Klinklang is an odd Pokémon. It has the good Attack, good Speed and boosting move of an offensive Pokémon, but the Steel typing and high Defense suggest a defensive Pokémon. Ultimately, Klinklang is both, using its defense and resistances to stomach hits and set up to become a sweeper.... if only it had better coverage. Seriously, that's what's holding it back. My tied favourite alongside Archeops since gen 5, and a staple on all my competitive teams ever since, even for OU. Moves that Klinklang absolutely deserves are Rapid Spin… because it spins, High Horsepower due to its changing gear ratios and potentially even Crunch, given how it can clamp on things and is quite literally covered with “teeth”. @@aceplaysstuff2621 I know. From a Naughty/Bold Klingklang it deals 37.2-44% to max spedef Steelix. Now we can see how pokemon perform in environments more suited to their power level, that most pokemon can find a niche somewhere in competitive. And yea, I adore Klingklang and wish it got better coverage. If Slowking can get an attacking move from practically every type, the floating mass of gears should be able to at least get some fire and fairy moves (Fire from friction creating heat, maybe something like Heat Crash or Flame Charge. And Fairy from being a very whimsical creature, a mass of sentient floating gears with a goofy face sounds pretty in line with fairy type)

They should give it levitate as an ability and make high horsepower part of it's movepool bc yk engine stuff I guess lol But seriously tho I think those changes would make it quite good

I remember running a fun set last gen that included Facade, which was fun to use when someone thought they neutered you with Will O' Wisp. It's a shame this Pokemon isn't in SV yet, because you could do some fun Tera things with it, but I like to think Revavroom is carrying on the Shift Gear Shenanigans torch.

I love this thing. Favorite type, cool design, and it even served as a very consistent sweeper in the soul crushingly difficult Pokémon Reborn!

I used a klingklang in doubles along side other plus and minus abilities. They use magnetic flux to boost defense and special defense on top of shift gear. It was really deadly in my opinion.

I LOVE KLINKLANG FINALLY THIS VIDEO DROPPED, i want to use klinklang in ou so bad but i cant because of lack of coverage the issue i have useing klinklang is the fact gear grind is really his only good move and he gets hella walled by ferra and magnezone in lower tiers klinklang aint good either cause ferraseed and magnaton exist but i still try to use him as much sa i can! he has some cool niche optoins like trickroom if you really wanna use him if it had eq it would be ou though

Swap its attack with special attack give it Overheat and Energy Ball (which make sense for what gears do) and it might do ok in lower tiers. Already has Thunderbolt, Power Gem and Flash Cannon. Give it Body Press too to complement its decent 100 Defense stat and the Iron Defense it has and it can run a nice little mixed set. Then buff its ability with Sheer Force to give a lot of those special moves a nice boost without needing set up.

Damn it's nice to hear Klinklang did so well~ I remember back in gen 5 not being too impressed with its design (it looks way better in 3D let me say that much) but then when I ended up picking one up in Pokemon Reborn it really surprised and impressed me with how good and reliable it was as a mon and has since become one of my fav steel types, just below Metagross and Togedemaru. Really wish it learnt stuff like Overheat, Earthquake or anything to at least wear down other steels though (GameFreak pls. Give it and the ice cream cone mons/ice pokemon in general some coverage).

Fun fact: Klinklang is one of three Pokemon that can learn and take advantage of Magnetic Flux outside of doubles. On its own, Magnetic Flux does nothing, but if the user or ally have Plus or Minus as an ability, it boosts their defenses by 1. Klinklang is one of few that has the ability Plus/Minus as well as access to Magnetic Flux, the others being Ampharos and Toxtricity. This could theoretically be useful on certain specific sets (I used a stall Toxic Sandstorm Klinklang in Gen 8 AG), but it can't really utilize it well because it doesn't get Body Press...

I'd buff klingklang by: replacing plus and minus with levitate and electromorphosis/download/motor drive/steelworker (one of these for its 2nd ability, first always being levitate) Giving it steel roller, circle throw, explosion, high horsepower, ice spinner, iron head, rapid spin, spin out, zing zap, spark, boomburst, overdrive, electro ball, electroweb, parabolic charge, detect, glare, eerie impulse, electrify, ion deluge, supersonic, wide guard. Give it the electric typing for STAB on wild charge or the electric moves listed above. make gear grind 90% accurate. That's extra 5% goes a long way. Make Hp 75 Attack 110 special attack base 80 Special defense 95 Speed 91 This Pokémon will still get outclassed by metagross

I think having Shift Gears be applied to a partner pokemon in doubles would GREATLY increase Klinklang's usage. Trail Blaze for Grass coverage and Icespinner for Ice coverage would also make it damn solid!
