I have been using henna for probably 4 or 5 years. I’m a natural red/auburn haired person. I was always called a redhead, but now I have white hairs which drives me nuts so I use henna. I actually put it on my damp hair and that works very well, because otherwise my hair is too dry since it’s coarse and wavy/curly. I don’t usually wait to put it on. I mix it with some coffee and filtered water, a couple tsp. apple cider vinegar with “the mother” and that’s it. I cover my hair with a plastic shopping bag to keep it moist and use an alligator clip to close it behind my head. I typically leave it in 2 hours, some times more but not longer than 3. I wash out with conditioner, then don’t wash again for 4 to 5 days. It will run slightly each time you wash it. If you have gray or white, it needs to be done once a month usually. Don’t make it runny. It should be thick but smooth, it may drip a bit, just wipe with a paper towel. I use natural red by the Henna Guys, but today I’m using auburn mixed with natural red which makes me nervous. My hair looks more red than hers, because it’s my natural color. Either way, people compliment it. If you have normally straight, non frizzy hair, it will stay like that. If you have my texture, you’ll still need products that fight frizz. It doesn’t take it away. I do feel like the products I use shorten the life of the henna, but I don’t want frizzy hair. If you use it for a while, you’ll get the hang of it. I forgot to mention that I use gloves and just slap some on each section and only do the roots. I’ve only ever done the whole head once. Use a comb with a tail to section hair. Don’t mix in metal bowls. Use glass and a spatula. That’s about all I can offer anyone from my own experience. Good luck!

Great video. I will say that henna doesn't HAVE to be an all day thing. I have been using henna for a decade. I make a year's worth of henna at a time and package and freeze it. Every third Friday when I leave for work I pop a frozen batch in the fridge to thaw. In the evening when I get home I shower and wash my hair. Apply henna to my roots, wrap in plastic. Then I have dinner and watch a movie. After two hours I rinse, condition and then brow dry. My hair grows so fast and I am so gray I have to do it every three weeks. So I have it down pat.

Wow, it looks so much easier to do this with shorter hair! Mine is butt-length. I managed to get henna on the ceiling.... I actually used the plastic cover included in the Light Mountain package (light red) this last time instead of plastic wrap, and it is MUCH better and no drips! I pulled the slack to the front of my forehead, twisted it up like a towel turban, and secured it with a claw clip. It kept everything in place.

@@edoboleyn I hennaed my hair for about 2 years I think? I would absolutely recommend it. I stopped using henna only because my grey was coming in in cool witchy streaks, and it grows too fast to keep up with the roots with such obvious greys, so I just decided to go grey. But I love henna. It is labor-intensive but worth it in my opinion.

The most perfect video about henna .. Thank u .. U r awesome with every way.. But only one thing as an half arabian and we r so so used to henna as a traditional .. Just ii know that it will b so hard to let it dry on head on air instead u cover it up .. But actually this is the right original way to let it be uncovered .. Henna it doesn't work as hair dye about heating although the chemical hair dye happens with oxidation process need to be done on air too .. Just henna is still a grass .. Let it dry uncovered will stain stronger and deeper watery don't achive stable color in henna.. Exactly as the drawing on skin with henna if u just leave it dry on air will works and if it still wet on skin it won't stick and will fade for sure .. And don't b afraid how harder it will be .. But it will b washed anyway .. Just patient anyway the whole henna taking 4 to 5 days to be perfectly done .. Just make them more six .. Not big deal 😆👯

Great video, finally all the information I needed! I have brown hair (a bit dark) and I am thinking of henna, but I am very worried that it will turn really red and I dont want that! I am aiming for exactly the color you have! I bought completely natural henna (red) and the instructions say use only lemon and leave the mix for 10 to 24 hours! And then exactly the process you did. So I am a bit confused on what to follow, and what to avoid if I dont way too red results

I used Lush when I first started applying henna to my hair and I think a regular old henna powder like Light Mountain makes a much more vibrant color.

I've used light mountain red. I have dark brown hair with some bleached parts and it came out like an orange copper color.

So I have a question. I just bought this and can’t wait to use it. How ever reading the instructions it says “light mountain DOES NOT NEED TO CURE. (In bold) and should be used once it cools” And to absolutely not leave it in overnight. Says no longer than 4 hours. What are your thoughts? I keep hearing different things from peoples videos but everyone says follow instructions to a T also?

In my experience, henna is a permanent color.

I always thought the henna had to be hot-ish when applied. Is that true? Does anyone know? In this video it seems like the henna would have cooled off almost completely by the time it was applied. Thanks in advance for your input.

I think it's better applied when it's hot. So just keep boiling water in small henna amount

Shampoo wont strip the colour, henna is a stain. It will just strip the hair and dry it out. Henna should be washed out with water, conditioner and a condition bowl ( soak your head in a little conditioner and water in a bucket )

This was Light Mountain Red. Sometimes I also use "bright red."
