We DO use standardized tests and I see it as a reflection of my teaching rather than my child's ability to perform. It allows me to fill in the gaps so I don't miss anything. I sit next to my daughter as she tests and I take notes on things we have not covered. I want my homeschooled children to finish school intellectually as if they have been through public school and morally as if they have been homeschooled! Thanks for sharing your videos! I appreciate how you shine your light for Jesus!

Totally agree with the standardized test. “Teaching” kids so they do well on a test that determines funding for public schools in NOT teaching. Israel Wayne has a book called “Education: Does God have an Opinion?” Such a great read and put so much into perspective about public schools and the difference of schooling vs an actual education. Got it from Masterbooks, in case anyone wants to check it out!

We have done standardized testing every year for the past four years of homeschooling and all I have to say, is even if your state doesn't require it, do it. At least once. My family, was so worried when I started homeschooling my daughters four years ago that they would "fall behind" or not learn what they should. Now thanks to testing each year no one would dream of saying send them back to school and quite a few members of my family have started homeschooling their children as well. Last year my then 6th graders scored a GE (grade equivalent) on the Terra Nova test in science 12.9, in math 9.6 and so on. I encourage all my friends to just "try" the standardized test once for encouragement if they need it, or to prove to themselves that their children are learning. It helped me so much my first year.

As a teacher dual certified with a master in education, I can assure you that those indoctrinated political scams of government funds going to corporations aka grade equivalency tests really are a false sense of security and a waste of time. I spent years made to teach those tests- teaching from curriculums designed BY those tests makers and what a complete waste of everyone's time. Horrible. I've known plenty of fantastic test takers fail out of college- zero common sense too and others who were unschoolers easily go on to a ivy league school. It's the same as purchasing an accredited curriculum. Means nothing at the end of the day but parents insist on it bc it's a illusion of of security n accountability. Honestly, save your $. Go on a field trip instead and people, listen to Ashlee.

Yes! I've been eagerly awaiting this video. 😄 We live in a state that requires testing or evaluating every year starting in first grade. I also agree...teaching to a test is ridiculous and frankly go against a lot of why we homeschool from an educational purpose. We love exploring topics that interest us, and being held back or limited because we have to teach to tests makes no sense. Thanks for once again bringing truth and strong conviction! You continue to encourage me along this journey.

Totally agree with your opinion of Standardized Testing! My oldest & youngest daughter’s are not great test takers! Their test scores in NO WAY represents their understanding of concepts and the depth of their knowledge! My oldest 3 children (now adults) went to Public School. I am now homeschooling my youngest who just turned 13! In hind sight, I wish I would have homeschooled ALL of my children! We are enjoying our first year of homeschooling throughout all of the ups and even in the down moments! Your channel has helped me in so many ways! Thank you, Ashlee!

We are not required to do testing, but have done it in the past. It's just for us and remind our kiddos that it in no way reflects their hardwork nor education capabilities. Yes they are there to learn, but to gain knowledge for their own benefit, not for someone else. When the time comes for testing for high school and college requirements, there are routes to take. But in the meantime, as you stated, I'm right there with them and can see how and what they are learning.

State text requires every 3 years but I don’t agree with it, but totally agree with learning how to take a test because many jobs require annual test, college, etc.

You have helped me by watching your video on scheduling. It helped the process I went through deciding to start planning on a yearly basis, starting in January, ending in December. I have a holiday period that floats, it not the same days every year, this change makes seeing the big picture so much easier for me to plan year by year Thank you Ashley. Sometimes ppl like me just need the confidence to make a decision, or need to hear what other ppl do and hear their reasons for it, and that helps in a decision making process.

We as a homeschool community together with our legal representatives are currently fighting a Bill our government in South Africa is trying to pass which will mandate standardised testing. We currently do not need to do any testing accept in our final year of school for college acceptance. Please pray for us. We are in the final phase of this legal battle.🙏🏼

Unfortunately we live in a state that does require a standardized test every other year from grades 4-8 and then every year in high school. That being said, I 1,000,000% agree with your sentiments on the subject and that's why what we learn is still based on the kids' interests, and not what might be on a test.

I was disappointed that my state requires standardized testing in grades 3, 5, and 8. However, once I did it with my oldest child, I realized it wasn't a terrible thing! My husband administers the tests, and he buys doughnuts. The kids have loved this special time. We put zero pressure on them because we know the tests don't give the big picture of their learning.

We do the CAT test. I find it helpful to see if there are any areas we need to focus on more for the next year. We do the untimed. One year my son scored way above average for reading comprehension but a little low in math so the next school year I cut out our reading comprehension workbook and we did math games during the time instead. So I think tests can be useful.

We don't have to test in my state and we don't test at all in homeschooling. Either they know the information or they don't. If they do we move on and if they don't we stay on that subject a little longer till they know. My daughter just got her license with no problems taking the test. She studied the online course till she knew the information. They have practice testing on the online course.

We too are not required to test in our state. In fact one of the reasons we started to homeschool was how much I hated testing when I was in school. But I decided to sign them up for testing in spring 2020 at our homeschool resource center so they would get that experience. And if course 2020. They did go ahead and have the testing in May and thankfully they were face friendly. My kids all did really well but I wonder if they were compared to an average of past years or just 2020.

I get this question all the time and my answer is always “I don’t!” We have the option in WA to do an assessment rather than a standardized test and except for one year (where the results were exactly what I knew they’d be) that’s what we do. I’d rather show what we actually studied than take a test designed to show what you got wrong from a list of questions that are often dated or pushing an agenda.

I would love to hear your thoughts on “finishing school early”. What I mean is if you have a “senior” in highschool and they finish their year but they’re only 16..would you have them get their GED and finish homeschooling or start into higher up levels? I ask because we’ve been homeschooling our young boys for two years and I can already see how quickly homeschooling moves compared to public school. They’re both light years ahead of their peers of the same age. Clearly I’m a planner and thinking very far ahead 🤣 a video or if you have a simple response would be great ❤️

If you have students that are 16 or 17 and you choose to graduate them early from high school with a diploma, you can consider online college level course work or allow them to do dual enrollment locally without officially graduating them from your homeschool to allow them to focus and take advantage of the dual enrollment opportunities while under your roof. You can also have them do an internship or trade school or work. You can do a missions trip or a combo of all these. I know of many parents who choose to have their kids do a super senior year, extended jr year, or a 13th year or gap year because maturity and preparations for the world/college spiritually, emotionally, or mentally they are not as ready as academics. Or they and their kids want to continue in their passions/interest of sports or speech and debate or they want their kids to travel with them for a year or take more worldview and advance lab sciences or theatre or electives or learn basic life skills, or need more math time. I hope this helps you some. I would just encourage you to look at the bigger picture and your individual child as a whole person with your, and their goals in mind, along with overall maturity, as so much evil and darkness and responsibility face them and us in colleges, workplaces, etc. We have dear friends that have lost their kid to suicide in college. And one who had a mental and emotional breakdown because even though both families had academic excellence and full rides they now realize their kids weren’t ready in other aspects.

I hate standardized testing!! The only way to get around it in my state, MN, you have to be accredited which costs $450 a year. We gladly pay that, though, because I don’t want to have to deal with the headache of scheduling and executing standardized tests! Also, do you have any get it all done with me videos planned soon? I could use some motivation!

It took over 4 minutes for her to get to the point. Not a good video. I really didn't care about her opinions. My state requires standardized tests and I need more information on that. Wish some of these homeschool parents would get to point versus repetitiously repeating useless opinions. She uses some Christian site, which I would avoid. Where are the tests for regular people not looking toward a religious component?
