Pep Guardiola is truly in a class of his own. While some argue that his success is solely attributed to the unlimited funds at his disposal, I beg to differ. This man is a football genius, operating on a level entirely unique to him. Even Liverpool fans, who may claim that Jurgen Klopp matches Pep's prowess, should acknowledge the distinction. It took Klopp eight years to modify his 4-3-3 system, whereas Pep has continuously reinvented his teams. Moreover, Klopp himself has adopted the box midfield, a tactical approach popularized and perfected by Pep. This underscores just how influential Guardiola is.

Pep is more focused on players who won't screw simple passes up, rather than players who can play pinpoint 40 yard diagonals. Considering the precursor to misplacing a simple pass is usually a bad first touch (which themselves are often a result of a poor pass from a teammate), it makes perfect sense that Pep goes for capable dribblers with great ball control. He has done this for most of his managerial career. Their signings can often do the pinpoint 40 yard diagonals too - but that's very much secondary and down to the calibre of player he tends to have, especially with KDB at his disposal.
@foolishball9155
Жыл бұрын
Except for haaland whose first touch is worse than some Sunday league players and his passing is average. But hey he gets his job done. Pep does not look for specific type of player,he looks at a player and thinks if the player can remove weakness on the field. It was obvious that pep needed a true no 9, so he signed haaland regardless of his preferences. That is what makes him a good coach because he signs players according to his needs not his desires. He saw that he could not make progress on the field with the ball so he signed players that could help him do that exact thing. His idea is simple but a lot of thinking and work is necessary to make that simple idea work.

Pep always goes for players I've never heard of and he brings the beast out of them🔥🔥 on the other hand my fookin manager ETH goes for players who are famous and they just flop🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ at this point I don't think he is a tactical genius at all.

Man. City have had for second year in a row the best transfer market. They add players they really need, and have built an even more incredible team than last season. In terms of squad potential, Citizens are aiming for another treble. There is no discussion as of today. They're the best team in the world.

that's because you weren't even born or watched football before pep football went through immense transition before pep, under legendary managers who pep learnt from each generation there's a manager that will try to fundamentally change football, last decade was mainly thanks to cryuff, you can watch videos for yourself and see how much past managers, especially Cruyff, managed to change the game and make it the way it is now, and modern managers keep taking points and adapting from their expertise to create the new meta

@@ridakesserwan8712 Thank you. These kids forget football existed pre 2000's. Sacchi's zonal marking, offside usage and pressing had just as much influence on managers and teams around europe for example. spanning from the whole of the 90's to the early 00's, but fans of this sport suffer greatly from recency bias. Its sad hardly anyone has respect for the OG's

In a nutshell Guardiola wants his players to take the game to the opponent, A stop us if you can approach. That's daring. If it works, then 😂 a lot of defenders who aren't good in individual defending will be exposed.

I sense a relaxed vibe from Pep now he won everything with Man City. I got it that signal when Ederson began playing as centre back in preseason. So brave and bold he wouldn’t have got to where he is in game with out.

@@Saeroye Although I get your point, but it's hard for any of us to say he's relaxed, but by antecedents we know him to be an experimentist, I mean he experimented in the Chelsea final. My point being, complacency has seeped into Pep from time to time, & by virtue of things, he's gotten burnt too. Life is a marathon, a really long journey, let's see how things unfold.

So Pep figured out that playing the ball wide, so the winger can run forward to then turn his back to the opposition full back, and pass backwards so the player behind him can try again on the other wing, is not effective... genius. I mean... imagine carrying the ball forward. Mind-blowing.

It’s all to make up for haalands lack of involvement in build up. Compared to peps previous midfieldy formation where everyone’s involved they’re now essentially playing with 10 men so you need to dribble players and involve your keeper as much as possible to break the marking system and level the playing field because passing alone will leave haaland isolated and city outnumbered.

This is not new (technically), this is the heart of Johan Cruyff's philosophy. Cruyff believed everyone should be able to beat a player (then utilise the benefit) & Rinus Michels believe you should move the ball (and not take the risk). Benefit vs Risk Johan Cruyff vs Rinus Michels Pep Guardiola vs Van Gaal
