Everything you stated here is exactly what I did and is reason why I have a 4.0 now in my smp. I feel like we are the same, because I definitely lived my life in undergraduate.

Hi Doc Sam, it's me again! I got accepted into Tulane's Master's programs and a few others, but I'm still undecided bc I want to attend here, but I'm also nervous about taking this next step bc it is expensive lol. Are the classes mandatory to attend and are they set up like semesters or is it that "weird" med school-like schedule where the classes start at different dates & times? Thank you so much for answering all my questions and responding! I know you're extremely busy and I definitely have your video/channel saved and continue to watch it as a reminder! Hope med school is going well!

Would you recommend an SMP or just a master’s degree/program if the end goal is med school?

Hi Doc Sam!! Hope med school is treating you well! I recently got accepted to Tulane’s Master’s program & had questions lol. I know you’re super busy but when u have time, will u please let me know how u funded ur living expenses during SMP? How did u study during SMP or made time for it aside from the graduate courses? Thank you so much!!

Student loans unfortunately :( and really I would just set aside time for each class daily. The course load + studying for the MCAT simultaneously is a good prep for med school now (in retrospect finishing year 2 of med school)

Hi Sam, I’m interested in the Tulane microbio amp that you attended and was curious if you did the thesis or non-thesis track and which you recommend. Also I was hoping I could ask u a few Qs about ur SMP, can I dm you? Love all the content you’ve been putting out, thanks!

Hey thanks so much for posting this. Do you mind explaining how you chose Tulane's SMP program and how the application process works (do you apply while you're taking the SMP, or after finishing it?)
@samuelsmithmed214
4 жыл бұрын
You can apply before or after, all depends on your MCAT score. And the application is relatively simple just go to the program you would like and apply directly on the site.

Samuel Smith Med Thanks! Sorry, I meant for the med school application cycle when do you apply if you’re doing an SMP? During/after?
@samuelsmithmed214
4 жыл бұрын
@@ritikakumar5008 Yeah so it really does depend on your MCAT going into the SMP. I had 2 friends who had "good" MCAT scores 505-510ish range who applied during that same cycle as we were taking the SMP. I had to take a gap year however, because my MCAT score was low entering the program. So during that gap year I took the MCAT again and applied the following fall (last fall)

Did you have professors that would lecture and show stuff but totally different on the exams?
@samuelsmithmed214

Depends on the class. A good skill to develop is to know what is testable, clinically relevant, and things that won't show up on the test.

@@samuelsmithmed214 thank you I failed a genetics exam bc I felt like her stuff didn’t prep me, 2/3 of the class failed both exams... then again I have As in my other courses... not sure if it’s a personal issue or lecture issue I’m undergraduate btw.

Hi I am back lol! I just applied to some of Tulane's Master's programs and remembered you/your helpful channel! Do you feel that the students in class were collaborative or did it feel like undergrad where a lot of students/classes are cutthroat, only looking out for their own interests? Thank you and hope med school is going well!
@samuelsmithmed214
2 жыл бұрын
Yes I felt like everybody was collaborative (22 in my class), we had a great group though so small sample size. I think 10-12 of us ended up in med school and 5-6 PHDs. Honestly I feel like there's much more cutthroat/gunners in medical school then in my SMP.

I know this is super late but my stats are really similar to yours. Can you talk about the processes of filtering out SMPs and why Tulane specifically? I’m out of state If not, would it be okay to shoot you a DM?

I couldn't tell you why I picked Tulane, I just looked up the program and read the statistics of people getting into med school after it; and it seemed to fit my interests. If you have any more questions lmk man!
