I worked for Sarah for 5 years. She came from nothing. To get in to Harvard Business School, She killed herself studying for the GRE for 2 years. She also killed herself studying in college. That is Sarah's "secret". Hard work. She is the most assiduous woman I've ever met. She is also one of the most generous people I've ever met. She paid for my entire family's health insurance when my husband lost his job and paid for my kid's soccer camp. The only thing bigger than her hustle is her heart.

And treats it like a positive sum game. Wealth is attracted to that. Nothing makes wealth melt away faster, than a corporation run by leadership that sees business as negative or neutral sum. It's positive sum. We continue to build infrastructure on top of previous infrastructure, and we continue to get more efficient. When we start sending ships into the cosmos (possibly after our lifespan), it's going to be the biggest economic revolution since the concept of the assembly line.

Thanks for this pod ep! As someone who grew up in section 8 and ended up finding relative success compounding career skills, it helps to hear stories like this. Now I’m in a position to transition into either creating or owning my own business. It definitely took time to figure out my possibilities. People from my environment have a tough time believing they are going to have enough gas week to week let alone getting a stable career. The idea of owning a successful business might as well be a lost language. Consistently reminding people that it’s possible and giving them a way to have proximity to these stories is truly valuable. Thanks!

Thoroughly enjoyed Sarah & your interview. A fellow HBS MBA, but significantly older (Class of ‘78), I could relate to her non-traditional HBS grad approach. When I graduated, I figured I needed to overcome my education & the best way to do that was to start my own business. Funny story, shortly after starting it decided I need to set up some accounting books. Sitting at a blank green ledger paper (before the advent of spreadsheets & personal computers, lol) it dawned on me I had NO IDEA how to set up the books. A graduate of that well-known Eastern business school & I was clueless. I could analyze any big business, but actually start/run a small business, had a long way to go. Just sat there laughing at myself. Again, great interview. Hope Sarah’s story inspires all sorts of new entrepreneurs!

bviously Sarah would have been successful eventually almost no matter where she found herself - after getting off her destructive path, but Harvard MBA is how she was able to close that deal. Her story is exceptional, and it's why she's getting this attention. Nevertheless her message that hard work wins, I believe, is right on. If you work hard and apply yourself, you can succeed. Also, her life experience put her on a more solid footing than potentially many of her Harvard classmates. She was very realistic and sure of what she wanted to purchase.

she got incredibly lucky with people willing to give her things for free. a home, a job, labor, debt leverage. she seems to have definitely hustled and overcame hardships, but even she would recognize that the underpinning theme to her story is luck. most people work hard and apply themselves. they will never succeed. they won't even ever get to live in a place like the US or EU.

WOW! This is awesome, especially after she gets into what she went through growing up. I immediately forwarded this to several people who could benefit from hearing this. Emotional!

I've been a KZitem watcher for years now and have never been a commenter... I feel compelled to say that this is by far my favorite channel on the platform. I finally feel like a found a community that shares my same attitudes about life, and as a 23 year old, aspiring MFMer who is starting my first business, I just want to say how much I appreciate the channel. Please keep it up!!!!

She shows how kindness, simplicity, effort, and hustle can create a meaningful impact. She motivates others to pursue big changes that only business can achieve to an even greater degree then attorneys, social workers, and bankers. Sarah, you are beautiful inside and out. Shaan’s cool too
