For everyone looking at only her SAT/ACT and saying that her race is the sole reason she got in, you are ignoring the fact that holistic admissions takes into account more than just standardized tests. There are many Asian/white students on KZitem itself that get into these schools with similar scores, and Hispanic/African American people with top test scores that don't get in. Without knowing her full background it's unfair to say that her race was the only factor than got her in. If you want college admissions to be based solely on test scores, look at the IITJEE system in India. Also, congratulations on getting into such great colleges.

The comment section is filled with people who honestly want to undermine this young girl's hard work by calling out affirmative action. I'm sick and tired of people shooting out affirmative action every time a person of color gets accepted into an Ivy League school. It's disgusting for people to have a mindset that they deserve a spot just because they studied hard and got a perfect score on an exam that if anyone takes a 100 times, they would be able to master as well. Well newsflash, no one deserves anything,people earn it, and some people might have struggled more than you faced different obstacles that you met or just been a little bit more genuine in their college essay rather than being a carbon copy of their one friend or cousin that got into an Ivy League or Ivy Tier University. It's time for people to wake up. Affirmative Action was put in place to provide equal access to education for those groups that have been historically excluded or underrepresented, such as women and minorities, and while it's not perfect, it indeed isn't a system that just takes "anyone who's a minority over a seemingly overqualified candidate." Let's be clear, Blacks and Hispanics don't have an overwhelming number of students apply to top-tier schools as their White and Asian counterparts do, and as a result, there is still a significant lack of representation in every school that isn't a historically black college. This by no chance means that schools will accept people who are below average or fit their criteria, they recognize people who are the right fight for their schools believe it or not. Sorry for a tangent this topic hits a particular nerve.

To all the racist, ignorant people who are about to argue affirmative action: This girl worked hard to get into these schools. She does not deserve to have her hard work belittled by people who could never get into a prestigious university and instead write hate comments on a student's KZitem video. Standardized tests scores mean almost nothing in college admissions after a certain point: 1400+ Schools want students who are going to make change in this world, instead of solely students who are just going to study for exams. Your mentality towards what universities value is exactly the reason why you will never be accepted to a top tier university. you believe a test is the metric for a person's success and it is simply is not. The SAT will not measure her motivation, work ethic, and talent. Furthermore, this girl took time our of her day to help students with their college applications, so go elsewhere because your racist, rude, ignorant comments will not be tolerated here.

I think the thing you ignorant fools are forgetting is that the majority of these people that get 1500+ on the SAT use tutors and have the monetary means to get external help to prepare. Getting into an Ivy League school is not a meritocracy, the majority of people who go to Ivy League schools are wealthy, if that sounds like a meritocracy to you then you’re mistaken. She had a 5.5 gpa and was in the highest percentile in her school. And her SAT score is in the 97 percentile for both standardized tests. She is not inferior, she is in the range to get into these schools. If you really cared about this perfectly crafted meritocracy you should be going after these athletes with 3.5 gpa’s and these legacy students. Also, IB is hard af and is recognized as being the most challenging academic program in the public school system, and I bet you she’s going to excel while she’s in college. So go after her if you want but in the end y’all that are complaining probably couldn’t do half as much as her.

And through saying that I'm not saying she's not intelligent because of course she is, im just saying her scores don't match up to the kids that worked equally as hard as her- that are white and at a wealth/opportunity disadvantage.

The problem is that there are people who do all that and more. A 1420 SAT and being 5th in your class is impressive until you're going against the best students in the country who have a 1550 SAT, are #1 in their class, and have international awards, yet still get rejected. She was undoubtedly in the bottom of the people who did get accepted. Listen, I'm not trying to condemn her for getting in because of Affirmative Action, because to be honest I don't care. Anyone trying to blame her for what they don't like about the system is stupid. But to act as though she would have gotten in had she not been a URM is denying reality, coming from a hispanic person.
@daemic1868

@@giannigiovful Ive seen plenty of videos of people with similar stats to her that also got in though and they weren't an urm. When it comes to these schools they dont want you to do everything because when you do everything you're good at nothing. Yea there were people with higher scores then her but you should also consider that some resources provided to some aren't provided to all. If someone had access to tutoring they will definitely dp better in their classes vs someone who didn't. If someone had access to piano lessons since birth they will be better than someone that couldn't. What you see in a lot of urm communities is the lack of resources. I went to a school where we had the same textbooks for years bec the schools couldn't afford new ones. Meanwhile ik kids at private school who said their schools did grade inflation to please the parents. At the end of the day this whole process is based on luck. Yea there were people better then her but maybe officers felt she had more potential to grow then them. Regardless its unfair that someone can work hard their entire highschool years and get told they only got in because of affirmative action. Because at the end of the day if it was that easy for urm to get into a good college we wouldn't even need affirmative action in the first place.

Hey, I'm going into my sophomore year and I also live in Florida. I know about the whole bright futures scholarship thing and getting an AICE diploma would get me a bright future's scholarship. For me to complete the diploma, I would have to take AICE classes instead of AP classes because there wouldn't be enough room in my schedule to take both. Bright futures is only for Florida universities and I'm not entirely sure if I'm really planning on going to an in-state uni. So I'm sort of stuck between getting my AICE diploma for a Florida uni scholarship, although that would limit the AP classes I can take at my school and I could possibly end up going to an out-of-state uni, or I just take the AP classes available, look for other scholarships, and not get my AICE diploma. I could possibly look into doing an AP class at home but idk if I'm right for that. Also, if I got my AICE diploma and decided to apply to out-of-state universities, would the diploma still look good as a stat even if the classes wouldn't count as college credit or a scholarship? Thanks.

Unless you’re sure you can do really good in all IB classes, which includes IA’s, long exams, FOA’s, extended essay and various presentations. If you’re a stem student it’d be better that you filled you class with IB/AP sciences and maths, IB Diploma is more for humanities and focuses on philosophy of things. It's honestly not such a bad thing to just admit that if you are Hispanic/Black/Native American, you have a higher chance of getting into some of these schools with maybe slightly lower scores. Just pretending like this "trend" doesn't exist at all makes it unfair for the extra efforts Asian students would need put in to get into some of these colleges. I understand that 1.)college admissions are holistic 2.) Affirmative action is meant to address systemic issues that minority students face. , but we should at least not pretend like affirmative action is not even a thing. However, congrats on getting into all these schools and you clearly deserve it.

@@alyssaharris4013 Hm, that's not true. Studies indicate that Asians actually tend to outperform the expectations of their economic class by far, so you do find a lot of lower-middle class Asians in top schools. I agree that economic status matters - but it should be taken into account regardless of race. Why should a trustfund kid get into a good college(without the best grades to back it up) just because of his race? Harvard's African American population is predominantly composed of rich kids. How is that helping the black community tackle systemic racism? If anything, I would be all for making affirmative action an economics-based policy rather than a race based policy. I think it would go far in closing up the racial divide without any unfortunate collaterals(i.e. East Asians, Indians).

Julius Weinberg no I’m not saying that but she obviously is smart I have to study hours on days end to pull off 1200’s so give her some credit. She obviously got in bc of how high she scored not just purely based off of race

@@wrendees3648 I'm sure she is smart, especially compared to you. But do you also agree that the affirmative action benefit her given those scores she mentioned and types of schools she got in?

What are your scores looking like then? Please understand she also did AP and IB with a good GPA her getting in was all her. College understand the effort and dedication it takes to do those things.

When she talked about not having to do a disclaimer if she was any other race... literally everybody on KZitem does disclaimers before videos that might take offense to people. Don’t make yourself sound special or try to get people to feel bad. Race has nothing to do with it.

Gabriella Carter what do you even mean? Like this is actually funny to hear that you think that black people are the ONLY people that have to make a disclaimer on KZitem. That no other race has EVER had to make a disclaimer because they aren’t black. It’s really funny to see the immaturity. But in all honestly, besides that one remark that didn’t have any relation to the topic, you are really intelligent and it is so impressive to see everything that you went through to get to where you are. You are obviously someone that works really hard and deserves for your work to pay off. Congrats.
