@@TheHoboShoestring You're doing great, man, one thing though just so you know - you can't control this, it's not really in your hands, youtube is not fair and they don't care about creators. I'm not a youtuber, I'm not mad, that's just what I've heard and seen. Here's the biggest thing to why you have up's and lulls: visibility. KZitem has to open that door. That's how I found you earlier today, I wasnt even logged, and I'm pretty much always logged in, but there you were on my homepage along with a grabbag of other videos that werent connected to each other. It apparently was random.I've now watched a few videos and subscribed. There's no way I ever find you otherwise, I didn't know anything about this and I never would have searched for it. It had to be put in my lap. Now I'm gonna tell you, don't let that drive you crazy because about the only way you can control that is if you're being promoted and they only do that for a couple reasons, one is if you're a big paying corporation that people wont watch otherwise, lets say the legacy media and news for example. The other way is if you know them or they like you for political reasons. This also explains why creators that gender-bend, men wearing makeup and dresses, or support leftwing/communist propaganda - do so well and why you'll see them on the homepage. Actually, one other way: if you're in government. They literally work hand in hand with the fed's, everyone knew that already but it's being proven to the few who didn't, because one of the few people who's rich and powerful that isn't apart of all that, bought one of these big tech social media platforms and has been exposing that - among other things. I don't think you can get on the gravy train with youtube unless you're in government or already have some big following of political minded people. I don't think you can become friends with them either, because they wont even talk with their creators. They don't answer questions, even in cases where they just ban you and remove your channel, even if you're a popular long time creator - you're just gone, and they tell you to not come back and they won't tell you why. I'll tell you why though, the best way to avoid that happening is to not cross that leftwing/communist narrative, just stay away from it man, honestly those American flags you have on your pack? Those can be a problem. I'm not gonna tell you to ever put old glory away, but I can tell you the truth about the nature of these silicon valley elites and their disdain for all things American, our history, culture, customs and traditions. If you turn those into rainbow flags or flags with fists in the air, you're fine, and maybe even promoted. It's hard to find yourself astray from all of this because it's not just political - if you have any "Americana" to you that could be a problem. Again, simplest way is to not go afoul of the narrative. Stick only to trains and your life and keep that as simple as possible, for example you can talk about other hobo's or homeless, just don't say why they are homeless unless it's alcohol and drug related, or a mental condition. Don't talk about them running afoul of living expenses, inflation, etc. I hope this helps. It's 100% real and I'm just a regular guy with no axe to pick, I've just seen it over and over and don't want that to happen to you. So I kind of focused on that, but again the original point was about the algorithmic help or personal intervening that can make a massive difference whether your videos are seen or not. There's only a few ways to get that, and no way to control, EXCEPT you can control yourself from being censored or banned. Even if they don't ban you they do what's called shadow-banning, meaning they wont ever promote your videos and they'll make them very hard for people to find, in some cases you can search the exact title or channel name and it won't return a correct result. Since you're not in the club, they're never going to do anything for you but that said, if you stay out of their way, you can also go unnoticed by them. Say one so-called controversial thing and it could put you smack on their radar. Usually it's by leftist's mass reporting your video. Don't say the slightest thing against about genders, politics, race (excluding white), the current administration/white house etc. Trains, buddy! I hope you understand what I'm trying to say, because you mentioned how your mind works, I know you're gonna be focused on how you get promoted or get in youtube's good graces, and you can ask any honest person you want, the answer is you cant. For an entirely random reason, you were put on the front page of someone who didn't have a youtube account - or wasnt logged in, and spoon fed to them. That's extremely rare, entirely random (unless you're a big advertiser), and it just is what it is. Don't try to chase that dragon. Keep on keeping on. Good luck!

Thanks for posting up the video! I was one of Stobe's subscribers. Enjoyed his videos, did his own music, he was a talented guy. I was saddened to learn what happened. Hopefully others will learn from that event. Security and rules started getting stricter in the mid 80's. I used to ride with the local crew on saturdays, learned lots about railroading then. Used to be able to go up into the interlocking towers back then too. Tower 55 in Ft Worth was one... Railroad employees were proud of their jobs, didn't mind showing outsiders their crafts. Now...too much liability to let anyone into their world. Too many damn lawyers. Be safe Mark. Watch your back.

What's happening is the breakdown of society. I don't trust dirty kids and glad I was brought up by old school riders and they told me to go on my way with respect. These dirty kids don't have any respect for anybody nor their self. I struggled with a methamphetamine addiction the majority of my time riding the rails. When I got sober I went back to riding and dirty kids assaulted me and stole my pack. (They got dealt with.) Now I stay away from other riders and make my own hop out spots. Be careful out there because people don't care about other people anymore.

Shoestring helped me when i first hit the road; meeting you showed me a good example of how a 'bo should conduct himself. Ill always have a lot of love for this true old school rider, a rare breed nowadays. I just discovered your youtube channel today even though i met and talked with you many times over my 8 years of travelling i never knew of this channel haha. God bless you, my friend. Safe travels

With me I live in a gilded cage. I do have good things, my daughters and gks my old truck and a decent job but the one thing I lack is wide open space. Escape from the treadmill. Every once in awhile I need to get out of the cage.

I’m new to your videos (3 days in) and didn’t know this KZitem community existed. Thanks for being genuine and true to your own happiness. It’s truly a lesson to me. Many folks think that money, power, status and success is the key to true personal happiness. The real ones like you and I know the truth.

Came across Mr. Shoestring a few days ago. I want to pay tribute and to say how sad I am to hear he passed. 😢 My father took to the rails in the 70's and 80's. Died 1988. Mr. Shoestring brought back memories in those days we didn't have technology then like we have today,so got to experience that life through Mr. Shoestring eyes ❤. Thanks.😢

You know what happened around 99, 2000 that really just ruined everything? Oxy's. A bunch of stuff got really different after that. I remember all my buddies right after high school were snatched up by that stuff. Killed a lot of them, did worse to others... Really caused a lot of damage around the midwest in general. I bet that wave wiped out a bunch of hobos too. RIP. First place i ever saw your name was in an old Stobe video, he found your tag under a bridge somewhere. Stay safe out there, dude. You're a valuable reservior of experience and you still probably will run into some folks who need to learn from you.

I was at a gas station in the summer of 2012 in omaha, and some random guy walks up and asks if I want to buy some pills. I was like, what do you mean, advil? tylenol? and he says, I got some hydros and some oxys. I said, "NO OFFICER! both of my parents carry a badge, and I'm not going to disappoint them."

Mid 90s to late 90s a lot of working class culture was wiped out; I don't think by drugs. For example I lived in some trailer parks in the 80s and 90s where everyone had money and some even owned companies. Now they're almost always full of addicts and exploited immigrants. New sub divisions full of timid and pretentious people are everywhere and people will actually call the cops on you for looking like you do labor.. I knew some people who did heavy drugs, but they were outspoken types and all have good jobs now..

Oxycodone when used by someone that isn’t prescribed it, or to get high off of it, can be a terribly addictive medication. I am prescribed it and it enables me to function with my intense pain. Without it, I would be bed ridden.

RC Amusement & Vending - even if you are prescribed it, and you've got an addictive personality, it's dangerous. My neighbor lost a son to chronic severe pain, coupled with a history of addiction and bad pain management.

I really felt this video. I rode trains for years and only stopped because of health problems. I miss it every day. I know exactly what you mean when you say you found your "frequency". It's the only thing I ever did that made me feel fully alive and well. Love your videos, good luck on your next ride.

Shoestring I love watching your videos and I love and envy your freedom. All though all of my travel was done while driving a big truck, I can relate to the way you feel. Minus the trips over seas for Uncle Sam, there’s a lot to be said about waking up in the morning not knowing where you’re going that day or what you’re going to see that day - It gets into your blood and never leaves. Wishing you safe travels.

You are genuine to me. One of my best friends, Joel Hokey, lived in his, self built shelter on the, Mississippi bank, for three years. He subsisted off the river, and scrapping. His Father used to hop trains and be gone for a month or two. I am sharing your videos with all I know... Much Love... David

I'm not sure how I came across your videos, but I'm glad I did. I really enjoy your adventures and explainations. It shows how one can really enjoy life in so many different ways, ways in which many of us may never get a chance to experience as we become futher indebted to societical norms.
