Effective, simple. I've never been a fan of instructors who DEMAND that you rerack the entire slide after a reload. It adds a lot of movement, complexity, and displaces the gun in space. The slide release is there for a reason and it's no different than if you just fired a round. Trust your gun.
@BrandensOutdoorChannel

Slide Lock per the Glock manual but yes you can use it.
@BuceGar
2 жыл бұрын
@@BrandensOutdoorChannel You are correct, it is technically called a slide lock. I've heard the reason you should fully rack the slide after reload is to get full recoil spring compression, but I've never had a problem using the slide lock at my requalifications. Some guns, including my current Gen 5 Glock 17, actually release the slide if you slam the magazine home too hard, and you're not going to rerack the slide if it looks like the slide is seated properly, unless you want to lose a live round for no reason.

I recently purchased a full-size Beretta APX, and like you, I also have small/medium hands. Just for shits and giggles, I recently swapped the mag release from the default left side of the frame over to the right side and found that I was able to manipulate the mag release on the right side of the frame far easier than using the default position. I can fully depress the mag release without shifting my grip on the frame and saves me the time involved in re-positioning to my preferred grip. Just a thought.

I like to grab the mag exposing about 2-3" from the top completely clear from fingers. Then I mate/match the back wall of the loaded magazine to the back wall of the magazine well, then slightly roll the front of the ammunition into a straight line for feeding up and locked into position completely inside the magazine well. For me matching these two flat surfaces avoids fumbling and aids in straight alignment.

Totally understand what your saying however, there is nothing saying you have to wait to re-engage the target until fully extended! On close engagements, Do we not train to be able to fire from the hip as soon as the gun clears the holster and continue sending rounds while pressing out? Or from compressed ready, aka- where your hands meet and come together on the gun? Not saying your wrong by any means and if it works for you, rock on! Same time, there is a reason multiple highly trained, respected combat experienced instructors train the "work space" technique. One could maybe argue that yes! There's less distance to press out once reloaded but then further distance from mag holster to insertion and vis versa, if you bring the pistol or rifle in closer, there's less distance for the reload but a further pressing out distance. That all being said, great approach and thinking outside the box.

@lucb.3706

I see your argument. But taking a look at your weapon makes your eyes focus a first Time on a thing really close and focus a second time on a thing far away. That makes you waste time it is physiological, you will lose a part of your accuracy on the next shots. And by leaving the target you only have an approximatif position of the target, you don’t know if its status changes, still a threat or not, you have to make in a short time a new analysis of the situation. No need to take a look at a reloading on a handgun if you are enaugh trained, you can count on your "muscular memory"

Speed reloads are often considered an anomaly for a few reasons, particularly in the context of tactical and professional firearm use: Weapon Transition Efficiency: In many tactical situations, transitioning to a secondary weapon (such as a handgun) is faster and more reliable than performing a speed reload on the primary weapon. This is because drawing a secondary weapon typically takes less time than reloading the primary weapon, which can be crucial in high-pressure situations. Planned Tactical Reloads: Professional operators often use planned or tactical reloads during lulls in combat or when they have cover. This ensures that they have a full magazine ready before re-engaging, reducing the risk of running out of ammunition at a critical moment. Tactical reloads are typically done when there is an opportunity to do so safely, rather than in the middle of a firefight. Ammunition Management: Proper ammunition management and situational awareness are key components of professional training. If an operator finds themselves needing to perform a speed reload after 15 rounds, it may indicate a lapse in these areas. Professionals are trained to avoid running their magazines completely dry in combat situations by performing reloads at appropriate times. Risk and Exposure: Speed reloads can expose the operator to additional risk, as they require focus and fine motor skills that may be impaired under stress. During a speed reload, the operator might have to divert their attention from the threat, making them vulnerable. Training and Proficiency: High-level training emphasizes maintaining control of the weapon and ensuring that every action taken is deliberate and efficient. Speed reloads, while fast, can sometimes lead to dropped magazines or other fumbling errors if not executed perfectly. In summary, speed reloads are considered an anomaly because they are generally less efficient and more risky compared to weapon transitions or planned tactical reloads. They are often a last resort when other, more controlled options are not available.

Something that sounds obvious but sometimes isn’t is looking at exactly where that mag should go, the mag well, until it’s in. The idea being the index finger will go to where your eye is focused. Gonna say it now but I have no experience with real world fire arms but I have a question. Since you don't bring the gun into your "workspace" as much, don't you lose time on your reload cause your hand has to travel farther from belt to pistol? Yeah, you would get your weapon in the fight faster but wouldn't you lose time taking the spare mag further to your pistol compared to bringing your pistol closer and reloading?
@chaosncheckt9356
4 жыл бұрын
Years ago when I was much younger and shot everyday (military), we were taught to do a "slight" bend of the elbow, tilting the pistol (as you did) as you hit the magazine release, your non-firing hand drops to your belt buckle, then quickly traces the belt to your first magazine. Grasp magazine, bring it to the magazine well and insert. At all times you are looking at your pistol and naturally down range for targets. 100% of my training was on the 1911, which carried seven rounds with one being chambered. Taught to double tap targets, it became muscle reflex that after six rounds we were doing a reload. Why not shoot the gun dry? Well, if you do the above, and you are focused down range, if a target suddenly appeared during your reload, you still had a round chambered. This is very old school I'm sure, as that unit moved on to the Glock, but even now I try and have situational awareness and avoid at all times shooting my pistol dry (slide locked back). I think the 1911 in my day could have a failure of the slide locking back after the last round. Bad magazines, wear in the magazine well/chamber, and a number of other things were normally the cause. Still, shooting the 1911 you knew when you hit your target with that .45, they were going down.

For me, on empty, I lock my thumb on the release, and when I seat the mag, the slight upward jolt to the pistol from it seating pushes the gun against my 'locked' thumb at the release, and it's practically instant re-chambering of a new round.

Uspsa and tactical are different but yet a bit similar in general. I was thought from the beginning that as much as possible in a competition, you should never let your pistol go to slide lock and always know how many rounds you have and reload with a round left in the chamber. I compete in the production division, hence limited to 10 rounds in all mags except for the first mag which is 11 rounds. Production is a challenging division in Uspsa but it's a good training process because your pistol is mostly stock and trains you to be efficient with what you have without the aid of red dots, light triggers, mag wells or compensators.
