I only discovered this plant today. Caught it on clearance at my local blue store. Lowe's, not Wal-Mart. 😅 I'm so glad I found this video.

I need to water mine every 2 days, it's very big & puts out new leaves constantly! I have 30 different houseplants, no other plant I have needs to be watered that often haha. It lives in 38-45% humidity & 23c at the moment, thanks to my heating here in Sweden. I am considering a humidifier, mostly for my Lemon Lime Maranta, as I'm guessing that it & my Alocasia, Pink Princess & Wallichii will benefit from some humidity, as will my skin! So far they've all been doing great, but I'm guessing they'll eventually have issues from the low humidity.

It's so thirsty huh!! and yeah it sounds like you have plenty of plants that would benefit from a humidifier (and yourself ofc)!

My S. wallichii was gorgeous, but it went through a bout of spider mites--UGH--and is currently in recovery. I cut a lot of the leaves off, and I see new ones coming, so fingers crossed, it'll be reestablished to its former glory soon. The pronunciation of the first syllable, BTW, is /skiss/. It comes from the same root as schism and schizophrenia, meaning "split". So, since "glottis" refers to the throat and tongue, schismatoglottis means "cleaved tongue" or "split tongue".

I'm sure it'll bounce back quickly! and thanks for the pronunciation help! Makes sense why it's called drop tongue now

Emma your Wallichii is gorgeous!!! I'm tempted to get one for myself hehe. Now for an etymology lesson in the Greek language (my backgound is Greek and I taught it in high schools for a while 😉 'Scisma' means 'split' and 'glottis' comes from the Greek word for 'tongue'. So I would call it 'Split Tongue' rather than 'Drop Tongue' I guess it's referring to the line down the centre of the leaves.... Anyhoo, thanks for the info and hope the 'Borneo' produces many many more of those fabulous silver leaves. And is it just me or do you think the leaves resemble that of an Aglaonema?? Thanks for sharing your tips with us 👌🏼👏🏼And say hi to Cleo 😻

Thanks for another great video! This genus was new to me so it was fun to learn more. Happy to watch whatever planty content you'd like to make! With that said, I'd kill for a cactus and succulent cabinet tour/update. Succulents are my fav 🤗 and I've really been enjoying watching you get into them too

my silver borneo doesn't want to live normally, since I got is, it's not happy, it gave me flowers but then decided to die, I dont know how to revive it. The roots are ok but the leaves are droopy. maybe I should move it just to water

Mines likes to be about a metre from a south facing window. Like you said this is a thirsty plant and I keep it in high traffic place so I can keep an eye. This plant also hates a draught of any kind

Schismatoglottis fasciata is mislabeled as wallichi everywhere in horticulture, impressive feat bringing that smaller silver one back from nothing. I keep all of mine permanently in water trays for over 2 years now but I live in the tropics.

Its such a beautiful plant, i admire it every day 😅the pests not so much.. i have no found thrips and two different types of spidermites.. personally the spidermites freak me out more because thrips are dead with provanto. I am now religiously treating with alcohol spray on a daily basis. 😂 i feel like me versus the pests is like captain ahab and the whale .. dealing with 100 plants in a small space can be a challenge 😂😂😂
