I have some reflections on learning vocabulary using tools like Anki. It’s a huge challenge for a complete beginner since they know nothing at the start. Of course, you can learn word by word using associations, but what about example sentences? Suddenly, it turns out that you’re not learning just one word but, for example, six, which dramatically slows down the whole process. Currently, I’m learning German, and the word endings are difficult for me because instead of learning one word, I need to learn more. Another aspect is that it’s not easy to find materials with comprehensible input when you don’t know much. Additionally, I’d like to address studying using AI. Unfortunately, I have the impression that it still makes a lot of mistakes, so how can I trust it? My solution is to buy books with very short dialogues and audio files, but there’s a drawback to that because these aren’t my own sentences. Another useful solution is finding easy KZitem videos and using AI to translate them (I trust AI for German to English, but not the other way around). Finally, I ask ChatGPT to present the original and translated text in a three-column table with the English translation, a semicolon, and the German version. Why a semicolon? Because later I can download everything as an Anki deck, so I can learn the phrases or sentences and I use semicolons as a separation sign. I also prepare an mp3 file but only with the language I don’t know, in my case, German. By the way, this is another downside of bilingual videos and books. I like having bilingual text but not in audio form. I prefer to listen only to the language I want to learn because otherwise, I feel it disturbs my learning process. I’m just trying to figure out my own way of learning this language and others in the future. I need to work a lot on learning words by association since I’m not that good at using this method, and obviously, it’s a very slow process for me. By the way, I love your videos.

Taking private lessons for 6 months and then having one conversation at the end is not what most people would consider to be a "speaker" of the language. Did you do an actual exam? Could you translate a film? Could you understand and summarize newspapers? etc. thats more the expectation of being a speaker.

Hi Mikel, How many times would you listen to your Language Island sentences. For example, suppose you take a topic like "My Work", how many sentences would you have and finally, do you use the same sentences for all your languages. sorry one more question, Which app do you use to record your sentences. Is your method better than Glossika. It already has over 6000 sentences?

How do you get the “example sentences”? I saw your videos where you show the spreadsheets but I can’t find anything like that online for Romanian, at least not in the quantity of 10,000 words. Do you have a resource for these or do you painstakingly write them out yourself?
