This is a great video. I went through so many differnt types of addiction in my life I can't even count them all bu the one that caused the most destruction was my gambling addiction. I lost every single thing I had including almost all of my relationships. Nothing else mattered to me as much as slot machines and lottery tickets and I won a lot of money. Knowing deep down I would lose it all sooner rather than later. My attempted suicides didn't even stop me. My last failure at suicide was what really forced me to look deeper into my soul and realize that I was going to die. I've been clean now for over twelve years and even now I get an urge once in a while to play just one more time but I've leaned to recognize my triggers and refuse to give them any power any longer. I walked through hell and I'm still here. As the saying goes "When you're going through hell, keep walking". Thank you for the work you do. This country needs it now more than ever before.

If the issue of gambling is not addressed nationwide, I predict in the next decade it will affect the economy more than the opioid crisis. I cannot thank you enough for shining a light on this. I appreciate you bringing on a female, recovering gambler, because I do believe that women may gamble for different reasons than men do and stay in the shadows more….. thank you 1 million times

Everything she said, I can relate to. 😢 I’m still in denial. I used to go in with 1k-2k per day and now I’m scared to use 100-200. A lot of times when I thought I was done, I would win a HUGE jackpot but nothing as big to recover my 80k I’ve lost. I met an addicted gambler who would come up to me and tell me to go home and to stop now before it gets too late. And my ego was like “he’s crazy, I’m not addicted” He also told me to be smart and make sure my bills are paid FIRST.

@@mjaydog1983 addiction sucks. But the good news is you can beat it - all it takes is 1. Admitting the problem exists (you’ve successfully done that ), 2. make a plan to beat it, 3. set a goal to achieve said plan, and 4. mental discipline to hold yourself accountable (hardest part). I’ve overcome my addictions by following the above steps and I’ve found that in order to achieve step 4 (mental discipline) I had to find a new addiction - but one that was healthy (both mentally and financially) and the new “addiction” that has taken up my time is going to the gym. Every time I get an urge to gamble or smoke I pack the gym bag. Eventually, routine sets in and those past demons become just distant memories. Best wishes on your journey 🙏

I work in a casino and we are taught that it is not our job to determine if someone has a gambling problem we are taught to report people who are acting disressed at our tables but not to directly say anything to them about addiction because we are not therapists. The only way the operators can realistically do anything is if the player asks for it usually them asking to sign out is the only time we are allowed to speak up.

Even the anticipation of a win can trigger it. I cut my debit cards in half and leave them at home. I take one or two credit cards so I can’t get into too much trouble.
