really up the game sound-wise. I use upgraded Sparkos Labs discrete Op-Amps in various audio devices that I use - those being (for example) the Aiyima A07, Aiyima A300, FX-Audio D01 Pro DAC, FX-Audio DAC X6 Mk II, and several other devices. And the end result is a significant upgrade in audio quality. So keep that feature in mind.

One thing about the Amazon reviews is that it was for the old one. This particular one is a new version. Luckily people are saying that this new one is actually better than the old one so the reviews could actually be better even though it’s already highly rated lol

I hate how Amazon mixes and matches the reviews. You could be looking at a 42 inch television and I’ll give you the reviews of the 65 inch. I get that it’s the same make and model, but there could be a big difference. I’ve run across that a lot. Good call.

I chose an Aiyima instead of Fosi for one reason. Input selector switch. Any bluetooth device in range of an unpaired Fosi can pair with it. No password or anything. This also overrides the Aux input. If you have neighbors close by, you could suddenly be listening to their device while they wonder what they just paired it with. Not a good thing in the middle of the night.

I just bought a pair of Polk Audio Atrium 8's for my patio / screend in porch. They are 125W @ 4ohm per channel, woudl this drive those? If not, what amp would you recommend? I'll be mostly watching football, movies / etc on this setup. As I have a TV hung up high, with a FireStick connected. Was going to use a Bluetooth amp, and conenct it to the FireStick, then use the Polks for sound. Any suggestions?

Take these reviews with a big spoon of salt. I have this little ChiFi amp, it’s wonderful for what it is for desktop listening, casual game room setup etc. but let me be clear, it’s no match for even a entry level, but well built, well priced offerings from Cambridge or Emotiva etc. The Emotiva Mini X-A100 that I also own beats the snot out of this little bugger in terms of superb midrange weight, bass depth and tightness and well resolved treble and separation. But for $80, this BT20a Pro does hold a surprise or two on how well it still can drive medium to large speakers. Anything upto 11 O’clock position sounds good. Beyond that it loses its composure, but it’s already pretty loud 90db by then. Try this for fun and you may find a use case.

They're still under powered for anything beyond desktop use with 8 ohm speakers for life-sized SPL. Most bookshelf type speakers are typically too low a sensitivity to get these far enough away from clipping. Every one of these chip amps struggle in the headroom department other than for ambient use. These days, if you can't make an honest 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, you're better off just saving for more capable power. That puts these solidly in the category of, "If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is, and there's no such thing as a bargain." Rating these into 3-4 ohms is nothing short of trickery with trying to make it seem more powerful than it actually is. I won't be falling for it anymore. Same thing with using peak values over RMS with budget car audio. How about just building the real deal and charging accordingly, or at least giving the option other than maxing out power supply voltages and killing these poor little things prematurely. Truth be told, it's basically a 35 watt per channel amp into 8 ohms, to make the stated THD ratings even remotely applicable. Granted, it's a $100 range amp, and that's about what it's worth.
