You could use data packs to make the world limit lower below bedrock without generating world there, but instead, generate the backrooms there. That way you do not have to un-render and render everything and it makes it a little more multiplayer friendly with the people that did not fall through making the mod no longer have to change the time of day, and removing the block transparency because the backrooms generate lower now will allow them to be shader compatible.

Having it be below the world would also allow for more levels of the backrooms to be added if another mod dev (one makes the mod out of passion) wanted to add more, and since one of the methods between backrooms levels is noclipping, it could allow for a just as seamless noclip if the starting room and the destination are stacked.

I have some suggestions: - Rare/occasional lights flickering(that also makes flickering noises) - When Tenhead teleports during chase, it's moving noise will fade away(not cut off completely). Also after teleporting the moving noise won't be emitted until the player sees it or it moves close to them, this is so i guess people wont immediately know where Tenhead is when he relocates. - Do something about unrendered chunks being replaced with void, maybe by having a "fog" or a blur covering them up and having that coverage colored so that it blends into the backrooms

Some suggestions to improve your mod: 1. When a player is teleported into the dimension the entity only has a 50% to spawn during that single session of them being in the backrooms. 2. A fifth biome where all the ceiling lights are off, the entity is also more aggressive in this biome. Also add more room variations. 3. Make the floor a damp carpet to match the description of the OG backrooms including a wet cloth sound when walking on it. 4. Add random outlets and ceiling air vents. Also place random patches of a dirty/moldy texture variation to the walls and ceilings.

I bet Kane Pixels would be impressed if he saw this mod. It's a near perfect recreation of the rooms from the film. Perhaps as you continue to tweak it, you could make a way for players to know if they're in a spot that can noclip them into the Backrooms, like an Overworld terrain chunk looking slightly off from every other around it, or the sound of humbuzz from the Backrooms being heard very quietly in a portion of the world. Other than that, great video and I can't wait to see more!

I'd look into the immersive portals mod to see how they seamlessly tp you and then use that to tp people to the backrooms, the mod is open source what you have now certainly does work, but as you said it's highly abrasive and also only works in singleplayer unless you make EVERYONE fall into the backrooms at the same time, since the game randomly turning night isn't great for the immersion of other players who don't fall in when it comes to the tinhead teleporting, it's very very noticeable to people with literally any kind of stereo sound system, you can hear the entity teleport from behind you to one of your sides it's certainly a cool idea but maybe I'd have it actually navigate to a flank position, possibly at a higher speed, and then start chasing you again so it isn't as jarring of a sound direction change using biomes for the different sections is genuinely so smart I'd have never thought of that overall best mc backrooms vid I've ever seen, but it's still got it's flaws (ultimately really small flaws of course, the mod still works and does what it aims to achieve)

Personally, I would like it so that Tenhead stops chasing after you if you look away from it for long enough, but has a small chance to stop chasing at any point after a certain amount of time. The way it stops chasing the player should be in a way that feels like it was never chasing the player and accuses the player that they’re just hallucinating. this is a pretty good idea! My one issue with this mod is that tenhead doesn't really feel unknown or hidden that much, when you get glimpses of it you see the entire monster instead of just a head or a limb. When your being chased, the chase noises announcing it's prescence kinda remove the feeling that it could appear around every corner. Also (this one isnt particularly gargin's fault) the animations look a little generic

I'd love to see this mod continue development, with more features while keeping this beautiful simplicity. Some ideas: - better hiding of the backrooms, to improve performance and make it so you can't see it in the sky - maybe a more seamless transition out of them, like a reverse-noclip that always spawns above water so you don't die - extension of the rooms on the y-axis, making weird floors, drops, large rooms expanding upward, or weird holes into different biomes - like in the Kane Pixels series, randomly placed props like a table or a dirt block that adds to the out-of-placeness - maybe some more non-Euclidean feel with chunks regenerating as you walk away from them, making backtracking impossible - chances for lights to be blown out or different colors creating dark sections or an out of place colored light - a fade between the ambience sounds of biomes, and maybe more biomes This mod is so cool and has so much potential, I can't wait to see an updated version! Definitely the best backrooms implementation I've seen in Minecraft.

Hey Gargin! Modder here!! For making the seemless transition between backrooms and overworld you could do something similar to Immersive portals if you've seen that mod! It essentially allows the players to create an inward and outward wrapping portal in which the player can see directly through AND step through it. If you were to do something similar, you could make the portal work like a structure and have it spawn every 100-200 blocks! Then once the player stumbles upon said structure they fall through the inward portal to a void somewhere where they can continue falling into and outward portal which leads into the backrooms!

also make sure the tinhead is INCREDIBLY rare, maybe make it so it's chase mechanic can't happen until 10 minutes in and to make sure it doesn't get boring, maybe have the ttesion progressively increase by making it more likely to spawn and more likely to come closer to the player so it gets spotted more and more, maybe by the 8 or 9 minute mark it feels like it's literally everywhere, maybe the mechanic could be that by the 5 minute mark when the player spots it, it will start walking towards the player until the player looks away, in which it will disappear for a minute. then at the 6 minute mark it will disappear for 30 seconds, then at 7 minutes, it will disappear for 15 seconds, and finally at 8 minutes it will start appearing every 5 seconds at random intervals, ramping up the tension so that every where you look it seems like it's coming for you until at around 10 minutes in, the chase mechanic is allowed to kick in

Key words to those that want to play this: Experimental. This mod has many issues, Sometimes you won't be able to load the game, and it may just outright crash. When playing, your game TPS will be super laggy to the point where the game is basically unplayable. Also, if you die in survival mode you're trapped on top of the backrooms. Also, rendering the rooms so that theyre invisible doesn't really work. It takes time to unrender them and you can clearly see them above your head. In my opinion, it also no-clips the player way too frequently, something like once every 30 seconds, this causes the tremendous TPS lag as well, All in all though, the concept and environment created is still good. It's pretty immersive, but it needs serious work if it wants to be actually playable.

Love this! Even before the backrooms became more popularised it was always an incredibly interesting concept for me. However, with this mod I cant help but see a few issues and have some questions. 1. How do you deal with players bringing items into the backrooms? Its not a problem that arises in the 'real life' version of the concept but things such as armour, shields and boats could pose a problem with player immersion as it reduces the threat significantly. (boats may have already been accounted for but theyre very popular in cheesing the entity ai). An idea I have regarding this is stripping the items from the player as they enter, then having a very low chance for rooms to spawn with a chest that contains ender eyes or similar navigation tools. These can serve the purpose of guiding the player to a location that is guarenteed to give them some loot, whether that be the items that were lost upon entry or pulled from a loot table to control what vanilla features are available. 2. A lot of the original backrooms horror stems from the affected person slowly being driven insane by the constant isolation and lonliness. I feel this could be represented better in this mod. Maybe consider adding hallucinations related to the players status? Just as a quick thoughts, the sounds of distant livestock when low on hunger or the giggling of witches when on low hp could be great additions. Another addition could be something similar to what 'from the fog' does. Specifically the random chance you have to see another 'player' running around in a random far off direction. This could serve to unnerve the player but maybe also be used by the tinhead to lure the player into a disadvantageous position asif they are being truely hunted. 3. An idea for the loading screen issue. I have basically zero experience with coding so not sure if this would be possible, but could you create something resembling the immersive portals mod if not just use that flat out? The only issue I can see with doing this is the initial lag as the backrooms dimension is generated which would give the player slight warning before noclipping. All in all though I think that would be a great fix if implementable. Also this would potentially allow the player to noclip into the backrooms from other dimensions, as it stands to my understanding the nether and the end are basically safe areas where noclipping isnt possible. Adding to my previous point about items being an issue, the nether and end can allow the player to gear up before taking the dive and ruining their experience. 4. Just from curiosity, how did you stop hostile mobs from spawning in the backrooms? To my understanding you can set blocks to be non spawnable so if that is the case that'll be my answer, but is there a chance for endermen to be able to teleport in? Such as if they were on a mountain that extends high into the sky as similarly can happen on the nether roof. Also is there protection from spawning entities inside the backrooms such as the wither, snow golem and iron golem as these would mess things up significantly. If you do end up reading this far, thank you for creating something this cool! I'm away from home while typing this but I cant wait to get back to my pc that can actually run MC to any sort of decent standard and give this a try!

A personal fix I'd do here is making the block noise for walking the same as wool, instead of stone/concreate, or possibly even make a custom sound somewhat close to it, the wool noise is a slight bit sharp in my opinion. The noise for walking in this video doesn't really fit the whole decaying carpet part of the backrooms, although I'm sure you've already thought of this, just threw out this in case it is seen. Besides all of that, the mod looks amazing

I'd suggest making the tin head try to hug walls (as in it stays next to walls), that way it doesn't go out in the open as much, reducing the likelihood it will be seen in it's entirety. also make it so he can arch forward to peak around walls and go back. it will try to avoid the players sight range. when trying to watch the player it should try to obscure most of it's body from the player, and once it makes eye contact it quickly retreats back behind the wall the most important thing though would be making sure it is almost always hugging the wall. cause it being in the middle of a hallway, getting seen and then quickly darting away makes it seem not very intelligent

the way the chunks generate so abruptly from the darkness kinda looks like the fluorescent lights are just turning on in the distance as the player approaches

You should replace the stone sounds of the floor with wool instead. Since the backrooms floor is entirely carpet, instead of stone. Also! I know you didn't want to straight up copy the Bacteria from Kane's rendition, but I do feel like Tin Head could have some more intimidating sounds, similar to the Cave Dweller...

i just love how it lags mid transition (even tho its not intended), it looks like you have just escaped the confines of the game and it doesnt know what to do

I think it would be a lot better if you increased the build limit below bedrock with a data pack, and just put the backrooms there. That saves a lot of the workarounds you had. Also adds a couple neat side effects like giving the player the ability escape if they are willing to lose all their items to the void - or you can add a low chance "biome" that just adds a stairway up through the bedrock floor, so they have something to look for. And the other side effect is cave fog and cave sounds, which may or may not be desireable.

Escape the backroom Minecraft edition. I hope you will continue to improve this mod further and add more levels into the mod. It would make one hell of a backroom mod for minecraft

you could try to use Immersive Portals to get a seamless transition between dimensions. Other than this i also know that you can change the loading screen and cut down massively on the time it takes to traverse through dimensions, like with an end portal. Making it teleport you like an end portal whilst changing the load screen with that of the ceiling block suffocation texture, you could try to remove the backrooms from the top of the overworld and place it into a separate dimension, making it even more immersive.

Hey, I have an idea. What if while the player is outside Backrooms, it will exist as an area of, for example, 4*4 chunks, but as soon as the player teleports there, full generation starts?

I've always thought Minecraft needed a solid, high-effort Backrooms mod. Some were good, but were either incomplete or only on older versions. In comes Gargin to save the day once again!

now with respect, this is a good mod FOR SINGLEPLAYER. there are a lot of ways i imagined how it could be optimized and i have yet to learn java. if some talented dev sees this, i’d ask if you could improve this.

@@aracno211 I understand, it's an experimental mod like he mentioned. It's imperfect, but I think it captures the version of the Backrooms I love the most.

Immersive portals solved the whole loading screen thing. Maybe you could find out how they did it and copy their homework? Would also love to see different environments besides the basic office be added, if you plan on updating this.

One thing (not necessarily a directed negative, just fun side effect) that came to mind and I think I noticed after you said the blocks were treated as glass blocks With Respect To light; Is that if a room has no lights but an adjacent room has lights in the outer edge of the room, the room with no lights can be lit in ways that wouldn't be possible without a light in it (like a corner being lit from the other side) Oooor maybe I'm missing a detail, either way I highly doubt a player would notice it, much less care, and is moreso a curiousity so far as I care.

Hey garg you should make more levels and multiplayer friendly (i know it probably really hard to do this) this would make the mod immersive and even cooler to explore, you could add l a room that randomly generates that has a stair case down into level 1 then expand on the idea or smth. Also you should add items sparsely spawned arround would be cool. Nice video btw.

I think you should expand on this mod like add new biomes or have levels ( that act like dimensions ) also this idea ant new but you made it a beautiful dreadful creepy atmosphere ( this mod also reminds me about the corners you should check it out )

I love this Mod very much and cant wait to see more added!! Some things I recomment: Making the thing faster, updating pathfinding More terrain generation (Stairs, weird things, enclosed rooms, stains, worn out wallpaper.) Different versions of the backrooms (Different wallpaper, like blandness or different patterns) Dark rooms, maybe red rooms?

To be honest, the loading screen problem is very much a non-issue, many other mods and Minecraft itself can allow instant transportation across dimensions with barely any noticeable loading, and players aren't going to be that affected by a random loading screen anyways if the 'noclipping' is a surprise. With that in mind, making it another dimension would probably solve all of your issues of transparency and generation, as well as making it immersive in a multi-player experience (which I'm surprised was not commented on). Other than that I've got some minor nit-picks about the sound design and mob-behavior, though I don't feel to need to list them as it's quite easily changeable.
