I've always struggled with periods since i was 10 but recently my mum told me to go to the doctors about them. I'm now getting tested for PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and it's looking more towards a diagnosis! Honestly no one's periods are the same so it's really hard to tell if what you experience is normal or not. I always want to share with my friends but it's just so awkward (wearing massive pads, having blood clots, depression). Periods are defo not talked about enough, i'm absolutely in love with this video giving an open free space to talk about this.

The way that I describe depression is I call it "The bully in my mind." In therapy, my therapist got me to write a letter to the bully and to also describe the bully/bullies - I.e what they look like, what they sound like, etc, etc. This has really, really helped me. The type of letter I chose to do to my bully is a letter of empathy and sympathy: "Dear bully in my mind, I know that you're hurting and you're projecting that hurt onto me, let me help you and be there for you." Calling it the bully in my mind helps me to differentiate between what depression is telling me and what I actually want for myself.

The PMDD begins in the luteal phase 1.5-2 weeks before their period. When the period begins, women with PMDD actually feel better on day 1 or 2. That is what truly puts things into perspective and differentiates PMS with PMDD. In extremely severe cases the symptoms last for 2 weeks, then there is the period discomforts (which actually feel a ton better than the luteal phase) and then like 1 week of feeling normal.

Reese! Thank you so much for sharing. I got diagnosed with a different stomach syndrome last year that rocked my world and I feel like I am only now beginning to get through my anger phase and now am in my acceptance and coping phase. I often feel so guilty for my flare ups or having to rest but knowing other young people have grandma backs makes it a little bit better hahaha

This was so helpful! I have chronic migraines and every time I had my period they would almost kill me. I ended up switching to a continuous birth control (you only get your period 4 times a year) and I’ve almost stopped having migraines all together 🥲🤍 My periods are way shorter and extremely light now. I encourage everyone to talk with their doctor cause I thought that my extreme pain and inability to get out of bed was normal until I spoke with her about my experiences. Wishing everyone the best luck on their journey 💖 thank you for speaking on this topic!!

It's related to inflammation. My wife has suffered with pmdd for 14 years and I tirelessly researched everything. I started thinking about going the holistic route and was referred to Dr Achina Stein. She has a video called "what if it's not depression" on KZitem and after I watched it, everything started to make sense. The majority of autoimmune and depression issues are related to our gut health, trauma and serious illness. My wife has returned to her self for the last 2 months after being bedridden for the previous 9 months, and I am so thankful I found this information.

I just want to say, thank you so much for being a voice for PMDD. This may sound weird, but that was a big reason I subscribed to you (other than just being a fan of your content 🙂), because it was so refreshing to find someone who could relate to what I was feeling. PMDD can be really isolating sometimes. I would also be really interested in seeing a video talking about the different foods to eat at the different stages of our period! Thank you for a great video! ♥️

I started my period on my 15th birthday and later was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16. I'm 22 now and I've learned to manage my symptoms pretty well with medication. I can tell now my symptoms are starting to get a little worse again after being on the same dose for a little bit. Don't ever let someone tell you your pain is nothing because before I was put on the pill my cramps were so bad that I couldn't even sit up and it felt like someone was stabbing me in the stomach. I later learned that those were cysts on my ovaries rupturing while I was on my period. Regardless of how many times I've had my period over the years it's always a different experience every time.

Hey so disclaimer, I am a trans masc individual and also not a doctor, but I’ve been taking continuous birth control since I was like 12, even before I was out as trans bc my periods were so horrible on my mental health. My mom and my primary care doc decided that it would be okay for me to just take birth control non stop and it works so great for me and stops the mental health symptoms (which included some stuff you described plus dysphoria stuff) and I thought maybe you could talk to your primary care doc about it? All mine does is prescribe 4 months of pills for a three month time frame so no one week of sugar pills, totally up to you but definitely could be an option. I really love your channel and how open you are and I really am glad I found your channel. You’re my motivation companion for cleaning and homework right now!

This video has literally helped me with what I’ve been feeling the past year with my period, I think I might PMDD myself! My hormones, especially the week before my period are all over the place… I have the worst mood swings, I feel really negative about myself and overall just don’t feel like me! So thank you so much for doing this video, it’s definitely helped me recognise that I’m not alone with what I’m experiencing! ❤️ Update: I went to my family doctor and spoke about how I’ve been feeling with my periods/PMS, and before I could continue he stopped me and said I have PMDD! Thank you again so much beautiful! You’ve really helped me out so much, now I understand what I’m going through and I’m not alone! 💪🏻

i think the best advice i can give is to try out different medications to see how you react to it. i’ve tried different birth controls and anti-depressants and had different reactions to all of them so it’s very dependent on each individual!

Have you tried looking into vitex also known as Agnus castus? I was taking it before but stopped but I think I’m gonna start again and try to be consistent. Definitely helped with physical symptoms but I need to see long term if it helps with the mental because that’s the worst for me. I would rather have physical pain then the anxiety and depression I go through before my cycle it’s debilitating and intense
