Let's wait for all the comments saying, brake pads are cheap and should replace them! Just for context, I made this video during the COVID lockdowns, where it is so difficult to find parts. I just bought this bike and I just want to ride it. It's been more than a year, and I am still riding with the same set of brake pads. So hope this helps, because I looked at several videos and this is what worked. Thanks for watching.

You say it as if it was just pouring water on the pads and rotors then you're good to go when in reality if you do this with regular soap you'll become part of the asphalt or trail that you're riding in. It's important to use the apropriate products and ensure that everything is resurfaced and decontaminated (not "cleaned") properly. One thing that's bad about this short is that he doesn't say what grit he used, wich is important because if you go too coarse you'll damage your rotors, and if you go too fine you'll polish the surface and the pads won't bite properly anymore, meaning that there's not enough friction for them to heat up and deposit the coat on the rotors that actually grips the pads (wich is the reason why pads need to be beded in)

1. Find a steep hill 2. Roll down applying brakes until they fade and a bit more The heat will burn off contaminants and your brakes will be good as new when they cooled down. Tip: Only do one brake at a time so you can stop using the other.

@Ferrari255GTO

From my personal experience, that is a TERRIBLE idea, it has worked for me to do it over a prolonged period of time but it's almost impossible to do that in a singular run. If your brakes heat up enough to do that in a singular go you need larger rotors ASAP before brake fade straight up MURDERS you, because if you're unprepared it will. Please do not take brake health lightly.

@@rupanjolikakoty3103 yeah but took a couple of tries for it to bite properly. Now that supplies are back to normal, I would just buy new one. And honestly I hope I don’t have to deal with this ever again, or if I buy a trash bike I just replace the brake pads straight away 😅

@@RidesWithJake Yeah, contamination is nasty. I'm currently having it on front from some kind of soap after washing the bike last week. Heated the rotor, rubbed with sand paper and IPA. I installed new pads. Still lacking the same bite I had previously.

So a how to video on how to make chlorine gas then? Never heat up brake cleaner especially chlorinated brake cleaner unless you want to suffer a painful death. It fast dries on its own for a reason.

Noted thanks, the pads were dried overnight before heated.

Nah just keep it that way. It doubles as a horn. It's like saying "I dedicate this brake to you" to the idiot who caused it. You can add eye contact to increase the intensity of the message.

Or just buy new pads for 5-10 bucks, not worth all that work tbh
