@JohnDoe-dw3hj that proves you don't even understand the principle being stated. Who's talking about strictness and love in life? We're talking about in team sports. Just no. Marshall is and will always be right (excluding the obvious exaggerations for comedy)

@@Nina-sm1go Like that makes it any better? Why treat little kids like this? Why can't we let them be happy before showing them how bad the world is? And all this for what? To win a game of sports? It's a kindergarten league - if you care that much about your kid winning you have a serious problem 😂 for the "life lesson" part of it I'm torn - part of me thinks you should work your ass off but most of life isn't a meritocracy, you can spend your childhood studying/working hard and get dicked over by stuff completely out of your control. The pawn and the king go into the same box at the end of the game so have as much fun as you can 🤷♂️

Holyy I keep seeing this faulty argumentation. Point 1: this is the school team, so this is EXACTLY the situation to be competitive. Point 2: this age range is when you build proper personality building skills in kids. Point 3: did you just say most of life is not a meritocracy?! Are you living in delulu land? Just cause shit happens doesn't mean the world doesn't operate on merit/hierarchies.

The only exaggeration from Marshall was throwing the ball at them. Which sure was more for comedy. But letting this pass because the kids are young is just psychotic. IF THEY ARE BEING TAUGHT NOW AT THIS AGE TO NOT COUNT/WIN/BE COMPETITIVE. Theyre only gonna be less equipped to deal with it as they age. Whether thats middle school/high school/life.

If they’re taught that everything is a competition and losing once makes them worthless they’ll be less equipped to deal with failure as they age.

@dodiswatchbobobo What kinda silly strawman is that? Who said everything is a competition? We're talking about team sports, if this isnt the right place to teach competitiveness, then WHAT WOULD BE? Yall are on some next BS lol. And also, that's lazy teaching/raising. If they lose, you show them that it's a part of life and they suck it up. You don't give participation trophies. You show them, if they want it. They need to grow and get better. That's literally the backbone of training and excellence.
@Nina-sm1go

@dodiswatchbobobo That is a dishonest representation of what my point was. And you know it's dishonest. Basketball is competition. Everything else doesn't have to be, nor did I say it was. And again, no one is stating that "losing once makes them worthless". So at least characterize the points correctly if you're gonna try to refute it

@@jacobpresta5808 You can be firm without being cruel. Teaching competition is not the same thing as blasting eardrums at the first sign of weakness. You don’t need to tell your kid that their failure to win a local children’s league game reflects badly on you, their teacher, and the game of basketball, and you don’t need to do it at full volume. You can calmly take your kid’s participation trophy away, and tell them they’ll get it back when they either win a game, or beat you in a pickup match. Then when they finally win, you give them back their participation award, and take their earned trophy, and make THAT the prize for beating you. No drill sergeant tactics needed. No childish playground teasing “wehwehweh crybaby let’s give you a point for trying and negative a million for whining” There’s a difference between tough love and withholding love.

@dodiswatchbobobo holyyyy yall are soft. Discipline is built off of discomfort. You know that right? And what? If a kid knows there is a participation trophy They will want that. They will see their friends get it. And now there's inner conflict on why the other kids have it and I don't. Which can build foundations for rebelliousness and disobedience on "the parents way" because others "SEEM" fine superficially. You clearly don't know how to raise kids and it showssss. There is only one answer here. NO PARTICIPATION TROPHIES. sint encourage in schools, don't encourage it in camps. Don't encourage it as parents. Simple.

Look man, yay for ambition and all that crap, but four year olds literally don’t even have fully developed motor skills yet. It’s okay to play for fun sometimes, and if the parents really want their kids to learn competitiveness, they’ll do what Marshall’s dad did instead of leaving it to the school.

Uhh noo, that's how you create weakness. This is not playing for fun. It's literally a school team. Yeah it's kindergarten. But if you understood anything about psychology. This is not about the motor skills to play basketball. This is about building discipline. Which needs to be taught from that age up.

@dodiswatchbobobo I'm not sure where you're getting your idea of children. Kids are some of the most perceptive and creative minds. They're natural critical thinkers. They're taking in everything and anything around them and process it. And psychologist studies have shown us that what they absorb in these young ages molds their personalities greatly in the long run. Even if they don't "understand" what they're learning.

I would never let Lily teach my kids. I know the comedic bit, but in the overall lesson, Marshall was right. Also, babying kids only delays their learning. Dumbass parents homeschooling kids and letting them “do it on their time” or going after teachers for disciplining their perfect babies and not letting them do whatever they want (school is for collective interest, not to cater to the individual) is the reason we have so many kids with learning deficits now.
