I’ve seen people say Fire is a bad defensive type but when you pair it with Steel, you have the most 4x resistances in the game due to sharing common resistances, plus getting a neutrality to Stealth Rock, immunity to Toxic and sandstorm. Not to mention Fire being the second most resistant type after Steel with 6. This alongside Flash Fire, flexibility, power and bulk make Heatran one of the best OU Pokémon of all time.

I didn't realize quite how much variation Heatran has before I watched this video. Its crazy how every time it runs in to something that beats it, the mon just seems to adapt its moveset and end up insane regardless. Each individual Heatran has counters, but Heatran seems to have the ability to counter everything and fit on to any team style. Its also completely unique among pokemon in what it does, as its the only steel type in the game that can also completely shut down enemy fire types, and it just has an amazing mix of offense and defense. It doesn't feel as broken as other mon because it doesn't have the setup potential or speed to just singlehandedly sweep entire teams by itself, but its so consistent game in and game out that it can just always seem to pull its weight in a team and give you a distinct advantage for using it.

It has incredibly utility, powerful offense, amazing dual typing, and defensive merits that allow it to synergize with a variety of team structures. It truly has it all. It will never be bad and is almost always guaranteed to benefit from the new mechanics and changes each gen. Even in the ground type heavy meta game featuring Great Tusk, Iron Treads, Landodorus-T, and Ting-Lu, it still thrives. Disappointing that you didn't mention how unique and centralizing specifically Eruption Heatran was in 2013 VGC. Eruption + Fire Gem was overbearing enough for Wolfey to dub Heatran one of the top 10 most toxic Pokemon of all time back in a 2020 video. It eviscerated everything, and gem mechanics made it even worse to deal with because a gem wouldn't be consumed unless it successfully damaged another Pokemon, meaning an eruption into protect(s) or opposing Flash Fire wouldn't consume the item. Both Aaron and Ryosuke's 2013 teams were Eruption, and the nature lock to Quiet made it play more or less completely differently from non-Eruption Heatrans. Ryosuke's was min speed while Arash's non-Eruption Tran was 252 timid.

I'm surprised they didn't go over Heatran losing Toxic this generation, it hasn't slowed down but it still is pretty important to note

(gen 8) I think you missed to mention the importance of Rillaboom's popularity on heatran's viability. Like, most of the winning teams you shown used that core. On gen 7 that wasn't possible (on VGC) due to Bulu's lower viability and popularity Amazing film I enjoyed every minute 😍

Eight (soon to be nine when Gliscor gets his passport) Ground Types in SV OU and Heatran just puts on Tera Grass and continues to thrive, what will it take for this thing to be bad.

54:40 never in my life I would ever hear that Grass is a good defensive typing. . . . Dang, Heatran must be that great!
@worldiefeard8396
Жыл бұрын
To be fair, depending on the metagame ofc, Grass *is* a good defensive typing. Water and Ground are 2 of the most common offensive typings, with water's amazing neutral coverage (as well as Rain more or less always being a viable archetype) and Earthquake being on every other phisical attacker. Grass does, indeed, resist these, while also resisting Grass itself and Electric. Resistance to Grass is moderately important any time Rillaboom and/or Kartana exist, as well as the newcomer Hisuian Lilligant. Weakness to Ice is unfortunate, but this generation doesn't have that many Ice types around (and as far as smogon goes, most of the good ones got nuked to Ubers), and there is a distinct lack of strong flying stabs currently, expecially due to Tornadus-Therian taking a massive hit due to the moveset losses.

Heatran should be a version exclusive to Volcanion Sinnoh didn't give players much fire types to work with during game play, but it more than made up for it in the post game with this guy/girl.

I’d not realized just how incredible Heatran’s defensive typing is until this video. Until gen 6, there were only 2 types that hit it for neutral damage, Electric and Rock, it has 5 quad resists in Fairy, Grass, Bug, Ice, and Steel. Plus, due to flash fire, it has 2 immunities to Poison and Fire.

I actually placed Top 32 at the Nashville Open with a team that had Heatran. I think you should've waited a little longer to make this video, as the 2023 World Championships is approaching us soon and Heatran could very well be used by a decent number of players there
