A lot of people are asking how I landed my internship: I landed the internship by applying to entry level / internships on LinkedIn. I searched for Salesforce intern. I didn’t wanna limit myself to the word admin since a lot of companies use variations of title for the same responsibilities. My resume during that time was focused on working in the lab / health care side. Luckily the company I interned for is focused on research. So I think I had experience in regards to knowing some context of the research world. I also made sure to connect w the hiring managers and message them to show that I really wanted the job. If you’re coming from a different field, which most of us are - I think there is a higher chance of landing an interview if you apply within the same industry. Let’s say you’re from finance, many financial companies also use Salesforce that aren’t Salesforce literate. So I would highlight my relatable skills in my resume and make sure to mention those as a summary when I message the hiring managers. Don’t be afraid to apply! Specially internships. They know you aren’t experienced and if they’re looking for interns, that means they have some willingness to mentor. My previous mentor, she wasn’t a Salesforce admin but she did know the basics using Salesforce as an end user. Most of the time I learned by practicing on sandbox, automations and actions I wanted to implement. Then uploading / redoing them on production so I get the hang of using the platform.

I have worked with salesforce tech consultants. Their quality and skills can vary a lot! 80% Indians, 19% White, 1% others imagine a scenario where there are - 100 Indian off shore, 100 whites, 100 other applicants 80 Indians, 19 whites, and 1 other applicant will become salesforce tech consultants. if you team get that 1 other applicant that person is going to possess the skill level of an indian 2-3 levels above him. It is insane.

This is the issue I have with SF certifications. They are supposed to be passed by people that actually have broad experience in working with Saleforce, but... getting a job without any Certs is really hard so it is a logical loop. What is more, the deeper you go, the harder certifications get and we you start working in the system even with Certs you are not able to perform very well. I would love employers to respect Superbadges rather than certs... Congrats on passing your exam and good luck with upcoming ones.

How many hours a week do you work? Do you ever work after hours or weekends? Unlimited PTO scares me because companies I have worked for that have unlimited PTO it ended up being an illusion. Those companies ended up being terrible to work for. How would you rate your unlimited PTO at this company? Are you able to work freely at your leisure?

great questions! I work 40 hours a week. I sometimes work after hours because I want to - not because it's ever required. My company is pretty flexible with our PTO.
