Sir it is very stimulating to listen to a experienced DP like you talk about your process. (How important it was for you to understand the character and the smallest detail like it would be winter when they attacked). I am currently in a film school and we do get to work with HMIs and other such lights but watching your videos is a great tutorial about how to use the tools at our disposal and think like a DP. I am so glad that a experienced DP like you decided to start a youtube channel! Sometimes one can lose sight of what got them into filmmaking, but such videos reminds me why I wanted to get into it! Thanks! Would love to see more videos about your process of choosing a particular camera or set of lenses, and concepts like composition, staging and blocking and camera movements!

Every video is a master class sir! And this one stresses the importance of interpreting a scene from a DP's point of view and how important it is to read fiction and understand history and literature for a cinematographer which majority of them overlook. Aesthetics over technicalities always!

@@OkCKmedia I did have one question. Was there any reason you avoided using a more parallel beam source of light output such as a Molebeam instead of the HMIs with a divergent beam?
@OkCKmedia
2 ай бұрын
I have used molebeam for a similar work in MOHENJO DARO. (I will be writing about it later). Right now I don’t remember the reason for not using them. I think we didn’t get enough number of lights then.

An excellent breakdown! Would love to know your thoughts about the composition of a camera team in the Indian film industry. I know the role definitions are quite different when compared to the Hollywood system. The key example is the role of the 1st AC (Chief) being responsible for forward lighting setups rather than pulling focus. Would appreciate your views on this, thank you!
@OkCKmedia

Hi, my basic team comprises of three people. 1st AC, who handles lighting along with Gaffer and his team. 2nd AC, supports the 1st AC and the team. Focus puller. Apart from pulling focus he is incharge of EQUIPMENTS both in camera and GRIP department. As the set up gets bigger, we hire more people like a second unit and his team.

Great work CK sir. Hats off to u sir. Your detailed explanation of your step by step execution process from your mind to the floor is awesome. I have a question because me being a Cinematographer, i am very keen for this answer from you sir. The question is what prevented you from using Arri Orbiter light, that would have made your work lot more easier, i believe so , but i may be wrong. Is it that you found it non compliable or for what reason? I am very keen to know your answer on your choice sir. Pls enlighten me sir.

And, even if I had that light, there are issues with it. 1. If I use the light without a mirror, the light beam will look like a divergent beam. The top of the beam will be much smaller in width and a window pasted in vfx will not match with it. I needed the beam to have same width throughout its path to give the feel of a parallel Sun beam. 2. If I use a mirror, by the time it reaches the floor, it would be very weak.
