I should point out that in Pokémon Colosseum, Shadow Bayleef was the most chosen Johto starter, but not on purpose. It's because when the choice opens up to you, the game does a _terrible_ job letting you know there even _is_ a choice. The only information you're given beforehand is that you have to go to Pyrite Town immediately, and from there you enter the map right next to the blocked exit with the trainer who has Bayleef. If you talk to him the battle starts right away so by the time you realize you could have gotten a different starter, it's already too late and you're stuck with Bayleef.

If you switch its attack stats It could profit from its huge physical movepool Yes it would loose eruption But base typhlosion has 5 different types for special attacks (including solar beam and focus blast)...well and normal But freaking 11 with physical attacks, with moves like play rough, iron head, wild charge or earthquacke of course It would make it better in my opinion (And its funny that a special attacker has better moves as some physical ones)

Honestly if it wasn't a starter, Typhloshion would probably be a Normal/Fire type.

This reminds me of back in HGSS when they let Typhlosion learn Earth Power at the Battle Frontier, and everyone was like, "Oh that makes so much sense!" And then they gave it and its fellow Johtonians Mega forms in Gen VI because they're classics too. And then after all the positive feedback from fans everywhere they continued to do things that made so much sense like not arbitrarily taking Dual Wingbeat away from Charizard, and not having Raids set on a timer that can be easily desynced because of varying connections. And now Gen IX is smoothly executed and Typhlosion is solid in competitive even post-Megas, and things are just nice. Good memories.

"And then they gave it and its fellow Johtonians Mega forms in Gen VI" Typloshion never got a mega form though. The only starters that got mega forms in Gen 6 are the kanto and hoenn starters the rest didn't get megas.

H-Typhlosion should have gotten Mold Breaker as an ability. Pretty thematic and would also make it better competitively.

I only play doubles pretty much because I love Typhlosion so much. It was great to play doubles and watch eruption melt peoples shiny boxart legendaries in the murky depths of link battles.

Personally the buff I would give both forms of typhlosion is access to thunderbolt, since historically its access to Thunder punch has been a big part of what makes it different than zard, and that was before the physical special split. This would probably help a lot by helping it hit waters and making it stand out from other fire types even more despite the whole same stats as zard thing. And/or giving hissuian access to aura sphere so that it doesn't need to rely on focus miss and thematically it can do stuff with spirits

Man, so sad that he didnt get eruption on gen 3, he could have been a pretty interesting alternative to moltres, having more damage (with the correct team support) but being weak to spikes , similar to how blaziken its a more powerful version of charizard (both are fire mixt attackers that can destroy skarbliss), but weak to spikes

Tbh, I have to thank legends arceus and the Pokémon adventures gold, silver and crystal manga for making me appreciate typhlosion so much to the point that it’s my favorite fire starter ever (just not my favorite starter overall).

I was surprised by how well it performed, since most other videos don't mention Typhlosion when talking about prominent threats in the lower tiers. Turns out it was because Typhlosion was so good it kept landing in the ban list. You hate to see it, but also, you love to see it.

That was because it did well in the lower tiers. In the earlier gens, it always had the problems of being overshadowed by Charizard. It’s really depressing how it’s selling point was having barely better coverage while Zard had Belly Drun.

I only question Game Freak giving Hisuian Typhlosion the ghost typing because of Skeledirge and Ceruledge being just on the horizon. Both outclass it in my opinion. I felt it should have gotten ground or steel as that secondary typing. It just seemed so off during Legends. I really hope we get g/s/c remakes on the switch or a Lets Go game.
