I can't really say if I have insomnia or not since I didn't go to a doctor for diagnosis but all I know is that I'm having a difficulty in sleeping and this problem started in October. Now I can sleep and feel well rested but there are times It didn't go smoothly like there are days that falling asleep is hard and stuff but all I can say is that my sleep quality has improved a lot since I quit caffeine (I'm one month free) and started going ham on working out and sticking to a consistent sleep and waking schedule. If I were to compare my first week to now there's a big difference. The first week I had extreme anxiety and developed a fear of nighttime and I feared that I might not be able to sleep but thankfully I am able to get 4-5 hours of sleep during my first week with some cut offs as well. Even if it's painful and stuff I never gave up I had this mindset that as long as I had sleep it's okay it's better than no sleep at all. I also did workout everyday for one month and it is thanks to that and me sticking to a consistent sleep schedule that improved my sleep quality. I know this is far from over but as long as there's improvement in my sleep and what I feel overall I know I'll be just fine as long as I remain consistent, "Consistency is key to getting better" that's my motto in this condition I'm suffering from. Now, I'm able to fall asleep much faster now and my sleep still gets cut off but the hours in between the cut off are large and it only happens twice or once per night but yeah I will admit I do miss the feeling of falling asleep and sleeping normally but I have no choice I have to adapt and change and me having this sleep problem also served as a wake up call for me to change my lifestyle because back then I was just in my room all day drawing and stuff from morning til night with a disgusting sleep schedule and mix it with my enormous caffeine intake so yeah in a way I did abuse my body for the sake of my passion in the arts so this is what I get and it is up to me to fix my body and adapt. Recovery from this will take time and it could take months or a year but as long as I remain consistent and improving I'll be fine and I hope to others who is also having difficulty sleeping I hope my one month journey story help you.

Read 'Why We Sleep' by Matthew Walker. I can't recommend it enough. He's been a sleep scientist for decades and goes into great detail about circadian rhythms (and why some of us are naturally night owls), sleep cycles, how much sleep we need (and why it's so bad for your long term health to not get enough), how our brain works while we sleep and loads more. It's all science-based and incredibly interesting. It's really made me prioritise sleep over anything as it affects every single thing in your life. It's probably the best health related book I've ever read and being chronically ill I read a lot of them! It's a must read!

I had the same problem, the blue blocking glasses helped somewhat but what 'cured' it is following a ketogenic diet (at least after the initial adaptation phase which was worse). Of course if I don't follow my diet faithfully it comes back so it's not really cured, its managed.

@@Nowlala There are a lot better people out there to tell you about keto than me. I'll give you some suggestions. It is a high fat, low carb and moderate protein diet, not to be confused with a high protein diet which is different. Keto can be done from vegan to carnivore and everything in between, but it's more difficult to do without animal products. It has a lot of science behind it for epilepsy, diabetes but there is also emerging science around other neurological conditions, mental illnesses and cancer too. Diet Doctor website and KZitem channel has a nice level of science an 'how to' that is very easy to understand and follow. Their website has a lot of recipes on to get you started. If you like the science I would recommend Low Carb Down Under and Public Health Collaboration on KZitem. They can be helpful if you want to combat the objections you'll encounter with regards to a high fat diet, but they can get a bit heavy but worth it if you don't mind that sort of thing. If you want a more down to earth less science heavy view of how to follow a ketogenic diet KenDBerryMD channel is very helpful. Be careful there is a lot of rubbish information around keto out there that will make life difficult and complicated and not get you the results you want. The channels I gave you above are all very good and based on the existing science even if they don't go into it in detail. Just be warned, if you suffer from insomnia I would slowly reduce the amount of carbs you eat if you can (some find it much easier to just stop) rather than jumping all in as some people feel pretty awful (physically and emotionally) and experience worse insomnia in the first couple of weeks as their body gets used to the change in fuel. Not everyone experiences it but a lot do.

I'm very much like you and have always been. I'm having trouble when I go to bed at 10 pm though, I'll often wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning unable to go back to sleep. Then, if I can, I'll get a 2 or 3 hour nap and that will increase my insomnia problem. My sleep doctor just thinks I'm not disciplined about going to bed every night at the same time and getting up at the same time. Oh and don't use any caffeine to help stay awake. That can be dangerous I get so sleepy. Thank you for this video. I do have a full spectrum light, it's so bright I noticed my sight had those spots like when you accidentally look at the sun. You can link an Apple watch to the sleep app you found. It will feed your heart rate to the app. Look under support. In a totally non-related subject, where did you get your office lamp? I want a tree style floor lamp, and I can't find anything I like more than your lamp. It's perfect.

Mines better, but I'm still learning and I'm not familiar with those apps, but my MD tested my genetic pathway. Cough medicine snyped my serratonin DNA. I haven't had flus since my early 20s and virtually no colds, but I do have to be careful about a few things, kombucha, probiotics, some fruits or combos near bedtime, stress. Typical stuff. I stay clear of upsetting movies or TV shows, better a documentary early. Usually I sleep like a baby now.

If you are looking for a doctor's perspective on this subject, then Doctor Avinesh Bhar would be interested in doing an interview/video with you. The full spectrum late isn't practical. I've researched into it before, and if you look on the box or even the description of the amazon listing you'll see that in order to achieve any benefit the light has to be at maximum 20inch from your eyes. Ideally 6inches from your eyes. You've got it like 3 feet from your eyes. Which is where I would prefer to have it but all these brands make it clear it has little effect that far away. I work with a guy who uses it and it's way to bright for my taste, and to have it that close. May provide a placebo effect but not worth it for me
