Thank you so much for this. I’m 70 lbs down which is about halfway to where I want to be and I’ve been struggling today. I had decided not to go on my walk after work but when I heard you say to meet yourself where you are today and have compassion for yourself, I changed my mind and went on my walk. I didn’t walk as far or as long as usual and I didn’t really try but I did it and I’m so proud.

Hi Carla! Great points! I've done IF for over a year. I concentrate on waiting 3-4 hours before eating again. I don't snack anymore, and I was such a huge snacker I often didn't eat proper meals. In the 90s, I had perfectionism with Weight Watchers. I lost the weight but could never maintain it. Now I try to take th🎉e day as it comes, and if I mess up I forgive myself and begin again the next day. ❤ 🥪 🎂 🍸

I so relate to all of this!! I’ve seen myself saving out calories for snacks and “fun” food to the point I was still just practicing feeding my tongue and that’s it which always leads to uncontrolled eating. I also see how sleep affects my focus and strength to make choices that move me towards my goals, and that all or nothing- that’s a cycle I’m still working to break. Love how you articulate all this and such a wonderful reminder for me🤘🏻

Wow, all three of these resonated with me. I’m awful about being consistent with my sleep and this has probably made everything so much harder. I also have the mindset of if I messed up, I’ll just start again tomorrow rather than starting again the next meal. I didn’t connect it with perfectionism but it totally is. Thank you for sharing these.

I really relate to the perfectionism mindset. It’s something I’ve struggled with probably for most of my life. I’m now making a concerted effort to lean into being more compassionate towards myself rather than having very black or white thinking. Thanks for the insights in this video, it’s great to have a few more tools in your weight loss toolbox to make the journey that bit easier. ❤❤❤

Thank you so much for this. I really struggle with perfectionism and intolerance of “the in between” to the point where I’ve banned myself from weighing myself until my non scale victories make it clear I’ll see a big difference. I’m having total motivation meltdown this morning for no specific reason and thought “I need to watch some Carla” 😂 and realised I’m carrying a sleep debt from last weekend and I’m still wrecked, which is probably the reason coz I haven’t actually gone off my plan or anything. So I went for my run, didn’t bother timing myself and just did it very very gently and planned how I’m going to make up my sleep debt. Thank you for your content!

Have you been peeping in my windows??!!!😂😂😂 Wow Carla, this weeks video is so relatable! My snack of choice is sour cream pretzels! I’m sitting at almost 120lbs down but my main issue at the moment is that I can’t seem to just have one day off of plan ie my dress up night or a celebration meal, as I’ll then think “oh I haven’t had ……… in ages or ……… “ the list is endless and I end up sampling old favourites for several days until I’ve had enough of eating rubbish and then I’m “good” for weeks or even months until the next time. This behaviour is so unhelpful, unhealthy and mentally draining as it then takes time to loose the excess pounds before I can actually loose any actual new weight. Life has been incredibly challenging lately and I hate feeling so out of control. Any help or advice would be gratefully received! Have a great week, Laura 🌸🌸🌸

You are so spot on! I think it’s clear to see the link especially between being overweight/obese in relation to MH issues as insomnia often plays a part. I think people who are snackers especially if they have been all their life will find weight loss harder. Our bodies aren’t designed to be grazing and digesting food all day, and people who snack generally seem to have a strong aversion to feeling hunger, in fact I think a lot of people are scared of feeling the slight discomfort that comes from hunger and if you are very overweight this might be an alien feeling entirely but that’s something you have to get used to on a calorie deficit especially if you are coming from a long time of gorging on whatever you want all day! I am almost never a snacker so I can’t really relate but I bet if you did a video on snacking and tips how you managed to do this and stay within your decficit to lose weight many people would find this super useful 😊❤

28 years of rotating shift work, so challenging to keep my sleep a priority. The amount of goodies that show up at work is an issue but I’ve seemed to get a handle on it first the time being. As I’m getting older weight loss is a whole new struggle but your videos are a great inspiration!

The perfectionist attitude has been so hard for me. An all or nothing mindset really is my biggest challenge. If I'm not 1000% right, then I'm 180 degrees the other way. I'm working on finding balance and forgiving myself when I am not "perfect". Great video, as always! ❤

I've making it hard on myself by not eating enough protein. I recently decided to become a pescatarian/vegetarian. I'm eating eggs and beans but I don't think I've been eating enough. So I have beautifully "healthy lunches but then I'm ravenous by the time I get home - which leads to massive amounts of snacking. Also, I'm been relying on eating too much bread.
@ames522

These things are also so interconnected! It's hard to assess your eating habits and think about changing the size or timing of your meals if you're overly tired. And if you are eating in a way that isn't satiating, low blood sugar/foggy brain can make it harder to meet yourself with compassion rather than perfectionism.

I’m 6 nearly 7 weeks into working out, I do body exercises 4 days a week, weights one day a week (hate them.) And walk/jog 6 days a week, try to get 10k. Eating nothing but protein. But the last few weeks the hunger and cravings are coming back. Should I eat more protein? My goal is 1500-1600 calories a day. I’m usually under it. And lost 10 to 12 lbs so far. What can I do to stop the cravings? I’m worried I eat more protein and it works but it might only last a week weeks before my appetite comes back? Some times I can control it other times I struggle. What can I do? Last week I only lost 1 lbs, and before that I was losing 3lbs plus weekly. I really want to continue the weight loss, and not fail! Also forgot to add that doing body exercises the past 2 weeks is tiring me quicker and I’m getting swore doing not even half what I use to. I’m confused why I haven’t build muscle and stamina and it doesn’t feels easier to do 100 reps? What is going on?

Do you get enough healthy fats? Sardines are super high in healthy omega 3 and protein . Put horseradish or spicy mustard on them and you won’t taste any fishiness. I keep them in the refrigerator for when I’m over hungry and they make my energy great and my stomach feels so nice not being hungry.

Not sure if this helps, but I'll tell you what I've learned. 1) You will probably hit some points in your journey where the scale doesn't budge. Try not to get discouraged - this is normal. Especially if you have the goal of adding muscle or strength. Even slow weight loss is still weight loss. 1 pound a week or even 1 pound a month will still eventually get you closer to your goal. A watched pot never boils, as they say. 2) You will probably feel a bit tired as you increase your exercise. Body weight exercises are great for beginners but consider adding some weight and decreasing your repetitions. You could use dumbbells or really any type of weight you have access to (gallon jugs, soup cans, heavy text books, etc.). Reducing your reps and increasing the load will be more time efficient and improve your results. This also means you don't have to do it every day. The body needs time to repair exercise induced damage so don't feel guilty for taking some rest. 3) Increasing strength and muscle will take more time than just reducing your body weight. It is totally worth it. It means your body is getting better at burning the food you take in because building and maintaining muscle requires a lot of energy. 4) If you are finding that you are hungry all the time, consider adding some more food to your diet. It might seem counterintuitive but it's better to address your hunger sooner than later. Many people make the mistake of reducing their calories to the point where they hate the process and give up. Your work will continue to pay off and you have time to find a system that works for you. Hope this helps.

Currently still omw to lose weight (managed so far 52kg! ;w;/) and I'm dealing with binge eating. What made it harder for me on this journey were days i binged and made myself restrict after, which lead to just more binging. So making regular meals was my biggest help to control this better ;o; Another thing is buying big packages of sweets. I can't resist them, i know that myself and still sometimes i buy bigger packages bcs i want sth different sometimes from my usual treats. Made me often eat the whole package and then either skip a meal or just overeat in general 😭 Another thing i still don't have in check yet are my sleep and my protein intake. I don't like a lot of foods that give protein (and despite loving beans, my body can't handle them well 😭) so that's something i wanna improve on! Same as making movement more present in my daily life 😭🙏🏽
