Jah Will Thank you very much. But it is just sprezzatura - with enough practice, even the most difficult of tasks can appear easy. It’s why I’m doing this series, and it’s why I’m so passionate about teaching. It’s not just about me. I’ve seen many people learn to sing step-by-step, go on to have successful careers in Music, and no one would ever guess the hard work and countless hours put into developing their instruments. It’s certainly not easy for everyone, but it’s absolutely possible. 🙌🏽

I just have to say this testimony, I can relate to 100 percent because it’s exactly what I am went through and kind of still going through right now. I ask myself the exact thing! “Why do I think i can do this”? I have been told to be a counselor so many times. Im in my late 20s and decided to follow what I believe God told me so I do not have regrets later in life. This video came at a perfect time. Thank you and God Bless you for sharing!

I'm LOVING this new series. The tips you give out are great, but I love the stories even more. As a fellow nerd who is trying to get good at something unnatural to him -- learning persuasion and marketing, in my case -- among people with more "talent" and experience, you're stories are SO relatable and they give me so much encouragement and hope. Thank you for sharing and I hope to see more of them in the future.

Love it. Great content. I had the same experience in jazz ensemble playing with big band. I was very embarrassed and wanted to quit, another guitarist pulled me aside after the class and we hung out, and he taught me the songs so I wasn't an embarrassment to the class anymore. Loved it. Keep the videos coming!

Your story is great and so relatable. I’ve always loved music and, one day, I decided to no longer be a passive listener : I wanted to sing ! I grew up with my musical mentors (MJ, Mariah Carey, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston,...), listening to their songs on a regular and daily basis, and I wanted to find my own voice. So I decided to take courses. I felt enthusiastic at first. It was like that until I listen to the other persons who were more experienced than me ; I felt my enthusiasm dwindled and a part of me wanted to give up. But another part of me desires to be able to sing so much that I didn’t give up and decided to improve my singing technique by watching videos of vocal coaches on KZitem. That is how I find about you and decided to take your lessons. I like them very much ! Perseverance is the key.

Thanks for this, Eric. I tend to get discouraged about my own singing because I have gotten the idea in my head that since I am never picked to do a solo in church I must not be any good. You make me realize that what really matters is that I am being the best at it that I can and I have the ability to keep improving my technique for my own satisfaction, and it does not matter what others think.

Same for drawing and painting even! It's a full-body thing. Pretty much everything but blinking involves the whole apparatus of your body. Try to write something on paper with your passive hand behind your back. Or hammer a nail while keeping your legs perfectly in place.

Eric, when I first discovered your KZitem channel and started working with your exercises, I thought you were just a voice teacher. You are a role model. I am currently a high school senior, and I feel I am right now where you used to be when you were my age. I have embarassed myself too on several occasions, and have felt the same sense of defeat you've outlined here. But I will continue too. And I will be a good singer one day. Heck, maybe even a great one.

Hi Eric, First of all, I want to thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I want to make music for a long time, but never dared to. Not only you but also some of my idols have shown me that the way to become a good musician is to fight! I had vocal training with a technique that focused on mixed voice as well. It definitely helped me with avoiding cracking and smoothing out my passagio, but my voice was very quiet. I couldn't actually belt above an F#4 consistently without cracking. It was discouraging because my timbre definitely has a lyric tenor quality to it, but my range was limited if I tried to sing with power behind my voice. It wasn't up until a few years ago that I started developing my belt voice. Now I can reliably sing up to a C/Db5 full out and sometimes higher if it's a really good day.

Thank you so much for sharing this Eric. I really needed to hear this and it is so inspiring to hear your story and your dream, and that with hard work and practise you can improve! I also thought good singers were just naturally born that way, and that if the first sound out of your mouth didn't sound like them, you got unlucky and you couldn't sing. It sounds silly to say this now but I genuinely believed that until this year! I'm so excited to hear that you can learn and get better! Thank you!

Also, I teach students one-on-one EVERY DAY (in person and Skype), I’ve been traveling the U.S. teaching workshops year round, AAAAAAND I have a home study course with over 7k students (my team and I evaluate vocal clips and offer feedback). So I haven’t gone anywhere. I’ve just been helping people via various other mediums. 🙂

I really felt for you when you said you felt like “Why did I think I could do this?” I’ve felt that way so many times, and it has really prevented me from putting myself out there, and pursuing singing more seriously. I have a more practical question for you, though: My voice, even my speaking voice, is pretty high, and when I hear a recording of myself, it sounds very juvenile. What can I do to give my voice more depth and resonance? Thanks! :-)
@ericarceneaux
6 жыл бұрын
cyantulip I can’t give my best answer without hearing you (every person is different), but generally a “juvenile” voice results from a lack of body connection. Breathing properly is only step 1; step 2 is learning how to properly engage the muscles of your torso to energize that breath as fuel for a richer and more resonant tone. The information in my Vocal Workout series (especially part 3 in your case) should help a lot 🙂 kzitem.info/news/bejne/s4OpuKNsooRmq4Y

Hey 😊. This may be a stupid question but you got me thinking about it when you were talking about breathing. I’ve been singing pretty much all my life with family and in church. Eric I would just like to know what does it take for someone with a bass baritone voice to sing clear head notes. Not falsetto. I have a powerful upper register. But some have told me that it's falsetto. This has me confused for years. I think it's boring to be boxed in to be a bass singer when you have a head voice like let's just say a true tenor. Thanks in advance man :) . It's really been frustrating
