27 year old diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo a double mastectomy
*****************
Alyssa was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer at the age of 27 on 11/30/12. She underwent a radical double mastectomy on 12/21/12. She was diagnosed with a highly aggressive DCIS that turned into invasive breast cancer. Along with the DCIS, paget's disease formed and a lesion on her chest wall.
She found out on 1/1/13 the cancer spread to her lymph nodes and total lymphadenectomy (removal of lymph nodes) of her axilla (underarm) nodes on 1/15/13. She had 6 rounds of chemo (Carboplatin and Taxotere).
She was HER2 POSITIVE and also had to receive 22 injections of herceptin. HER2-positive breast cancer is a breast cancer that tests positive for a protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), which promotes the growth of cancer cells. In about 1 of every 5 breast cancers have a gene mutation that makes an excess of the HER2 protein.
On 1/17/15 she had a total hysterectomy because of abnormal tests. She has been documenting each step as she fought cancer and continues to survive. Her mission is to inform the world on what to look for, how to stay strong and to not be afraid through her difficult journey. This can be won! Early detection is the best protection!! Alyssa has a huge batch of supporters including family and friends, her two young children and husband.
